Fighting Hay Fever With A Dehumidifier

*Affiliate link.

I have had Hay Fever every summer for the last 3 years. If you have been reading Fashion and Style Policer for some years, you would know all about my summer health issues. I am still not completely sure what triggers my allergy but I have prescribed medicine I now take for it, which has been helpful. The over the counter hay fever medicines do nothing for me. My Hay Fever can get really intense, so I had to get more effective medication for it.

I start to take my medication just before summer so it works better. I did that this year and the first few weeks were blissful. But these past few days have been very hard. My Hay Fever is really messing with my sinuses and has left me feeling very poorly.

I have had many articles and tried many different ways to relieve these symptoms but not really had much luck. It has been so bad that it has started to affect my sleep which sucks. I am proper grumpy when I don’t get enough sleep, so these past few days, I have had the zombie feeling. Which is why I ordered a Dehumidifier. I read somewhere that Dehumidifiers can relieve Hay Fever symptoms. So I quickly placed an order for the DIMPLEX Forte Dehumidifier. I have used it for some days now and I can say it has relieved my Hay Fever. I sleep a lot better with this Dehumidifier on. It is really getting rid of unwanted moisture in my home, and I am thankful a product like this exist. It is great to be able to keep my home at a comfortable humidity level.

This Dehumidifier reduces moisture content in the air. It is movable with wheels and light enough to carry or wheel from room to room. I have had it in various rooms in our house already, and it is really working hard to get rid of unwanted moisture in our home. It is great for anyone that suffers from airborne allergies such as asthma and hay fever. Also, minimising the moisture content in the house prevents excessive humidity in the air which can prevent damp forming.

Spring Decorating Ideas

*Collaborative post.

Spring is here and it is time to start thinking of spring decorating ideas to incorporate into our home. It feels good to actually have a spring weather this year. This time last year, the weather was so warm, it didn’t feel like spring at all. It felt like we pretty much skipped spring and went straight to summer. So this weather is good. The only thing I don’t like about this time of the year is Hay Fever. It’s been hard for me, and I have started struggling already. I do have my prescription medicines I take for my Hay Fever and they help. I just need to remember to take them first thing in the morning to get me through the day.

Hay Fever aside, this weather is good. It has got me thinking of new ways to decorate our home. I have been busy on Pinterest looking at various ways of adding some spring into our living spaces and I am feeling really inspired. Spring is all about being bold and vibrant, and channeling that vibrant and bright colours into my home is the goal this season.

Here are 2 spring decorating ideas for you –

Adding some spring flowers or indoor plants

Flowers have the power to change the look of a room instantly. They are a cheaper of beautifying a room, which is why they are so popular. I like having flowers at home, especially in the spring/summer months. Flowers make the home look more colourful and in tune with the season. If you are after some spring decoration ideas, and you are short on budget or space to play around with, try changing the flower arrangement in your home. Adding some fresh flowers will instantly wake up any room.

If indoor plants are more of your thing, then go for them! Finding the best spot to place your plants can be tricky but once you do, half the job is done.

Mix and match pattens and make the most of your home

Mixing and matching various patterns is another way to incorporate spring into your home. Having a combination of different patterns is important in having the spring feel in your home. All you need to remember with this tip is to ensure the colour palette remains the same tonally. So you can keep the same level of brightness or softness, so the look is balanced, with nothing standing out.

This is a great tip for those who are short of space and want to switch things up with their interior decor. We are slowly outgrowing our town house, and if I had my way, we would move into a bigger house, in the same location. If I could wish a bigger house on the same plot, I would because I love the area we live in and I hate moving. The whole idea of moving house scares me. I know there are many home moving companies available now that can take the stress out of moving, which is great to know they are available for when we do need them. A very good moving company, I have recently come across is Matco – Calgary long distance movers.  So I know there are loads of options available everywhere and for every budget.

Like most things, when it comes to interior decor, the most important thing is what works for your and your home. Don’t get plants just because it is a trend, if you can’t take care of them. Decorating your home with bright and vibrant colours would do you no good if you don’t like colours like that. It is good to know what trends are in vogue so you can pick and choose which you like. That way you create a living space that works for you and yours.

How to Treat Hay Fever

Hay Fever Sucks! This was the last tweet I sent last night while battling to get some sleep. I was sneezing non stop for minutes, and my throat itched like hell, driving me crazy. Which kept me up for hours. I still can’t remember how I managed to finally sleep off.

Hay Fever is still new to me. I started having the symptoms for the first time 2 summers ago, and it has been hell ever since!  On most spring/summer days, I dread it when it gets really warm because I know I usually have a Hay Fever crisis and it is painfully uncomfortable. I am allergic to the Grass Pollen, which is the same with many other sufferers.

For those who have never suffered from Hay Fever, this annoying disease, medically known as Allergic rhinitis,  is a type of inflammation in the nose which occurs when the immune system overreacts to allergens in the air. Signs and symptoms usually include a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, red, itchy, and watery eyes, and swelling around the eyes.

Now I don’t understand why my immune system is suddenly overreacting to allergens in the air, but that is what is pretty happening and it sucks. I managed to get my GP (Doctor) to send my Hay Fever prescription to my local pharmacy so I could pick up my medication. The over counter Hay Fever medicine does not work for me, so I had to get on a particular prescription drug last year. And I take them every summer  The drugs help but not as much. I still have to deal with the symptoms on some days where the pollen count is at its highest.

Apart from my Hay Fever prescription drug, I also try some home remedies to help keep me sane.

How to treat Hay Fever yourself
  1. Put on your sunglasses when you are out and about. This help protects the eyes from pollen.
  2. Apply Petroleum Jelly around your nostrils to trap pollen.
  3. Stay indoors as much as possible.
  4. Take your medicine first thing in the morning.
  5. Change your clothes and take a shower once you get home.

The Met Office categorises these Hay Fever phases as:

  1. Tree pollen – late March to mid-May.
  2. Grass pollen – mid-May to July.
  3. Weed pollen – end of June to September
