Style Icon – Naomi Campbell

I have always admired Naomi Campbell. She is a strong black woman and she dresses like the Boss that she is every time she steps out. I think Naomi Campbell is a Style Icon. I have followed her style and career for decades now, and she owns it every time. This stylish beauty is one hell of a super woman.

For those who are not familiar with Style Icon – Naomi Campbell, you must be living under a rock, she is a British model, actress, and singer. The 47-year-old beauty is  one of six models of her generation declared supermodels by the fashion industry.

Who is a Style Icon

Who is a Style Icon? A Style Icon is person who is very fashionable, with a distinct look. Style Icons set the pace in the fashion world. They are fashion leaders everyone wants to emulate.

When I think of Style and Fashion, I think of Naomi Campbell. I think she has an amazing fashion sense. Her personal style from her hair to her footwear is always on point. The world is her runway, and everyday is a fashion show once she steps out.

This woman is style goals for me anyway. I wish I could pull off some of the pieces I see her rocking.

Naomi Campbell does not believe a model should have an off day, even if she is not working. So you won’t catch her dressed in ripped jeans or worn out t-shirts. Campbell is always looking the part of a style muse; she never switches that off. Now this might look like a lot of work for many of us, who can’t be bothered looking all put together all day, everyday. But for this Style Icon, it comes naturally.

Campbell is a 24/7 muse. She never steps out without looking her best. Which means her makeup is always perfectly done, hair expertly styled, and stylish designer pieces styled up.

Secrets Of A Fashionista: What To Pack For A Summer Vacation

It doesn’t matter whether you’re planning your annual all-inclusive getaway to some far-flung exotic destination or whether you are simply heading to a Balearic to escape the winter chill, you need to know what to pack and how to pack it to get the most out of your holiday. Just because your travelling or venturing on a long haul flight doesn’t mean you have to forfeit your fashionista credentials. It simply means you need to think a little more outside of the box to ensure you are able to take all of your desired attire, beauty products and accessories with you. With baggage allowances remaining pretty stringent, there’s no way you can take your entire summer wardrobe alongside your extensive range of makeup and skincare items. Instead, you need to pack light and smart.

Many people now prefer to travel with cabin luggage only. This means you can keep your belongings with you at all times and there’s little risk of your suitcase ending up in Iceland when you’ve travelled to Ibiza. However, this also means your bag is smaller, and you have to be even more efficient with your use of space. Take a look at how you can pack wisely and fashionably for your escape to the sun.

Clothing

It goes without saying that the majority of your packing will be taken up with your choice of attire. The best thing about heading somewhere where the weather is reliably hot, sunny and balmy for extended periods is that you don’t have to take any monster chunky knits or duffle coats that can take up an obscene amount of space in your bag. Instead, you’ll be looking at the lighter linen based pieces. You could choose two or three summer dresses from Anthony’s ladies apparel collection, a few sarongs, light tops and a shawl or long sleeved top for those chillier evenings. These items of clothing will roll effectively ready for you to pack. Rolling instead of folding not only saves space but also prevents creasing meaning that you can land, head to your hotel, check-in and whip on a summer dress without the need to iron beforehand.

If you’re heading off on a fortnight-long jaunt, take enough clothing to last your holiday. With the thinner, lighter fabric clothing that you’ll be taking, you will be surprised just how much you can squeeze into a 40-litre capacity holdall. Put your socks into your shoes and ensure you leave the chunkier items of clothing at home.

For those evenings where you want to dance the night away, or you fancy a trip to a top-notch restaurant to experience a culinary masterpiece, a pair of more formal shoes and a clutch bag to match with your summer dress will ensure you look elegant. Utilising elements of a capsule wardrobe frame of mind when packing for your summer holiday always comes in handy.

Beauty

If you love nothing more than opening your drawers and cupboards full of a wide variety of makeup products each morning to apply the finishing touches to your daily beauty routine, you may have to think again when it comes to taking your kit on holiday. Liquid limits on UK flight dictate you can have only 100ml of each separate liquid you wish to take on holiday in clear containers in cabin luggage. This means you may have to think wisely as to whether you can go without your smoothing serum or anti-ageing cream for a fortnight. Remember, you probably aren’t travelling to a destination where they don’t have shops! Anything you can’t squeeze into your bag, you can locate when you land.

At the very least you should take moisturiser, cleanser, a toner and an exfoliator. With these for essential items, you will still be able to care for your skin while away from home. If you love watersports, taking in the rays on the beach or getting active in the sun, your skin needs protection. Purchase the highest quality sun cream that you can and keep reapplying throughout the day. The integral moisturiser within these lotions will also keep your skin supple and hydrated.

When packing your beauty products, the worst thing that could possibly happen is opening your bag on landing to discover a mini explosion amongst your clothes. To limit the chances of this happening, package your liquids in containers and ensure they are sealed. Package these containers in a well-sealed toiletry bag so that there is that extra insurance layer between the liquids and your clothes.

Camera

If you are a selfie addict and love nothing more than being in every shot of your vacation, then a smartphone may well suffice for your needs. However, if you like to think of yourself as a budding photographer, you might want to consider ditching the Holga and Valencia filters and branching out into a travel DSLR piece of kit. With more manual controls and greater resolutions, you could create the perfect landscape shots, candid close-ups and sophisticated holiday snaps that will enable you to document your memories.

Powerpack

Even if you aren’t venturing to the middle of nowhere and you are planning on staying firmly with civilisation, you should consider packing a powerpack. These nifty bits of kit can charge up your camera battery, smartphone and MP3 player on the go, meaning that if you have forgotten to charge something the night before or if you’re on a mammoth bus tour or train journey, you can still listen to your favourite tunes and take some awesome shots. Being comfortable will make your holiday all that more enjoyable.

If you’re heading to a far-flung destination this summer to catch some rays, take a dip in the sea, enjoy a snorkel or simply relax by a pool, think about how you are going to pack for your holiday. Use this guide as inspiration to ensure you don’t surrender your fashionista credentials when you venture away from home.

Tops That Every Woman Should Have In Her Wardrobe

When it comes to clothing, many of us simply pick up items that catch our eye as and when we see them. We don’t put all too much thought into what we’ll pair the individual items with or how we’ll wear them. This all too often results in wonderful items going to waste, hanging in our wardrobes untouched. Ever wonder why so many of us seem to constantly shop but still have nothing to wear? This is the cause. We do in fact have things to wear but they just don’t gel well with the rest of our look and overall desired aesthetic.

So, it’s time to start curating your wardrobe. This means having a clear out, selling, donating or recycling the items that we get minimal use from and stocking our wardrobe back up with carefully chosen garments that we’ll regularly wear. Let’s start this journey from the top by looking at, well… tops! Here are signature tops that every woman should have in her wardrobe.

Graphic Tees

Plain t-shirts are great, but graphic tees are where you can really make a statement with your outfit. Now, we’re not saying you need to sport t-shirts with cartoon characters or superhero logos on the front. What we are saying is that you can incorporate some cool Wrangler shirts, Levis tees, and social statement t-shirts into your wardrobe to take the emphasis off practical but dull, plain options. Keep an eye out for designs printed on ringer tees in particular. The contrasting colours on the ribbing around the neck and sleeves make for a desirable vintage look!

A Silk Blouse

Now, silk is expensive. This is why we say you only really need one. But with the larger price tag comes an assurance of quality. Not only does it look more expensive and haute couture than cotton or polyester… it feels it too! This staple can be incorporated into a variety of looks. If you have an important meeting coming up, it should be a go-to piece. However, it can also be paired with high-waisted jeans for a sleek, Parisian look, or tucked into a long pleat skirt for a stunning evening outfit.

Batwing

Batwing tops see the fabric from the body of the design taper to the arms, so that if the individual wearing one were to stretch their arms out full length, they would appear to have a silhouette similar to that of a bat in flight. This style originates in the eighties but has proven popular over the years. It’s great for when you want more extended sleeve coverage, but a loose fit around the chest and armpits.

A Kaftan

While Kaftans traditionally reach the floor, many designers are shortening the length and transforming this loose-fitting piece into a top. They come in a wide range of colours, cuts, fabrics, and designs, but the most popular tend to be made from soft, light materials such as chiffon or silk and drape over the shoulders, coming about three-quarters of the way down your arms. They’re great for summer wear when other tops may cling or feel excessively heavy.

Hopefully, these popular styles will get you started on the right foot! Remember you can almost always try garments on before buying, so try them out and see what suits you best!
