As a twin mother, I will be using the kids section on this blog to share parenting information I consider important. Before having the twins, I didn’t think about teddy bears much. I knew kids loved to have them around and most of the teddy bears I found in the stores were cute, but that was about it. Having the kiddies changed my entire outlook on life. It made me think deeper about many things I won’t have given a second thought to prior to having them. One of those things is the teddy bear and how important they are to the little ones.

The Science Behind the Teddy Bears

Teddy bears are more than just another purchase for your child with. They serve a purpose in your child’s life. The special cuddly toys can serve as a transitional object for when mother and child need to be separated. They are meant to remind a baby of her mother, and they provide the comfort needed when the mother is not present.

For us, I am a work from home mother, so I didn’t have to go back to my old job after having the twins. And the twins didn’t go to a childcare setting until they were 3 years old. So we didn’t have to use teddy bears as a transitional object in that sense. What they helped us with was making our everyday routine a lot easier.

The twins had a special teddy they went to bed with everyday including at nap times from when they were newborns. They have added to their teddy bear collection along the years, but these special 2 are still their favourites from the bunch. I can say for a fact that the teddy bears helped our routine go smoothly. They knew what to expect, when to expect and they knew the teddies would always be there for when they need to snooze off. I had to sleep train the twins from when they were as young as 3 months, so the routine was in place from then really.

Now the kiddies are in primary school and are thriving. They still sleep with their teddies and the special teddies are still very special to them. They are so special that my daughter even blogged about them the other day. You can watch the video on our YouTube Channel below.
