Blogging is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I started blogging over 6 years ago and it has now become more than just a hobby. When I started blogging in 2012, I never thought blogging would ever become my main source of income, but it has become just that, and I am forever grateful. Being able to work from home and be my own boss is a dream come true. I am able to work by myself from home to a schedule that works for me and my family. Every day is different and there is no dull moment in my working life now. My working life and personal life now complement each other beautifully and it makes me feel so fulfilled.
The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Keeping Your Sh*t Together: How to Run Your Business Without Letting it Run by Sherry Welling and Rob Welling
I have been busy reading a book – The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Keeping Your Sh*t Together: How to Run Your Business Without Letting it Run You, on my Kindle. This book is great for any business owner. I have learnt so much from it already and I recommend it to anyone who is dealing with the many stresses of running a business or working for yourself.
This is a book you need to it. Sherry Welling and Rob Welling did a great job with this book. They explain how running a business can ruin your health, finances and even relationships. This book explains how to make sure you run your business without it running you. One of the best parts of this book for me was when Sherry explained how to handle negative feedback from others regarding your business. She mentioned how business owners should always consider the source when it comes to negative feedback. And she is so right.
3 Types of Feedback You Should Ignore as a Blogger
Our job as a blogger is to write. We share our experiences and views on our blogs and social media platforms. This exposes us to critics. Everyone has an opinion and many are not shy to express it. Many of these feedbacks are positive and many can be very negative as well. To be a happy blogger, we need to know the types of feedback to ignore and the types to take on board.
Here are 5 types of feedback you should ignore as a blogger.
Ignore Personal Attacks
Unfortunately people love to hate, especially on successful people or people who appear more successful than them. You need to recognise a troll and ignore personal attacks. The internet exposes to everyone who has an online connection, so we need to have a thick skin if you intend to blog. You should not respond to any personal attack on your person or your blog.
The mute/block button was created for a reason. You should not be afraid to use it. Just because the trolls come for you does not mean you have to entertain them. Delete that rude comment, block that rude person and keeping doing what you are doing.
Ignore negative feedbacks on things that work
If you get negative feedbacks on things that work for you and your blog, you should ignore it. If someone complains about the fact that you started off as a beauty blogger, but you now cover fashion and lifestyle because it works well with your blog, you should ignore that feedback. Not every feedback is good feedback. The person may or may-not be coming from a good place, but you know your blog/business more than anyone else. So you evolving from a beauty blog to a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog, would have been the best decision for you.
You don’t need to keep explaining why you do what you do and you should not change what works best for you. If that person does not like your new varied content, they can skip the blog posts that have no interest in, or skip your blog altogether.
Ignore Vague Feedback
I always ignore vague feedback. If you are going to give me feedback, it has to be constructive and detailed. A vague feedback like “Make it different!”, means you don’t really know what you are talking about. And if you have no clue what I do, you shouldn’t be giving me feedback especially when I didn’t ask you for it.
What types of feedback do you ignore?

I definitely agree about the negative comments. I ignore anything that’s mean spirited in nature and I love construtive criticism because it helps me grow as a writer and blogger. Good article!
Good you are on top of it. Thanks Evelyn.
Good topic Stella and good advice which can be a templates to the outside world. Everyone has an opinion. The www world as you say as made it more prevalent. If you haven’t got boundaries and discernment you will have to find it to network with people on or off the net or you will sink
Glad you like the topic here. Having boundaries is key to survival online and offline. Thanks for reading Carol.
Great article! I’ve just started blogging here on WordPress. I am not blogging to earn money but more as a stress reliever from my hectic investigator job. As a result, I blog about whatever suits my fancy. Today I blogged about beignets, a calming face spritz and a family matter. My blogs will likely become more intellectual with time but I’m just having fun with it for now. My goal is to establish a following by posting primarily book reviews. I like the set up of your site and I am glad you are earning good money doing what you love.
Your day job sounds really interesting. Good luck with the blog.

I’m still relatively new to blogging. I prefer constructive feedback but at the same time my feedback That I avoid is what comes from my family. I tell them my ideas about starting a business and I get negative feedback. Pretty much the reasons why I shouldn’t do it. While it’s discouraging. I’ve learnt to keep my mouth shut to those who oppose me. Not because I don’t want to tell them but because I don’t want to hear their fear based negative response!
Yes best to keep quiet about your plans and just do it. You will learn as you go. Good luck.
Thanks for sharing these tips! 🙂
