From a coursework to a blog…

The world of blogging has changed massively in the last few years. It is so different from when I started blogging many years ago, but that should come as no surprise since I have changed as a person over the years. With life comes changes, and the ones who can adapt are the ones who carry on.

From a coursework to a blog…

Fashion and Style Police initially started as a coursework project. I was a student at London College of Style (LCS) in 2012 and was studying the styling course to break into the competitive personal styling industry and part of the course work was to create a fashion and style blog from scratch. I have always been interested in writing and setting up a blog was one of my goals, so naturally I was drawn to this part of the course. The course was mind-bending but enjoyable. I completed the course and stumbled briefly into the world of personal styling, but I quickly realised it was not for me, but blogging was, and I have been at it for almost 12 years now.

The many changes in the blogging world

This blog that started as an assignment quickly began a hobby/creative outlet for me, and now a side gig for me. I enjoy writing, and being able to run Fashion and Style Police all these years has been a dream come through. Having said that, the many changes happening to SEO over the years have changed the blogging experience for me. It has been off-putting, to say the least, but since the passion is still there, the show must go on. My love for blogging keeps me on this platform, against all odds, and so the blog started as coursework, then became a hobby and a creative outlet, then turned to a side gig, then a full-time job, and now back to a side gig.

I won’t change anything in the journey to becoming this version of myself and the blog. The experience has been one of many twists and turns, which all have brought me to where I am today, and I would be forever grateful.

What I am watching on Netflix this Summer

Summer holidays are in full swing here, which means more TV time for me. With a few weeks off Uni, I have some extra time to watch some fab shows on my Netflix list. There are usually loads of options to pick from and it can feel overwhelming to decide what to watch sometimes. This is why I like to have a watch list for every streaming platform ready to pick from when I want to watch something. Here are some of the series I am watching on Netflix.

Supacell

This Netflix series is one of my favourites this summer. I love the cast a lot! They all made this series interesting, and most of them were new faces to me, so it was nice to watch the talented bunch. I also love the storyline. It was easy to follow but with loads of twists and turns. The series is about a group of young Londoners who suddenly discover they have superpowers.

Watch this Supacell on Netflix if you are into supernatural/Sci-Fi content. I am so looking forward to the season 2!

Oloture: The Journey

This is another series I have been watching on Netflix. I have seen all 3 episodes, and they are quite intense but interesting. I am going to watch the movie as well, just to get the background story. That was released some years ago. If you are into Nollywood movies, this series is a good one to watch. It is all about the life of an undercover journalist who gets swallowed into the world of prostitution.

New Amsterdam

I started watching this drama series some weeks ago and it is really good. It is all about a group of doctors in a public hospital in New York, and every episode has a story as well as an ongoing storyline for each doctor. There are 5 seasons on Netflix, and I am just about to round up season 1, so lots to watch. If you are into series like Grey’s Anatomy and ER, you may like New Amsterdam.

What are your thoughts on these Netflix series? Have you seen any of them? What are you currently watching on Netflix?

Over 30s skincare tips – Why we should exfoliate

The skin is supposed to naturally shed dead skin cells every 30 days, but sometimes this natural shedding process doesn’t happen as it should. Which is where exfoliating skincare products come in. Here are some of the main skincare benefits of regular skin exfoliation –

  • Brighter and youthful skin

Exfoliating your skin at least once a week would greatly improve its appearance as the process would increase blood circulation and remove dead skin. Most times, if you use an effective exfoliating skin product, your skin will look brighter and smoother immediately.

  • Fewer breakouts

If you are struggling with breakouts, you may need to exfoliate some more for smoother skin, Exfoliating the skin regularly prevents clogged pores, which leads to fewer breakouts and smoother skin.

  • Absorption of skincare products

Sometimes, the skin does not absorb the skincare products properly, or if it does, it takes a long time to sink in. One way to get around this is to exfoliate regularly as this helps the skin absorb skin products better and then the benefits of the skincare products are really visible, due to a more rejuvenated appearance.

  • Fades age spots and pigmentations

The weekly removal of dead skin cells means the appearance of faded spots and pigmentations would reduce too, and this is super important, especially for those over 30s skin.
