5 Things I wish I knew before setting up the blog

I set up this blog in 2012 and it has been a rollercoaster journey. Blogging has led me to all sorts of opportunities and I am thankful to have discovered this amazing platform. However, if I could go back in time, there are some things I wish I knew before I started blogging. Knowing these things would have made my blogging journey a lot more straightforward and not as topsy-turvy as it has been.

5 Things I wish I knew before setting up the blog

Here are the five things I wish I knew before setting up Fashion and Style Police –

Use SEO

I learnt Search Engine Optimisation- SEO many years after I set up the blog. In the early days, I wrote whatever I felt like writing with little or no regard for search engine search. I didn’t even know anything about SEO in 2012. If I could go back in time, I would learn all about SEO and use the knowledge in every blog post.

Make use of internal links

I would make use of internal links from day 2. Using internal links regularly is a great way to direct search engines and your readers to other blog posts on your site. It is a great way to revive old content. I wish I knew this back in 2012.

Focus on the social media platforms that works

It makes sense to have an online presence on as many social media platforms as possible because you never know. However, if I could go back in time, I would focus my energy on the social media platform that actually drives traffic to my blog and use the other platforms differently. Currently, Pinterest is the platform that drives the most traffic to my blog. Other social media platforms work more as a standalone for me and hardly bring in a good amount of regular traffic.

Research keywords and topics

Researching keywords and topics helps you share the knowledge your blog readers really need. This is one thing I wish I did more of 7 years ago.

Practise makes perfect

The more you write, the better you become. Practice makes anything a lot better. I wish I had more time to write everyday in the early days of blogging.

These are the top five things I wish I knew and did in the early days of blogging. We learn everyday and I have learnt loads in the last few years.

What do you wish you knew more of in the first year of blogging or before setting up your blog? Do you have any blogging tips to share? What do you think of these 5 Things I wish I knew before setting up the blog?

Earn money from your blog & be your own boss

I have been blogging for almost 7 years now and it has been a learning journey for me. My inbox is usually filled up with emails from new bloggers asking blogging related questions. Which is why I have decided to go down the blog coach route. That way I can help more bloggers grow their blogs and they can start to earn a good income from their work. There is nothing like being your own boss. It is an amazing feeling. Especially when you love what you do, and you are good at it.

Blogging is the best career path for me. It is one of the best things I ever did, and I am forever grateful to the internet for giving me the power to work from anywhere and make money doing what I love.

Earn money from your blog & be your own boss

The blog coach service I offer is a side gig alongside my blog (which is my main job). Many wonder how bloggers are able to make enough money to blog full time with no other “out of the house” jobs. Well, I can open your eyes to how this can be done because I do it and I have done so for over 5 years now.

After giving birth to my twins, I didn’t go back to my customer service job. It was a soul-destroying job and I am glad I had a good enough blog to start making some money from. If not, I would have gone back to that job or something similar and I won’t feel as happy and as fulfilled as I feel now. That empty feeling, I used to get when going to work every day is no longer there. I feel in control and ready to take on the world every time I start working and I love it.

I enjoy offering my blog coaching service. There is a lot to take in when it comes to blogging and social media, and I feel this kind of service is what every new blogger needs. I would have jumped at the chance of an experienced blogger coaching me in my early days of blogging. That would have made my journey a lot easier. I won’t have made the many mistakes I made and my climb to the spot where I am at would have been quicker and stress-free.
