The Gift of Flowers

Growing up in Africa, I was not much of a flower girl. Life was not too busy in the crazy city of Lagos, for me to have the time to think of planting or flowers. But I am now at a point in my life where I appreciate the gift of flowers. I think flowers are a great gift to give and receive.

Flowers are now universally accepted in this part of the world, and I can see why. Flowers send unspoken messages, and I think it is a great easy way to show appreciation to a friend or family member, or even a work colleague. I do prefer some flowers to others, some strike a deeper chord in my heart and I find them delicately pretty. Here are 3 of my favourite flowers –

Roses

When I think of Red Roses, I think of Love. I love Red Roses. It is a very pretty flower. I am also a lover of the Pink, Yellow, Peach and Orange Roses.     I think they all smell amazing, and would make great gifts, depending on the occasion.

The quality of the flowers matter as well, so it’s best to get them from a reputable supplier like Flying Flowers, who has been in the business of handmade bouquets for decades now.

Sunflowers

Sunflowers are another favourite of mine. While researching the origin of Sunflowers, I discovered hey were one of the first crops to be grown in America, and their seeds were used to make flour for bread. Did you know that?

Sunflowers make me very happy. There is something so positive and uplifting about the sunflower, it could be because of the yellow colour and in your face shape.

Tulips

Tulips are another favourite of mine. I love having a Tulip Bouquet in the house. And when it comes to the gift of flowers, they are great to give as a birthday, wedding, anniversary or congratulatory gift. I think the Tulip also represents Love, Happiness and Positivity. Do you agree?

  1. MY favourites are also roses, but white ones. We had them all around the house on our wedding day and my hubby still buys them for me every week. 🙂

  2. I love both giving and receiving flowers. Tulips are a favourite of mine. I get a little bit obsessed with them when spring comes around.

  3. Aww I love flowers and cover them a lot on my blog. They just make anything a lot easier and brighten up any room so I ca’t imagine my dining room table without them. My favourites are roses, peonies, sunflowers and lilies.

  4. Tulips are my favourite. When my youngest was a little boy we used to sing the song ”tulips for Amsterdam” When he was older he got the opportunity to go to Amsterdam and asked me ”how he was going to bring me back tulips” I said for him to send me a postcard of tulips, which he did. I still have that postcard (he is 21 now) in a frame with the other family photo’s. The photo is of the tulips fields. Special memories no one can take away
