Why you should not set up a blog

I see many new blogs popping up this year. This is good and it is not surprising to see many people setting up blogs with the whole lockdown and spending more time indoors. Setting up this blog is one of the best things I have ever done for myself. It gave me a creative outlet and it became a good source of income, which gave me the courage to leave my boring customer service role.

There are so many reasons why you should set up a blog. I have been running Fashion and Style Police for over 8 years now and I can tell you how amazing it is to have my own creative space on the internet. It allows me to work and study from home while juggling the kids. But this post won’t be telling you why you should set up a blog, it will be helping you see why you should not set up a blog.

Here are some reasons why you should not even dream of having a blog –

You don’t like writing

If writing is not your thing, you should not set up a blog. If you stringing sentences together, maybe you should look into other creative outlets like Instagram or YouTube. Blogging means writing. You have to be able to write and you have to enjoy writing. If it feels like a chore, please do not set up a blog. You will fail. Going to different blogs and stealing content is not acceptable. I am sick and tired of reporting blogs for copyright theft. It is exhausting. Please respect copyright and write your own posts or don’t set up a blog.

You don’t have the time

Writing takes time. If real life is really busy and you don’t have the time to dedicate to really running your blog, it may not be a good idea to have one. Running a blog takes time and energy. You will need a few hours every week to update your blog. If you don’t have the time to do this, wait until you do.

You have nothing to write about

You may love writing and be good at it. The time to write may also be available but it is best to decide on what content you would like on your blog before you venture into blogging. It is usually easy for many new bloggers to decide on what they want their blog to be about but for some, it may not be as easy. If you can’t think of what to write, wait until you can before you set up a blog.

You are in it for the money

If you are setting up a blog just to make money, you may be in for a huge surprise. It takes time to grow your blog to the point where brands are interested in paying you to advertise their goods and services. If you are in it for just the money, you will give up after a few months. Blogging is not a get rich scheme at all.

Have a great week everyone 😘

Beauty Muse – Celine Dion

The woman with the most incredible voice; Celine Dion is the Beauty Muse for the month of November 2020! I adore this woman. My teenage years were filled with me singing along with her greatest hits (and I still do that). One of my favourite songs of hers is My Heart Will Go On. That song and the movie Titanic were the center of my love life growing up. Her voice is simply heavenly and her fashion sense gives me so much style inspiration. You can check out her style icon feature here. Celine Dion is also a beauty to behold and she is aging gracefully. I like that she hasn’t had a lot of work done on her face. She looks real and fab, that sometimes I forget she is over 50!

Here are some of Celine Dion’s beauty secrets –

“I like to put a light concealer under the eyes to open my gaze, a little bit of powder to fix it and a touch of a brow pencil to balance my face.”

A light concealer under the eyes opens the eyes even more. Adding some powder and a brow pencil will really balance the face out. These steps are great for when you want to wear your makeup light. I do this on most days now. I just need to find the time to sort my eyebrows out. They are currently in a not so good state.

Dion also swears by a simple skincare routine and no makeup artists. She does her makeup by herself and I was really surprised to discover that. Apparently, she fell in love with applying her own makeup in the early days when she couldn’t afford a makeup artist, and now that she can afford any makeup artist she wants, she still prefers to do her own makeup. She says –

“I just know my own face so well, and I actually really enjoy doing it.”

What do you think of this five-time Grammy award-winning artist as a Beauty Muse? Are you a fan of her music, style, or beauty tips?

5 Extraordinary Ways to Unwind After Work picture

Whatever you do and wherever you work, perpetually feeling busy, stressed out, or just plain bored can affect your wellbeing. If you’ve got a lot of responsibilities, like looking after your family or working in a high-pressure job (or both), it’s easy to lose track and never have a moment to yourself.

Breaking the Cycle

When you’re feeling run down and uninspired, it’s time to implement some extraordinary tactics to break the cycle and beat the mid-week slump. Constantly working late into the night or working on weekends can become draining and negatively affect your health and your relationships, so taking some time out to reconnect with yourself and those around you is incredibly important.

1. Get Out There with Extreme Activities

From go-karting to ax throwing, “extreme” activities can take you out of your comfort zone and give you experiences to remember. Get your friends or work colleagues involved, and do something wild together –– you might just find your new hobby!

Investing in opportunities to go and do new things will create greater happiness and fonder memories than spending money on throwaway purchases. You’ll cherish the memory of doing something fun and exciting, and you’ll be able to relive the experience again and again.

2. Indulge Yourself with Pampering and Relaxation

Get some well-earned “me time” by scheduling some serious self-care. Switch off your phone, close down your computer and put aside your worries –– this is your time. While jumping in the bathtub or diving in the shower can act as a great circuit breaker, why not do something that’ll benefit you in a much deeper way?

Getting a tantric massage can be a mind-blowing experience that’ll reinvigorate your senses and help you connect with yourself –– and someone else. Massages have numerous physical and mental benefits, from relaxing your muscles and improving your skin to increasing your confidence and enhancing positive body image.

3. Reorganise and Reclaim Your Space

Although it might not seem that extraordinary, you’d be surprised at the amazing psychological benefits of whipping your home into shape. Putting time aside to declutter and clean can be incredibly therapeutic, helping you to feel organised and in control of your environment.

Reclaiming your space and clearing out your wardrobe can earn you some extra cash if you sell your unwanted garments online with apps like Depop or eBay. The additional funds might be the difference between taking on that extra shift of taking some more time out to spend with your friends and family. Alternatively, you can give something back to your community by donating your old clothes to charity –– another great and fulfilling practice.

4. Break the Habit and Ditch the Screens

It’s amazing how much time we spend in front of screens. Sinking into the sofa and watching a new series can be a great de-stressor. But, if you’ve been working on your phone, laptop, or any other bright rectangle all day, your eyes will tire, you’ll start to feel worn out and your brain won’t want to switch off.

Ditch the screens, and do something different. Rebel against our modern obsession with technology, and find something else that brings you joy. Cooking a new recipe to nourish your body will have a profound effect on your physical and mental wellbeing while listening to music, reading a good book, or meditating will put you in a different state of mind

5. Try Out Some New Exercise

We get it: it’s cold outside, it’s raining, you don’t quite feel like it — there’s always going to be a reason why you don’t want to exercise. If you’re not a runner or you hate the idea of swimming at your local pool, your options can seem limited, so why not try something new?

There are plenty of online classes available that offer varied and exciting new ways to get your heart pumping. Trying out yoga or pilates classes can rejuvenate your body and inspire you to get moving without getting wet and muddy throughout winter. With so much choice, you’re bound to find the right videos and classes for your level of fitness.

Conclusion: Break the Mould

Whether you’re chasing a promotion or seeking inner peace, you need to find different ways to relax, unwind, and do something other than work. Your body and mind will thank you, and you’ll be able to move forward effectively to achieve your goals. From exercising and decluttering to pampering and meditating, set some time aside to do some extraordinary activities that’ll renew your vitality and give you back your lust for life.
