Smokey Eye Makeup with LOLA

I was challenged by the lovely people at LOLA Makeup by Pearse to create The Dark Angel also known as smokey eye makeup using makeup products from the new collection of Autumn/Winter Hypnotic. I had an amazing time creating this look. It took me out of my comfort zone, as I usually go for softer eye makeup but I like this smokey eye look. Its is dramatically channelling a futuristic femme fatale, and I am so in love with the look.

To create this Dark Angel Makeup with LOLA Makeup by Pearse, I used Eyeshadows 012 and 019, Highlighter Powder 01, Ultrashine lipstick 034 and Nail Polish 012 Pebbles.

I found the products very easy to use as always. They looked great on my skin as well, which was amazing.

The whole idea of the look was to draw attention to the eyes by going for a metallic shade combines with an ombre lip to create a modern and edgy look.

Here are the swatches of the Highlighter Powder, Ultrashine Lipstick and Eyeshadows.

A little more about the products –

Highlighter Powder

This light-diffusing creamy powder highlighter instantly illuminates and gives skin a a sheer glow that brightens the skin and blends easily into the skin for a light and delicate finish. The sheer glow can finish off any look beautifully.

Eyeshadows

Both eyeshadows are rich and have intense colour coverage. They are perfect for a natural everyday look or to provide a base colour for building, blending, highlighting or contouring. They are dead easy to apply and look fab!

Ultrashine Lipstick

This Ultrashine Lipstick 034 is a high-performance lip gloss compressed into a lipstick format. It has a high gloss effect and a divine wet-shine finish. So it is very light and there is hardly any visible colour on the lips.

Nail Polish

This nail polish has been formulated with Expert Gel III technology which is especially engineered to ensure fluidity, as well as high gloss and resistant wear. It is super easy to apply and dries pretty quickly.

The whole idea behind this Dark Angel look is to draw attention to the eyes, and keep the focus on there.  So I started off with the eyes, once the primer, foundation, and concealer have been applied. I used an angled eye shadow brush to create a dark frame outline with the LOLA Eyeshadow 012. Then I blended in the Eyeshadow 019.

For the lips, I went almost nude with the Ultrashine Lipstick 034, and applied the Pebbles nail polish to my nails.

Product Review – XO Balm & Olverum Bath Oil

I had the pleasure of trying these products – XO Balm & Olverum Bath Oil last week, and I have been loving it. If you have been reading Fashion and Style Police for sometime, you would know how much I enjoy reviewing products, so you don’t have to. That is where these product review posts come in.

Here are my thoughts on both products –

XO Balm

I was eager to try out this XO Balm. The cold season is kind of here now. So it’s all about retaining moisture and protecting the skin from the harsh cold weather.

XO Balm is effective in soothing and relieving dryness, sensitive and irritated skin. This multifunctional beauty solution is used for all areas of the face, body and hair to hydrate and nourish.

XO Balm offers a natural alternative to prescription products for those suffering with severe dry skin, eczema and dermatitis. The natural beauty solution also has many other uses, making it an ideal on-the-go essential.

PROS
  1. I love the compact packaging. It is really pretty. The name – XO Balm, is also cool too.
  2. The fact that it is a multi-functional beauty is a plus. You don’t have to have to take 3 or 4 different products, when you have this Balm.
  3. It is suitable for sensitive skin.
  4. It is preservative-free.
  5. I like the fact that the ingredients used are all natural.

CONS
  1. I found the texture too hard.

Olverum Bath Oil

I love this Olverum Bath Oil. I think it is an amazing bath oil and I would tell you why.

A unique and luxurious aromatic blend of essential oils which combine to ease stress and relax tension in both mind and body, bringing you back to your complete and natural self.

Olverum Bath Oil is highly concentrated and only half a capful (5ml) is needed per bath. Accordingly, virtually all the oil is absorbed by the skin leaving no greasy residue in the bath after use.

Add half a capful to a run warm bath. Disperse the oil with your hand. Relax, restore, renew.

  3. A little goes a long way. A 125ml bottle should be enough for 25 baths.
  4. It left my skin feeling smooth and silky.
  5. I like the fact that it is made from natural essential oils.

How to Get Rid of Oily Skin

Dealing with oily skin can be a struggle for many. Oily skin is one of the causes of breakouts, blemishes and acne flare-ups. If you have been suffering from oily skin, you will know all about how difficult it can be to find the right products for your skin.

What causes your skin to get oily are the sebaceous glands under your skin which produces excess oil. Some people are born with overly productive sebaceous glands, while others get oily skin when there is a skin pH imbalance.

The good news is that you can control the oil production of your skin and consequently all the other harmful effects that go along with it. Here are a few ways you can get rid of oily skin naturally.

Ease up on often you wash your face

Believe it or not, washing your face several times a day can strip your face off its natural oils and this will make your sebaceous glands produce more oil. This is that will make your face extremely oily.

The best way to combat this is to limit the number of times you wash your face. Wash your face only at least twice a day. This will ensure that you do not strip your face of its oil. That way you won’t activate your sebaceous glands into producing more oil.

Cleanse your face with a gentle oil dissolving cleanser

When you have oily skin, not all cleansers will do. You have to choose a cleanser that will be effective enough to remove the excess oil without stripping your face of its natural oils while cleaning your pores of dirt and dust. You also need to have a cleanser that will help balance the pH level of your skin and reduce the oil production.

Although there are a lot of good cleansers out there for oily skin, there are also a good number of natural cleansers you can use straight from the kitchen.

Lemon juice mixed with some water makes a great cleanser. Same with vinegar. Just apply it over your face with a cotton ball and wash off after 10 minutes. It will help you cleanse your skin and regulate the pH level of your skin to reduce oil production.

Use a clay mask

I love my clay masks. They are amazing on the skin. When it comes to oily skin, clay masks help to reduce oil production, making it one of the best skincare treatments for those with oily skin.

Aside from helping you with your oily skin, clay masks also do a great job at cleansing and tightening your pores.

Use the clay mask at least once a week. Apply the clay on your face and leave it until it is completely dry, then wash off with water and pat your face dry.

Make use of oil-free products

No matter how well you try to keep your oily skin in control, if you keep using products that contain a lot of oil, then you are bound to keep dealing with an oily skin. Stick with oil-free products from soaps to creams and even makeup.

Although moisturizers can make your skin oily, staying away from them will not do your skin any good. Instead, chose a light moisturizer that will not be too heavy on your skin, or a moisturizer that mimics your natural oils like shea butter.

Do you have an oily skin? How do you deal with it?
