You all know how crazy I am when it comes to beauty and skincare products. Well I am also very into skincare treatments. I neglected my skin for many years, and I am actually playing catch up now. My skin is great but I would love to clear a few pigmentation issues. I had the golden opportunity to have a SkinBase Microdermabrasion Treatment a week ago, and my facial skin is still thanking me for it today. My skin has never looked so good.
What is Microdermabrasion
For those who have never heard of the Microdermabrasion Treatment, it is a non-invasive procedure that uses exfoliating tiny crystals or a diamond tip to help remove the layer of dead skin cells. When you remove the top layer of skin, the body interprets it as an injury. The body then quickly replaces the lost skin cells with new healthy ones.
My Microdermabrasion Treatment
My treatment was at Professional Eyes Studio in Northwich on a Saturday. As soon as I walked into the studio, I felt relaxed and ready for some pampering. The therapist examined my entire face. And then my face was cleansed of all makeup using a cleanser and the treatment started. I found the treatment completely painless and I was comfortable all through the treatment. A wand delivering a fine jet of abrasive crystals was used all over the skin. If I was to describe the sensation of the machine, it felt like an intense scrubbing on the face. Like a buff and polish of the skin.
Once the treatment was done, a simple moisturiser without any essential oils, AHA’s, glycolics or retinol was applied to replenish lost moisture and to prevent the skin becoming dry and peeling. The moisturiser used after this treatment must contain SPF to protect the skin from excessive sun exposure
The entire Microdermabrasion treatment was about 30 minutes. It ended with a hand massage which felt so good. As an online entrepreneur, I am forever online typing one thing or the other on a gadget, so having a hand massage was exactly what my tired fingers needed.
Microdermabrasion Aftercare Advice
- Heavy makeup should not be used for the first 12 hours after the treatment.
- No swimming, facial waxing or fake tan application for the first 24 hours.
- Saunas, sun beds, sun exposure, botox, collagen injections or dermal fillers should not be used for the first 48 hours.
- Anti-ageing creams, AHAs, Glycolics, retinol or exfoliating products should not be used for the first 72 hours.
Who needs Microdermabrasion
I would recommend this treatment to anyone dealing with pigmentation, acne scarring, wrinkles and fine lines. SkinBase™ is the leading Microdermabrasion treatment. There are over 2,000 accredited salons and spas in the UK & Ireland, so there should be a salon near you. The therapist at the salon would examine your skin during the first consultation to determine the course of treatment you need. Treatments plans can vary from single ‘beauty boost’ treatments to courses of 6 to 20 treatments every 7 to 10 days.
I had a single beauty boost treatment as my skin didn’t need a course of treatments. But I will be having a treatment every couple of months as I loved the glow the treatment has given my skin. It feels brand new. My skin has never looked this good and I am loving it so much. I didn’t have any reactions after the treatment except a bit of dryness which went away after 24 hours. I used lots of Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion for the first 48 hours to replenish moisturise. It helped a lot. And I did splash my face with cold water once after the treatment when my face felt dead dry. With lots of mosituriser afterwards.
You can check out the short video below to see how my skin glowed after the treatment. The picture above does not do it justice.

Thank you for reading.
*I received this treatment in exchange for a review but all thoughts are 100% mine as always.
My wife is a dermatologist and she uses microdermabrasion on a daily basis. Though its very effective, it has its limitations. It cannot be used in everyone and all skin types (there are six types BTW). Glad it worked out for you!
Yes it worked out great. Thank you.
I have never gone on thought for microdermabration treatment. I have a little acne scars mark. I use concealer to hide it. But are you sure it won’t have any side affect??
No side effect for me so far and it has been almost 2 weeks now. Best to speak with a skin therapist before having any treatment. Your skin would be examined and you would be advised on what to do.
Great advice for everyone out there who gets acne scars. I’ve increasingly seen this being recommended so good to have an honest review.
Thank you. It is a great treatment.
So interesting! I’ve heard great things about microdermabrasion. I want to try it also someday. What fab results!
Glad you found the post interesting.
I would love to try something like the treatment you had, to try and revive my dull and ageing skin a little bit!
This is a great treatment to try for sure.
