Beauty Blogs I Love Reading

As a beauty blogger, I am forever reading beauty blog posts and I have discovered amazing beauty blogs along the way. Product reviews and makeup tutorials are always interesting especially when I trust the beauty blogger and keen on the products involved. I wrote about fashion blogs I love reading the other day, and I am happy with how the blog post is doing. Good to know many people are interested in finding quality fashion blogs.

Here are some of my current beauty blogs I love reading –

I have been read What Emma Did for many years now, and I love the blog. The beauty category is my favourite part of the blog. What Emma Did is run by Emma, and she covers beauty and a variety of niches. I love her detailed product reviews and makeup/skincare tips. She is also a makeup artist and her makeup always good. Her blog is one of my favourite UK blogs.

You can check out What Emma Did for yourself. It is an amazing blog.

I have been reading Forever Amber since 2012 and I am a huge fan of her writing tone and photography skills. Forever Amber is a lifestyle blog but one of my favourite categories on the blog is the beauty section. I love her product reviews, and I like how honest she is. She is one beauty blogger I completely trust when it comes to product recommendations. Amber definitely knows her stuff when it comes to beauty blogging.

You can check out Forever Amber here for yourself and tell me what you think.

Thou Shalt Not Covet

Thou Shalt Not Covet is another beauty blog I really enjoy reading. I have read this blog for many years now and the quality content keeps me coming back. The blog name was the first thing to catch my attention. It is quite catchy and the content is amazing. I enjoy reading the beauty posts especially the fragrance features. I find them all really interesting.

Why I take daily showers and moisturise my skin everyday

Growing up, taking daily showers and moisturising was the norm. I didn’t know of any other way to keep clean. Later in life, I found out so many other people don’t take daily showers and do not moisturise everyday, and I was like what? I am now used to the fact that not everyone has daily showers. Many people think their skin is more healthy if they skip a shower a day or 2. I disagree with that. No shower means they have no reason to moisturise (their opinion). Some do shower more regularly but see no reason why they should moisturise their skin afterwards. I disagree.

Why I take daily showers

I can’t imagine not taking daily showers. Even when I feel ill, I feel instantly better after a shower/bath. Water has the power like that. It could just be my mindset and my upbringing that has me set in my ways. But I can’t imagine deliberately having showers only a couple of days a week. I think I  will feel very dirty.

The whole idea of daily showers drying out the skin is a myth as far as I know. My skin looks great for a 30 something year old mum of 2. As long as the shower isn’t too warm, and you are not in there for ages, your skin will be fine. I always use natural soaps/bodywash , so nothing too harsh on my skin. And I don’t scrub my skin too hard. Gentle scrubbing with mild bodywash/soap and not too warm shower works great for my skin and my mental health. Also, moisturising your skin immediately after having a shower would help replenish any lost moisture. More on that below.

Why I moisturise my skin everyday

Using the right skincare products for your skin type is also very important. I always make sure I have the right skincare products stocked in my bathroom cabinet for my daily routine. As a beauty blogger, I come across all sorts of skincare/beauty products every week, and I always restock products that work great on my skin. It is very important to moisturise your skin everyday. It keeps your skin hydrated and looking supple. The moisturiser also helps your skin regain any lost moisture from showering.

I always apply my moisturiser immediately after showering. That way my skin can soak in all the goodness.

I know my skincare routine won’t work for everyone but it works great for me. The thought of deliberating skipping daily showers and moisturising makes me itch 😊

Protecting your natural hair during winter

Winter is almost over and I cannot wait for it to end. It feels like the chilly season has gone on forever. I have been rocking my natural hair for some years now and loving it. Sometimes it is a lot harder to manage my hair especially when I don’t have a protective style on for some time but I won’t ever have my hair texturised again. Winter is a very harsh time of the year for the skin and hair, especially when the hair is natural. So it makes sense to think ahead of various ways to protect your hair during winter.

Here are a few tips that you may find useful when it comes to managing your hair during the winter season –

Protective Styles

I like to have my natural hair in protective styles. It allows me have a relaxing haircare routine, and it looks beautiful. The fro is currently out to play as I type but I have booked a session with my hairdresser and will have a protective style done in the next few days.

Protective styles protect the hair from excessive breakage and encourage hair growth, which is what every natural hair woman wants. These styles keep the hair ends concealed by tucking them away. This stops tugging, pulling, and manipulation of the hair. Protective styles vary from cornrows to buns, two-strand twists, and braids.

Moisturise

You need to remember to moisturise your scalp as often as your hair needs. I usually moisturise mine and my daughter’s twice a day and that works great for our hair type. Keeping your hair moisturise is very important, especially in the winter months when the scalp tends to be a bit more dry.

Thanks to my amazing spray bottle,  I use water as our main hair moisturiser, along with some hair oil. This combination helps the hair stay hydrated and moisturised. I am currently loving my Cantu hair leave in conditioner and Cantu Shea Butter Hair and Scalp Oil.

Keep the hair clean

Washing the hair is very important as we all know. I like to pay special attention to my hair wash days in the chilly months. My SheaMoisture shampoo and conditioner help me do just that. I have been using SheaMoisture for many years now and it is one of my favourite haircare brands.

Keep your scalp warm

I always wear a hat when it gets really cold, even when I have a protective style on. It is just an added boost, and it helps protect my scalp from the harsh weather conditions. Wearing a hat in the winter months is a great way to protect your natural hair and scalp. I am happy to have quite a few hats at the ready for when I need it.

How do you keep your hair protected during the winter months?
