Styling A White Shirt

If you have been reading Fashion and Style Police for a while then you would know all about my love for designer items. I like to mix high street  with high-end designer pieces and accessories to create my look, and it works for me. So you can imagine my excitement when the lovely people at McArthurGlen invited me to shop at their designer outlet in Cheshire last Saturday. If you follow me on Instagram (and if you don’t, why don’t you?), you would have seen my updates while shopping at the designer outlet. I had an amazing time as you can imagine. Shopping is what I like to do, I can even do it in my sleep…

This shopping event was centered around styling the iconic white shirt. McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Cheshire Oaks teamed up with iconic tailoring brand – Brooks Brothers to launch an exciting pop-up concept: The White Shirt Bar. I visited this exclusive custom designed airstream. With over 200sqft of space, the 31ft airstream has been refurbished to create a unique, one-off shopping experience. For those who do not know, Brook Brothers founded in 1818, is one of the most iconic American brands and the oldest clothier in the United States, having dressed 39 of the
44 United States Presidents and being the first to introduce the concept of button-down collar shirts and ready-made men’s suits to the American market.

Today Brooks Brothers has 280 stores across 23 countries and 5 continents and is heavily engaged in the world of film and TV, having created all of the men’s costumes for the 2013 production of The Great Gatsby starring one of my favourite actors – Leonardo DiCaprio, costumes for every season of the popular TV series – Mad Men as well as many other film and TV productions.

The White Shirt Bar would be available at Cheshire Oaks for the whole of October so it is definitely worth checking out.

I was gifted a white shirt by Brooks Brothers, a goody bag with all sorts of goodies and yummies including some amazing white shirt cookies by Corporate Cakery, and a generous gift card to get pieces and accessories in the designer outlet to style the white shirt. I am a regular at the Cheshire Oaks designer outlet so I knew my way around, but I decided to hit the shops early as per my shopping smart tips. After going from shop to shop, I finally settled on the pieces you see below. I had a certain look in my head and I am glad I achieved it.

The white shirt has an amazing fit and screams quality from a distance. I also found it very easy to style. I got a few other pieces and accessories I will be showing off in upcoming outfit posts for your viewing pleasure, so keep your eyes peeled.

Famous actors and their suits

I like seeing a man in a smart well-tailored suit – there is nothing quite like it. However, choosing a good suit can be very tricky. You have to get the measurements right or you may end up looking like you borrowed the suit from your big brother! With that in mind, the next time you need to go shopping for a new elegant suit, have these famous actors and their suits on your mind…

Daniel Craig Filming Spectre

Daniel Craig Spectre Suit Image

Now this beauty over here is what I call a suit! It fits like a glove and looks amazing on him. But then again, I wasn’t expecting anything less from Daniel Craig. When you are James Bond, you have fashion stylists and designers working around the clock to ensure you look the part. And he does certainly look the part in this elegant suit right here.

Ryan Gosling Filming Crazy Stupid Love

Ryan Gosling Suit Image

I am a huge fan of Ryan Gosling’s style and his movies are usually epic. He wore this lovely looking suit while filming Crazy Stupid Love, and I love everything about the suit. The maroon colour is right up my street! I love how sharp it looks. I can see many blokes being inspired by this piece. It is such a beautiful suit.

Will Smith Filming Men in Black

We can’t talk about actors and their suits and not mention Will Smith’s fabulous looking black suit in Men in Black. This black suit is so stylish. I love the tailoring and I love how it looks on him. This famous black suit and tie ensemble is one of the safest ways to look good in a suit. It is almost impossible to get this look wrong.

Brad Pitt Filming Inglourious Basterds (Photocall)

Brad Pitt is a true style icon, and only true style icons with the right dose of confidence and carriage can look this good in a 2-piece pale pink suit. I am in love with this look. I think he pulled it off beautifully. But then again, it is Brad Pitt, and he can look good in pretty much anything!

Kevin Spacey Filming House of Cards

If you watch series on Netflix regularly, then you would have come across Kevin Spacey, as Frank Underwood in House of Cards. And you must have noticed Frank Underwood’s impeccable style. I love his suits, and this suit right here is one of my favourites.

Fielding & Nicholson Image

These men are some of the most stylish actors in Hollywood. They wear their suits, their suits do not wear them. I see many men walking around in suits that are look too long, too baggy, or ill-fitted, and it makes me wonder why they go for suits that do not look good on them. If you are inspired by these stylish actors and their suits, and want to step up your style game by shopping around for some good-looking suits, check out Fielding & Nicholson for stylish bespoke and made to measure suits. Fielding & Nicholson suits are made to the highest quality, and they offer customers a personalised service.

What are your thoughts on these suits? How will you describe a good-looking suit?

Menswear Style at BAFTAS 2016

With the 2016 TV BAFTA awards ceremony coming up on May 8th, many of us can’t wait to see who is wearing what on the red carpet. I will be paying special attention to the fellas this year, as most of them always look so dapper. Some of the men I LOVE seeing on the red carpet because of their brilliant sense of style are – Idris Elba, Leonardo Dicaprio, Michael Fassbender, amongst others.

Some of the famous looks these stylish men are usually spotted rocking on the red carpet are can be achieved from shopping at House of Fraser.

Here are some male style ideas for inspiration:

The Smart Commuter Wear

Smart Commuter Suit

This look is a regular on the red carpet. Most men go for this smart commuter look, as it is a safe option. The well-known comedian; Peter Kay from the BBC sitcom – Peter Kay’s Car Share, usually goes for this look and looks very smart rocking it. Likewise, property developer Simon Foster from the gripping psychological TV drama – Doctor Foster, is often seen in a shirt, trousers and blazer.

The Formalwear specialists Skopes Palmer, have made this outfit super comfortable to wear thanks to its high wool content, water repellency, stain resistant coating, two-way stretch, and its unique odour resist `Fresh Finish’. It is a perfect suit for the red carpet, work and everyday use in general. No wonder the celebs love it!

The Smart Casual

The smart casual look is very easy to achieve. All you will need to nail this look is a formal shirt – blue, black, white or red would look fab, and tuck it into a pair of some nice denim designer jeans and put on a blazer in a similar colour with your jeans, and you are good to go.

One of the UK’s leading artisan bakers, and celebrity chef; Paul Hollywood from BBC TV show – The Great British Bake Off, is also known for regularly stepping out rocking a smart casual outfit. This look can take you from the office, straight to the pub/bar easily.

The Trench Coat Look

Mens Trench Coat Image

Having a trench coat on definitely adds more style points to your fashion sense. Men’s trench coats have the power to upgrade your overall look for the better. No wonder it is loved by the celebs. Benedict Cumberbatch from the crime drama TV series – Sherlock, is usually seen on the streets of London and beyond wearing his trusty trench coat.

What do you think of the 3 looks? Which is your favourite?
