How to get your makeup to last all day part 1

Makeup is like magic to me. The right makeup products have the power to transform everyone. Which is why I like to pay special attention to my makeup products. I am lucky to get opportunities to review many products each month. Some products are better than others, and I always make sure I get the amazing products again once I run out.

I have had the privilege to use all sorts of makeup and I know the importance of using the right makeup. Many of us want our makeup to stay put all day. I remember growing up, that was one of the issues I had. I would apply makeup before leaving the house, and it would be wiped off within a few hours. So I know all about how frustrating it can be when your makeup seems to just vanish off your face.

How to get your makeup to last all day

So how do you get your makeup to last all day? Here are some tips that you may find useful –

Care for the skin underneath

Having a good skincare routine is the first step to helping your makeup stay on for longer. You should ensure you are using the right skincare products. Ensure you use the right cleansers, makeup remover, moisturisers and face creams. I like to spoil myself with a face mask every week. It does wonders for my skin. For moisturisers, I currently use Bio Oil and No7 Lift & Luminate Triple Action Day Cream SPF 15 50ml.

Also, make sure you take your makeup off before you go to sleep and treat your skin right from within by eating and drinking right. Once your skin is smooth and supple, your makeup tends to stay on for longer.  I currently use AVON True Nutra Effects Gentle Bi-Phase Eye Make-up Remover, and it wipes every trace of my makeup off.

Use a primer first

Now this is a very important tip. You should apply a primer first before you apply your foundation. I always use a primer first if I know I am going to be out all day and I need my makeup staying on.

I currently use Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer and it is so amazing. It keeps my makeup on for more than 12 hours.

Quality Foundation and Concealer

I like to spend a bit more when it comes to my foundation and concealer because I believe the more I spend, the better the quality. I have all sorts of foundation and concealer products in my makeup storage box, but I always recommend Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place FoundationIt is super long lasting, stays on all day. This foundation is definitely number 1 in the makeup market.

When it comes to concealers, I prefer MAC Pro Longwear Concealer. It conceals all that needs concealing and it stays on all day. Love it.

Face Powder that works

Once my primer, foundation and concealer (in that order) have been applied and blended in, the next stage is applying the face powder. I go for quality here as well, and I like my MAC. The Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation by MAC works great for me. It stays on all day and I hardly ever need to top up except for my t section.

The Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In Place Powder Makeup SPF10 is another favourite of mine. It works great with the foundation and leaves my face looking stunning all day. It just glides on and stays on.

I will be writing a follow up with recommending more great makeup products –  eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks, eye liners and more. So look out for that post in the next few days.

Halloween Beauty Tips

Halloween is almost here and we can smell it in the air. Eveywhere I look, I see something “Halloweeny” and it feels cool. While growing up, we never celebrated Halloween. It was one of those things we saw on TV and I didn’t quite understand the hype. It is just one of those celebrations I think is massively commercialised, but it is fun for many grown ups and kids, so it is worth talking about. I am kind of into it now, well sort of..

I published a Halloween Makeup Look this time last year and I remember it being fun to create. I messed about with my wigs and makeup bag contents and came up with this look below.

Scary Halloween Makeup

I was going for a proper spooky look and I think nailed. It was a collaboration makeup post for a brand and my look was the spookiest of all, lol.

I see many beauty and lifestyle bloggers creating various Halloween makeup looks and I thought to share a few Halloween beauty tips that have worked for me –

Make Use of What You Have in your Makeup Bag

I didn’t buy any new makeup for this look. Although I was initially contemplating buying some colourful palettes. I decided to save money and make use of what I had in my makeup bag. So the whitish look was created with my MAC Pro Longwear Concealer. The green you see is my green MAC Eyeshadow to go with the green contact lenses I had on. The dark lips was created using my Rimmel Eyeliner.

The Spookier, the Better

I applied many layers of makeup to ensure my look was very spooky. Halloween is all about the spooky looks and that is what I love about it. So go all out with your Halloween makeup. Get the layers on!

Take it Off

Take off the many layers of makeup as soon as you can to avoid breakouts and other skin issues. I would recommend you make use of a face wash to ensure every trace of makeup is wiped off. Ensure you apply a nourishing moisturiser right after to soothe your skin.

Read Blogs/Watch YouTube Videos

If you are lacking inspiration, go on blogs and Youtube channels for some Halloween insoiration. There are many looks about now so I am sure you will be inspired by a couple.

Go Dark

And if the scary Halloween makeup looks are not right up your street, just go dark. A natural makeup with a dark lipstick is all you need.

Halloween Makeup: Grumpy Old Troll

Hey guys. Welcome to October. Halloween is round the corner and I have a makeup look to inspire you this season. This is my first Halloween look ever, I have never tried creating one before, so I am proud to say this ‘grumpy old troll look’ is all mine. I created this look to inspire anyone who might need a makeup idea for Halloween and I am looking forward to creating many more Halloween makeup looks, and sharing them on the blog, so watch this space.

I achieved this look using my regular makeup products, which are mentioned and pictured below, as well as FreshLook ColorBlends contact lenses in Gemstone Green courtesy of Vision Direct.

Products/Steps Taken

To get the Grumpy Old Troll look for Halloween, I started off with a clean, moisturised face, I applied a bit of The Body Shop Instablur with my fingers to prep and prime my face and get it ready for the many colours about to come. I applied some Marykay medium coverage foundation in Bronze 504 using a Marykay flat foundation brush to even out my skin tone.

Then, I applied a whole lot of MAC Cosmetics Pro Longwear Concealer in NW15 (which is a shade lighter) using a MAC concealer brush for a white effect.

Next, I created black and thick looking eyebrows using a Rimmel dark brown brow pencil to line the brows, The Body Shop Brow and Liner kit in Brunette and Brown shade to fill out the brows and a Rimmel Exaggerate black eyeliner to paint the brows black.

I tidied up the eyebrows using a Revlon brush with a bit of concealer to get rid of any excesses at the edges, I lined my eyes with a black Rimmel Soft Khol Kajal Eye Pencil, and applied MAC Greensmoke (a green smoky shade) and Electric Eel eyeshadows (a shimmering blue shade) with an angled shading MAC brush and blended both colours together with a MAC tapered blending brush.

Next, I lined my eyes with a black Rimmel Exaggerate eye liner, and added an exaggerated flick.

Next, I applied some more MAC Greensmoke eyeshadow underneath my lower eyelashes for a more dramatic effect, dabbed some Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation in NW45 all over the face with a The Body Shop powder blush, applied a MAC lip primer to smoothen the lips, and then shaded the lips all over with a Rimmel black lip pencil. The lips were also lined downward for a grumpy look.

Next, to contour and highlight, I applied a MAC Swiss Chocolate powder blush to my cheekbones for some definition, and The Body Shop Baked To Last Bronzer in a bronze shade: warm glow just above my cheekbones, under my eyebrows, down my nose and my chin for a healthy glow.

Then I put in my ColorBlends Gemstone Green contact lenses and applied several coats of Rimmel Extra WOW Lash Extreme Black mascara to both upper and lower lashes.

Finally, I decided to step the look up a bit and added some more of the MAC Greensmoke eyeshadow underneath my right eye and lined the edges with a MAC Carbon eyeshadow.
