How to Style your Boyish Figure

Many women do have a boyish figure. And many have no clue how best to style this body shape. You have a boyish figure if your bust and hips are a similar width, with a small bust and no defined waist.

Every body shape is beautiful and you can make the most of by your figure by following these style tips –

Create an illusion of a defined waist

With a boyish figure, there is usually no defined waist. However, you can create an illusion of a was it with a wide belt on a loose blouse and full skirt. It works like magic!

Show the legs off

Most ladies with boyish figures having long slim legs. Make sure you make the most of this gift by showing the legs off as often as possible. Opt for an A-line mini skirt to show off the legs and create an illusion of a waist too!

Avoid high-waisted jeans & wide-legged trousers

Avoid high-waisted jeans and trousers. They eliminate curves and make you look even less curvy. Also stay away from wide-legged trousers/jeans for the same reasons.

Go skinny

Skinny jeans/trousers are the way to go for most body shapes, and it is no different with the boyish shape. They look great on most women when styled properly. When wearing skinny jeans, ensure you wear a different shape on top for the right look. Pairing skinny jeans with a loose-fitting top is a great way to style.

Opt for horizontal stripes

For most body shapes, horizontal stripes do not work but they do for the boyish shape because of the slim upper body. Horizontal stripe pieces help to create an illusion of a bigger bust, which is what a boyish figure needs.

Dressing for your Body Shape this Winter

Dressing for your body shape takes time to slay, regardless of the season. You have to understand the ins and outs of your body shape, in order to dress it properly. Here are three tips you may find handy when dressing for your body shape this winter.

Dressing for your body shape with coats and jackets

It is getting chilly in Cheshire, so the winter jackets will be making appearance soon. When it comes to winter jackets, my advise is to spend a little bit extra so you are sure the winter jacket is a quality piece. You will be wearing a winter jacket every time you step out during winter, so it makes sense to take your time and shop for quality pieces. A wool or cashmere jacket will last year after year.

It is best to avoid boxy styles, as they tend to make you look frumpy  Instead, opt for a winter jacket with a defined waist to suit most body shapes. Also, make sure the coat you go for fits properly. The best way to check the fit is to cross your arms in front of you. If you can do this with ease, then you most likely have the right fit.

Sweaters/Jumpers

Winter fashion is all about layering. The key layering is making sure you have the right layers of clothing in for your body shape so you don’t look bulky. The best way to go about this is to avoid fabrics that are super bulky, and go for streamlined silhouettes instead. This way you can ensure you stay warm under layers and look stylish.

Loose on Tight

Loose on Tight is one fashion tip for all seasons. The key here is to style a loose clothing with a tight piece to nail the chic look. For example, a loose jumper should be paired with skinny jeans to balance out the volume. A sweater dress should be styled with a pair of leggings to get the loose on tight look right.

I have previously written about the different female body shapes some years. It was actually one of the first blog posts I wrote in 2012 when I first started blogging, check it out here. It is an Oldie but a Goldie, it was well received and is still one of the most popular posts on the blog so I decided to write a series of more detailed posts about the different female body shapes.

Today it is all about The Ballerina body shape. This shape is desirable for ballad and it is also meant for fashion, it consists of a tiny waist, small bust, defined toned body, narrow hips and endless legs. Twiggy, Nicole Kidman and Audrey Hepburn are some of the famous ballerina shaped women. Some fashion models also have this shape.

The ballerina shaped woman has the tendency to look boyish so The Fashion Tip is to go for feminine pieces like an A line skirt, a full skirt and similar pieces.

When it comes to any body shape, the idea is to highlight the positives and delete the negatives. Here are the DOs and DONTs for the ballerina shaped woman:

DOs

  1. Play up your body shape with solid colours like black and white.
  2. Wear full skirts and big bold belts to draw attention to your tiny waist.
  3. Opt for outfits that show off your graceful neck.
  4. Opt for feminine pieces like dresses, skirts and so on.

DONTs

  1. Avoid maxi skirts and dresses, they do nothing for your silhouette.
  2. Avoid tight bodycon dresses. You don’t have the curves to fill them.
  3. Avoid clothes with large print, they have the power to drown out your elegant features.
