Style Icon: Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn is one of the most stylish women ever, so her being a style icon should come as no surprise. I am surprised I haven’t featured her in the style category already as a style icon. This stylish woman was the real deal as far as fashion and style was concerned by in the day, and her style is still influencing trends today. Audrey Hepburn’s style was effortlessly chic, very stylish and feminine. She knew what looked good on her and she rocked it! This woman is definitely one of my favourite style icons. She is style goals all day, everyday, and I am a huge fan. Do you agree?

I love how Hepburn could look amazing in pretty much anything, even on her dress down days. The key to her style is in her simplicity. If you have a capsule wardrobe, you easily recreate many of her famous looks. This stylish woman was a huge fan of monochrome pieces and simple chic accessories. She was usually rocking an all black look. Audrey Hepburn loved her black dresses and skirts, and her outfits always stood out for the right reasons. She was and still is a force to reckon with in the fashion and style world. Some may find her simple outfits boring but I think they are super fashionable. Maybe that’s because she had such an amazing charisma.

What To Do When You Have Graduated From University

*Collaborative post.

Are you in your final year of uni? If so, are you worried about what will happen when you graduate? It can seem like such a massive step in your life. For many, this is when you finally feel like an independent adult as you finish your education. For others, this is an anxious time as there are so many decisions you still need to make.

I can’t explicitly tell you what you should do after graduation. But I can make a few suggestions or show you the best options. Hopefully, this helps you make the right decision.

Keep Studying

The first option is to keep studying. Get a Master’s degree, and then possibly entertain the idea of a Ph. D! You could even try for an Ed. D after your Master’s, but as Bradley University notes, this is mainly for people that want a career in academic leadership. Still, the point is that you have lots of extra options to continue your education. This can be a smart idea – or possibly even essential – depending on your chosen career path. Some industries and jobs are highly competitive, meaning you need to keep studying to set yourself apart from excellent qualifications.

Find A Job

Another obvious course of action is to head out and find a job. If you want to do this, then be sure to set the wheels in motion before you graduate. Line up job interviews, look for graduate jobs, and so on. It can seem scary applying for jobs, but wasn’t that the point of university? Ideally, you want a job that either relates to your degree or uses your degree to some advantage. Listen, you might not find your dream job, but that doesn’t matter. There’s plenty of time for a career change, so think more about getting your foot in the door. The earlier you can start making money, the better!

Travel

Lots of people leave uni and go travelling for a while. It sounds like a lazy thing to do – almost like you’re avoiding this big decision. However, it can actually be a smart choice. When else will you get the time to travel again? When you start work, your life becomes dedicated to it. So, use this unique opportunity to see as much of the world as possible. Also, what if you graduate and still don’t know what to do in life? Travelling is a great way to experience new things and finally decide what it is you’d like to do. A year of travel can clear your mind and stop you from making a poor career choice early on! It’s not for everyone, but this could be the right move for you.

Most of you will – and should – fall into either of these three categories. No option is the ‘best’; it varies from person to person. One thing I can say is that you absolutely want to have some sort of plan before you graduate. The worst-case scenario is that you leave uni with no clue what to do. Here, you’re likely to waste so many weeks and months doing absolutely nothing!

How Do You Land a Job In Fashion?

*Collaborative post.

Of all the industries that you can work in, none are quite as appealing as fashion. Indeed, other than working as an actress or musician, it’s probably right at the top of the list of “dream jobs” for many people. Alas, part of the charm is that it’s so elusive. While people do, of course, work in the fashion industry, there are many more people hoping to work in it than there are positions available. However, it’s not impossible! In this blog, we’ll take a look at a few key tips that’ll put you on the right path.

Get an Internship

You may prefer to go straight into a paid position, but take it from us: it’s recommended that you do an internship, for various reasons. For starters, you’ll get an insight into a higher level of the industry than you would if you had an entry-level position. Those jobs are important, but it’s best to see what the world at the top of the chain is like too. You’ll also get to try your hand at many more tasks than you would as an employee of a business. So get writing, and see which companies will offer you one.

Look at Smaller Companies

You might be looking to work at one of the huge fashion houses, but then, so is everyone else. While many people focus on the big names, there are plenty of smaller companies that are also doing fantastic stuff — and they also receive many fewer applications than the big names. Additionally, you’ll have more responsibilities if you’re working in a team of just a few people. They can be great places to work, especially when you’re just first getting started.

Upgrade Your Education

While fashion is creative and fun and so on, it’s also important to remember that the industry is ultimately about business. As such, another route into the fashion industry is to look at careers that you’ll know they’ll need. You’ll be more valuable to a fashion company if you hold a Master of Business Administration degree from Norwich University. If you want to work in the fashion industry but not necessarily in one of the creative positions, then look at working at ‘behind the scenes.’ You’ll still get all the cool perks of working for a fashion company!

Don’t Wait For Opportunities

If you want to work in fashion, or indeed any popular industry, then you have to learn how to hustle. Opportunities are not going to come knocking at your door. It’s up to you to get out there and find them. And when you do find them, to take advantage of them. If you take a look at the backstory of some of fashion’s most famous names, you’ll find that none of them just fell into their line of work: they were bold and brave and made things happen. So it’s recommended to get talking with people at any opportunity; you never know where it might take you in your career.
