How to Choose Bridesmaids Dresses

If you are planning a wedding, and have been paying attention to Fashion and Style Police, you would know January is the best time to shop for a wedding dress. So with the wedding dress out-of-the-way, you need to start thinking of bridesmaids dresses. This task can be very time-consuming, so it is best to start as soon as you can. How do you choose bridesmaids dresses? Here are some tried and tested shopping and styling tips you may find very useful if you are a bride to be.

Decide on colours and style

When I got married years ago. I decided on the colours and style I wanted for my bridesmaids and went shopping with the information in mind. The colours of the day were gold and midnight blue. I wanted my maid of honour to wear long gold dress and my bridesmaids to wear midnight blue mid-length dresses. I pictured the styles I wanted in my head already, so once I laid eyes on the dresses, I knew I wanted them.

Shop in the right stores

Shopping in the right stores saves time and money. I am a massive fan of Coast bridesmaids dresses. They are usually very chic and elegant. Bridesmaids always stand out wearing their dresses. I can always spot a Coast dress from a distance. The quality and attention to detail on Coast dresses is second to none on the high street as you can see below.

Bring your bridesmaids on board

I always advise brides to bring their bridesmaids on board when choosing their dresses, especially when the bridesmaids are paying for them. It makes sense to make sure your maids are happy with the colour, style and price of the dress you have selected. You don’t want them feeling uncomfortable on the wedding day. If possible, go shopping for the dresses with as many of your bridesmaids as you can.

Try them on

Get your bridesmaids to try on the dresses as soon as possible if you don’t go shopping with them. If you have to buy any dress in the absence of a bridesmaid like I had to, make sure you have their measurements. Many are not aware of the fact that bridesmaid dresses sizes are not the same as traditional clothing ones. Which means their usual size won’t apply. It will usually go up a size or 2!

Get the shoes

The mistake I made with my girls was that I didn’t get the same shoes for all of them. I told them the colour and they are showed wearing shoes in various styles, which I didn’t really like. So, I always advise any bride to pick out shoes as well as the dress for the bridesmaids. It looks a lot better when they are all wearing the same style of shoes. And you can be sure no one would turn wearing something odd.

Find the accessories

Once the dress and shoes are sorted, the next stop is accessories. You want your bridesmaids to look beautiful, and accessories play a vital role in finishing off a look the right way. So you have to get them right. To create a stylish uniformed look, you can use pins, scarves, belts and jewelry to finish off the look.

6 Fashion Trends to Try in 2018

It’s 2018 and that means it’s time to welcome to the rich, vibrant and creative fashion collections of the year. Since it’s the new year it’s good to start early and keep yourself up-to-date with the fashion trends you will come across in 2018.

Of course, as we progress through the year we’ll see changes in the fashion trends, but that does not mean that there won’t be go-to staples that will be the highlight of the year. So here are 6 fashion trends you should try this year.

  1. Art-infused clothing

It seems like in 2018 we’ll be seeing a lot of colour in outfits and a lot of respect to artwork. Imagine wearing clothes with great art printed on them. This brings out the amazing colour and vibrance that we will see in 2018.

Big fashion designers like Versace and Prada have already introduced this kind of outfits in their collections and we should expect more to flood the runway and boutique this year.

  1. Fringes fringes fringes

We have witnessed quite a number of fringed clothing and accessories in 2017 and it’s not going to stop in 2018. From bags to tops and dresses, fringes will be everywhere in 2018. It will be one of the show stoppers this year. It makes outfits look fun and playful and adds a lot of movement to the pieces.

  1. Denims rule

I think denim pieces can never go out of fashion no matter what. They are here to stay every year. However, we will see a lot of new twists of creativity in denim outfits this year.

There has been a trend of dark coloured denims showing up on the runway. This is really different from the light coloured denim that we are used to. There will also be mix of two-tone denim to add a lot of variation to the denim collections that will be released this year.

  1. Signs of plastic

Without a doubt there will a lot of modern perspectives to the fashion collections this year. One of the things we will see a lot in 2018 is plastic outfits. Starting mainly with outerwear like jackets and then with footwear like boots. These pieces are mainly see-through which adds a new dimension to fashion. It’s certainly going to be attractive and eye-catching.

  1. Pajama-inspired numbers

Obviously, just like every year we will see something out of the ordinary pop up in the fashion line. And this year we have the pajama-inspired outfits. We all love the comfort of being in our pajamas and with this in mind there will be beautiful and trendy silk pieces with the close resemblance of pajamas.

  1. Florals from the 60s

Almost every year we see flowers show up on outfits and this year will not be any different. Floral patterns will be part of a lot of outfits this year, but this time the floral designs will be from the 60s. They promise to be bold and fresh just like the new year.

What are your thoughts on these fashion trends? Are you excited about any in particular?

OOTD: Staying Warm this Winter

It is freezing at the moment and I am lost in many layers of clothing.  This weather is kind of expected in January, so no surprises really. However, I intend to stay warm. It is so funny to see some people walking around in very little clothing. I wonder how they do it. Just so you know, I had my very warm winter jacket on standby while I took these outfit photos. So don’t be deceived by this outfit.

I took these photos some days ago while holidaying in Essex. We took a quick set of outfit photos on a Samsung phone since I decided to leave my Nikon Cameras at home. I must say, I am quite impressed with the picture quality on the Samsung phone. It is so amazing. I am an Apple girl at heart but lately the quality on my iPhone has left a lot to be desired. I am looking to get a new phone this year and I am not sure which brand to go for at the moment. Mu head says Samsung but my heart says Apple. What phone do you use?

I got this Merino Wool Mix Sweater by Damart some weeks ago. It is a new wardrobe addition I am seriously loving. I love the sparkle colour block design. It is one luxury piece I can style effortlessly and I like the fact that it can be worn day or night. I also feel dead warm inside it. It is such a quality piece. And great for those who plan to stay warm this winter.

The pair of leggings I have is also a new wardrobe addition. I got that some weeks ago, and I plan on getting some more pairs. A woman can never have too many pairs of leggings. I think leggings are one of the most versatile pieces ever and I am forever buying new sets.
