Styling A White Shirt

If you have been reading Fashion and Style Police for a while then you would know all about my love for designer items. I like to mix high street  with high-end designer pieces and accessories to create my look, and it works for me. So you can imagine my excitement when the lovely people at McArthurGlen invited me to shop at their designer outlet in Cheshire last Saturday. If you follow me on Instagram (and if you don’t, why don’t you?), you would have seen my updates while shopping at the designer outlet. I had an amazing time as you can imagine. Shopping is what I like to do, I can even do it in my sleep…

This shopping event was centered around styling the iconic white shirt. McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Cheshire Oaks teamed up with iconic tailoring brand – Brooks Brothers to launch an exciting pop-up concept: The White Shirt Bar. I visited this exclusive custom designed airstream. With over 200sqft of space, the 31ft airstream has been refurbished to create a unique, one-off shopping experience. For those who do not know, Brook Brothers founded in 1818, is one of the most iconic American brands and the oldest clothier in the United States, having dressed 39 of the
44 United States Presidents and being the first to introduce the concept of button-down collar shirts and ready-made men’s suits to the American market.

Today Brooks Brothers has 280 stores across 23 countries and 5 continents and is heavily engaged in the world of film and TV, having created all of the men’s costumes for the 2013 production of The Great Gatsby starring one of my favourite actors – Leonardo DiCaprio, costumes for every season of the popular TV series – Mad Men as well as many other film and TV productions.

The White Shirt Bar would be available at Cheshire Oaks for the whole of October so it is definitely worth checking out.

I was gifted a white shirt by Brooks Brothers, a goody bag with all sorts of goodies and yummies including some amazing white shirt cookies by Corporate Cakery, and a generous gift card to get pieces and accessories in the designer outlet to style the white shirt. I am a regular at the Cheshire Oaks designer outlet so I knew my way around, but I decided to hit the shops early as per my shopping smart tips. After going from shop to shop, I finally settled on the pieces you see below. I had a certain look in my head and I am glad I achieved it.

The white shirt has an amazing fit and screams quality from a distance. I also found it very easy to style. I got a few other pieces and accessories I will be showing off in upcoming outfit posts for your viewing pleasure, so keep your eyes peeled.

How to Shop Smart

Most of us struggle with an unlimited wish list but a very limited budget. So it makes sense to learn how to shop smartly so we get the most for our buck.

Here are some of my tried and tested tips for shopping on a budget:

Write A List

Writing a list and taking it with you to the shops is the first way to get your shopping right. Writing a list will save you time and money because you won’t be easily distracted, and you will buy items you don’t need. Prioritise your priorities and go with a list!

Go Early

I like hitting the shopping malls early before it gets crazy. I usually put off when stores are filled with customers. You won’t catching me shopping in the malls on Boxing Day sales these days. I like it when it is very quiet so I go early.

Outfit Image

Go Alone

Go shopping alone. You get a lot done quicker when you are by yourself, and you won’t get sidetracked. Plus shopping with young kids is usually a complete nightmare 99.9% of the time. I usually forget what I need to get so I rather shop alone.

Have A Budget

Have a budget of what you are happy to spend and stick to it. Withdrawing the exact amount you need may help you stick to your budget instead of shopping with your bank cards. Shopping with cash feels more real than bank cards so you are more likely to stick to your budget. Also, look out for stores where you can make use of coupons and discounts. Forever21 is quite a popular fashion brand, and there are usually loads of coupons and discounts available to help save some money.

Get Your Shopping Outfit Right

There is nothing more frustrating than shopping in an uncomfortable outfit. Picture a tight skirt and high heels; recipe for disaster. Shopping in flats and comfy clothes is the way to go if you plan to get anything done. If you are getting few things, heels may work for you, but if you plan to shop for hours, you need to get the outfit right.

Autumn Fashion Season Swag

One of the best things about a new season is a new wardrobe. And one of the best things about Autumn fashion is the layering and the cosy pieces. I get super excited about new season trends. All I need is an unlimited budget to get buying right? If only…

Since I can’t buy all the cool pieces in the stores, I happily lust after them. I have my mind on so many stylish pieces. Here are a few of them –

I love this double-breasted Sherling Coat a lot. The tan suedette fabric with super soft cream faux fur lining and faux fur oversized lapel is bang on trend. I have nothing like this stunning piece in my wardrobe so I think this coat will be a fabulous addition.

I am always on the lookout for stylish menswear for the man in my life and I think this camouflage hoodie is a fab choice. I love the camouflage print, I think it is so trendy and always in vogue. I wonder why I have no cam piece. I think I will need to change that. I can picture this hoody looking amazing on my man. It has Autumn fashion season swag written all over it.

 

Women’s Crew Neck Striped Wool Dress £180

This wool multi coloured dress is on my style radar; I don’t care how heavy the price tag is, lol..

I can picture myself rocking this beautiful piece with my black ankle boots. It would look amazing. Pairing this beauty with a pair of white sneakers would give it a nice laid back look too.

If you know me well enough, you would know how much I love my watches. I have not bought a new watch in a bit, but I have my eye on this gorgeous piece right here. It is so chic, so elegant. I love the sophisticated look and the grey dial. I would so love to have this beautiful watch on my wrist. Maybe Santa would come early…

 

Faith Black ‘Brooke’ high boot £69

This Faith Black Brooke High Boots is the Truth! I would classify this as a wardrobe necessity this season. It is a great pair of boots to have this Autumn. It would take you from day-to-night easily. I can’t leave with a few pairs of ankle boots in my wardrobe during Autumn/Winter.
