Haircare Secrets of the Stars

I got this amazing book – How to be adorned; A girl’s guide to Hollywood glamour by Caroline Cox. The amazing book is about all things beauty and I was reading a chapter about haircare secrets of the stars the other day. I found the chapter really interesting. It was fun to dig into all the beauty tips of the stars like a fly on the wall. Here are some of my favourite hair care tips from the book  –

Constance Bennett

Constance Bennett was an American stage, film, radio, and television actress. This beauty washed her hair every 2 weeks (like I do) with soap and eggs! After washing her hair with soap, she would rub in whites of 2 eggs into her hair and rinse it all off with hot water, then warm water and finally cold water.

Irene Dunne

Irene Dunne was an American actress and singer. Her haircare secret was rubbing in hot oil into her hair 3 three hours before washing, followed by a vinegar rinse. She washed her hair once every 3 weeks.

Eva Longoria

The beautiful Eva Longoria touches her roots with hairspray and eyeshadow the same shade as her hair dye to blend in. I think this tip is one to remember. I love her hair.

Madonna

Madonna loves showing off her roots. She intentionally lets them show to create an edgy look undone look and it works great for her.

Jerry Hall

Jerry Hall washes her hair once a week and doesn’t use a blow-dry. She allows her hair air dry and uses French mink oil on the ends of her hair.

Jennifer Lopez

The beautiful Jennifer Lopez aka JLO rinses her hair with mineral water to flatten the cuticles and help the hair stay shiny. No wonder her hair is always looking so good.

Do you have a tried and tested hair care tip to share?

The Style Icon: Madonna

The crazy but cool Madonna is the Style Icon for the week. This 57-year-old entertainer has been slaying since the eighties and she is still doing her style thing in 2015.

In the fashion world, Madonna is known for her love of black, daring custom-made stage costumes, and being a trendsetter. She stands out from the rest and she owns every look she wears.

The Queen of Pop’s chameleon sense of style keeps the fashion and style world on its toes, you can never know for sure what her next look would be, she is flamboyant and a risk taker. I guess that is what makes her different, what makes her Madonna.

Madonna

Madonna’s signature style keeps evolving, it was once eccentric, colourful, risqué and urban, and now it is more conservative, fashion-forward and ‘grown-up chic’, but it still switches from time to time, depending on her mood I guess. I LOVE the way she keeps us all on our toes. It works because I am always so eager to see what she is wearing on a Red Carpet Event or on stage. It is ‘never say never’ when her style is concerned, and she never goes unnoticed, and I love that about her.

Madonna-Style-Through-Ages

In a way, she is a Style Icon and a Fashion Criminal at the same time. She slays most of her looks, and has fought and won the fashion right to express herself anyway she pleases. She can get away with wearing some pieces that don’t exactly hit the spot, just because she is Madonna, pieces like this below:

However, when her copycats like Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga try to copy her style, they look horrible. That is why she is the Style Icon.

Female Body Shapes: The Athletic Woman

Princess Diana

So last week, I wrote about The Pocket Rocket Woman, so this week is all about the Athletic Woman.

The athletic woman is usually a tomboy, she has a defined, toned, V-shape silhouette, she is more slender than skinny, and has broad shoulders and slim hips. This female body shape has become quite popular since the 1980s, many women aspire to have this body shape. Late Princess Diana, Madonna, Cameron Diaz Kendall Jenner and Katharine Hepburn, rocked and are rocking this body shape, they have made women want this shape.

This athletic woman has small breasts and narrow hips so most pieces look good on her toned body shape which is why most models fall into this body shape category.

Here are the DOs and the DONTs of this female body shape:

DOs

  • Your toned shoulders and back are your greatest assets. Flaunt them.
  • Go for light tailored pieces, they suit your body shape.
  • Opt for smock style shirts with puffed sleeves to soften arms and shoulders.
  • Go for tops and dresses with high neck lines, like halter neck styles; these add inches to smaller busts.
  • Go for dresses in jersey and chiffon with patterns and floaty skirts that instantly soften angular lines, these pieces add some girliness and create curves in all the right places.
  • Opt for layered and wrap tops and dresses as they add dimension to the body and create the illusion of a waist.

DONTs

  • Avoid tight, clingy pieces, they will highlight the fact that you have no waist.
  • Avoid baggy tops, unless you are rocking it with a belt or any other detailing, it may seem like the easiest solution but it will make your slender body shape look very shapeless.
  • Avoid vertical striped pieces as they hide curves.
  • Avoid wearing sky-high heels, you will appear longer.
