Fashion & Style Police Interviews Rebecca Warwick/Regal Rose

So I had the privilege of interviewing one of the talented ladies behind the famous jewellery brand – Regal Rose, and it was a fun chat. Regal Rose was launched in 2009 by twin sisters Louise and Rebecca Warwick, and they release two collections a year. Their designs are super quirky and creative, and has been spotted on the Xfactor UK, Rita Ora & Ellie Goulding, and in magazines such as Grazia, LOOK, and Cosmopolitan.

This promises to be a good read, so grab a cuppa and get comfy.

Where do you get your inspiration from for your designs?

Up until a few weeks back myself and Louisa were the sole designers for each seasonal collection. Our inspiration for each design comes from a wide range of areas including our favourite childhood films like Alice in Wonderland, Labrynth, Edwards Scissor Hands, Return to Oz and Legend. Nature also plays it’s part in our work; we find inspiration everywhere we go, from the colours and forms of plants and flowers to the tones and shapes of the winter and spring months. We spend a lot of time researching, brain storming and focus heavily on ‘up and coming’ trends, whilst always pushing to stay well ahead in the jewellery design sector. More recently, the design team has grown and we now work very closely with the team.

How do you cope in the competitive fashion industry?

Not to badly! We stay focused on our own business. I think that’s key. After all, we want to lead, not follow. We’re lucky enough to be both
creative and business minded, so we really do enjoy the designing and the competitive nature of the fashion industry.

What advice would you give anyone thinking of setting up a jewellery line?

Work hard and stay focused. Nothing just happens, the more effort you put in the more results you will get (Obvious but so important!). Stay focused and plan your strategy. Stay away from following other brands, make your own print.

Where do you see Regal Rose in 5 years?

Our designs are currently stocked at ASOS, Free People, Urban Outfitters US and Selfridges. We hope to be stocked by many more large retailers in 5 years time. We’re also working on growing our team!

What do you think of the Fashion and Style Police blog?

We think its great! Very informative. There’s always something interesting to read. We feel there’s a underlining ‘realness’ to the blog and is
refreshingly down to earth.

If in Doubt, Wear Black.

If in Doubt, Wear Black.

All Black OOTD

The colour black is always in vogue, regardless of the fashion season or where you are in the world. Trends may come and go, but black is always in style, or so it seems. The colour is constantly in the shops, and on the catwalk, all year. It is a prominent colour in the wardrobe of most fashion conscious men and women. Many fashion bloggers, fashion designers and style icons like Victoria Beckham, Rachel Zoe, and Audrey Hepburn, are usually seen rocking all black outfits, and who would blame them, black is a very powerful colour.

Dressing in all black is often perceived as a strong, stylish, fashion statement. It is classic and timeless, and the true style queens now how to work it. It takes confidence to wear all black and look good. There is a thin line between wearing all black, and looking stylish, and wearing all black, and looking grumpy.

I love anything black. Monochrome pieces and accessories are also my favourites. I find them versatile, super flattering, and easy to style. I love the fact that I can wear the same classic black dress to the office, to a restaurant and to an event. I attended a bloggers event with Propellernet and Premier Inn last year, and I remember thinking long and hard of what pieces to wear for the 2 day event.  I wanted to dress formally, but I didn’t want to stand out too much. It was my first bloggers event and all, so I was going in there blind, not sure what to expect. I just obeyed the fashion golden rule – ‘If in Doubt, Wear Black’, and it worked. I settled on a black fitted Next dress for the first day, and a black Next top and skirt for the second day (Yes, I love Next), and I looked stylish and chic, but not over the top, which was the look I was going for.

Most of my pieces and accessories are in black. I only started adding some colour to my wardrobe some years ago, there was a time I had only monochrome clothing and accessories, but a bit of colour is required every now and again. Whenever I have an event to attend, and I can’t think of what to wear, I just throw on a black outfit, and it is yet to fail me. If in doubt, just wear black.

Do you agree? Is black a prominent colour in your wardrobe? Drop me a comment, let’s chat.

Thanks for reading. Thank God its Friday.

Have a great weekend x

The Fashion Victims

H&M Jumper Post

Who are Fashion Victims? Read this and find out…..

Most of the clothes we pick up from the high street and luxury stores, are manufactured in Asia. Even most of the clothing labels that claim to be made in the UK, are actually manufactured in Asia. It could be a final piece added to the clothes, like a zip for example, that could warrant a ‘made in the UK’ label.

The whole idea behind manufacturing clothes in Asia factories, is to keep the costs as low as possible, and to achieve the highest profits possible. Bangladesh factories attract a lot of clothing companies, could be because of the $38 monthly wage, and the lack of adequate health and safety regulations.

Most of these factory workers are women like me, working extremely long hours, in overcrowded factories with substandard facilities for a very low wage. 95% of UK bloggers won’t accept $38 for a sponsored post, but yet these women and men, work very long and hard, for little compensation in return. I know $38 can do a lot more in Asia than in this part of the world, but still, it is too little, compared to the profits these clothing companies make on a yearly basis.

Outfit Post OOTD 1

In the news, we keep reading about various preventable factory fires, killing thousands of these workers, and yet some of these factories are still operating in dangerous working conditions. The fashion companies are not doing enough to make sure the working conditions in the factories are safe, or are they turning a blind eye?

Well, someone needs to take responsibility for the voiceless fashion victims. For the women and people who have no choice but work in these factories to sustain themselves and their families. Someone needs to take responsibility, the fashion companies need to take responsibilities for their ’employees’. We as consumers, need to take responsibility for our purchases.

I try not to shop in stores, famous for using such factories, but some of us do not have a choice, because some of these stores sell their pieces dead cheap, and for those on a tight budget, they can’t be bothered with the whole politics of factory workers. It seems too far away for some of us to care, but I do care.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think of the working conditions of these factory workers when you shop? I need to know. Drop me a comment, let’s chat.
