Outfit Post – How to wear a maxi dress

I usually shy away from maxi dresses because I struggle to find the right fit. As a petite woman, finding the right maxi dress to suit my body shape can be a struggle sometimes. When the opportunity came for me to pick a River Island dress to style, I decided to go outside my style comfort zone, and go for a maxi dress. I am a huge fan of River Island pieces, especially their jeans. They are all I wear. So I was sure I would find the right maxi dress to suit my shape. And I did. I found this stunning Beige Flute Sleeve Sequin Maxi Dress and it was the right fit!

Maxi dresses are not only great for eveningwear, but their versatile nature makes them a great go-to for daytime flair too. One dress holds the power to switch from date night, to the school run, to shopping or dinner. As an added bonus, it is almost impossible not to look exquisitely feminine in a maxi dress! Because this popular wardrobe item is so flexible, people are often confused about how to wear it. Where to start with accessorising? How to pair it with other clothing items? How to make it work in cold weather? If any of these questions have ever crossed your mind, I’m here to help you rock that maxi-dress, no matter the time of day or year!

This stunning dress is simply beautiful. I love the fact that it is not body hugging. It is such a comfy piece to wear. The sequin embellishment is a beauty to behold. And so is the lace-up v neck and side split. The style of this maxi dress is great for my body shape and with heels, it is the perfect length too!  Styling this lovely dress was dead easy. The dress has the “wow” factor already, so it was best to let it do all the talking. Nothing else should compete with this sort of dress, so all accessories and jewellery wear kept at a minimum. I am so in love with this sequin dress. It is definitely a great party dress. I can see myself wearing this beauty to an event/party.

When it comes to styling maxi dresses, I think it works best when there is a waist-defining design to it. This is why this River Island maxi dress works great because the tie waist keeps the waist defined.

What do you think of this outfit? Are you a fan of maxi dresses?

  1. I love this maxi dress on you – looks so elegant. It is definitely an occasion dress. I would wear it on a cruise for formal night and sip champagne on deck whilst watching the sunset!

  2. Your right! This maxi dress doesn’t need anymore styling. It looks fab on you too. It’s too light for me colour wise with me being fair. Loving an outfit and it being suited to me are two different things.

I have quite a few maxi dresses in my wardrobe. I do love them especially the stretch material type. I like to wear them with a denim sleeveless waistcoat or and a crochet pull over knitted top if it’s cooler.

  3. I honestly have NEVER found a maxi dress that works with my curvy shape and perhaps it is because I am not going for things that have a waist defining style to it. This post gives me hope the next time I go shopping that I too can move in to the fashion of maxi dresses without looking like I’m wearing a potato sack. Thanks!
