It doesn’t matter whether you’re planning your annual all-inclusive getaway to some far-flung exotic destination or whether you are simply heading to a Balearic to escape the winter chill, you need to know what to pack and how to pack it to get the most out of your holiday. Just because your travelling or venturing on a long haul flight doesn’t mean you have to forfeit your fashionista credentials. It simply means you need to think a little more outside of the box to ensure you are able to take all of your desired attire, beauty products and accessories with you. With baggage allowances remaining pretty stringent, there’s no way you can take your entire summer wardrobe alongside your extensive range of makeup and skincare items. Instead, you need to pack light and smart.
Many people now prefer to travel with cabin luggage only. This means you can keep your belongings with you at all times and there’s little risk of your suitcase ending up in Iceland when you’ve travelled to Ibiza. However, this also means your bag is smaller, and you have to be even more efficient with your use of space. Take a look at how you can pack wisely and fashionably for your escape to the sun.
Clothing
It goes without saying that the majority of your packing will be taken up with your choice of attire. The best thing about heading somewhere where the weather is reliably hot, sunny and balmy for extended periods is that you don’t have to take any monster chunky knits or duffle coats that can take up an obscene amount of space in your bag. Instead, you’ll be looking at the lighter linen based pieces. You could choose two or three summer dresses from Anthony’s ladies apparel collection, a few sarongs, light tops and a shawl or long sleeved top for those chillier evenings. These items of clothing will roll effectively ready for you to pack. Rolling instead of folding not only saves space but also prevents creasing meaning that you can land, head to your hotel, check-in and whip on a summer dress without the need to iron beforehand.
If you’re heading off on a fortnight-long jaunt, take enough clothing to last your holiday. With the thinner, lighter fabric clothing that you’ll be taking, you will be surprised just how much you can squeeze into a 40-litre capacity holdall. Put your socks into your shoes and ensure you leave the chunkier items of clothing at home.
For those evenings where you want to dance the night away, or you fancy a trip to a top-notch restaurant to experience a culinary masterpiece, a pair of more formal shoes and a clutch bag to match with your summer dress will ensure you look elegant. Utilising elements of a capsule wardrobe frame of mind when packing for your summer holiday always comes in handy.
Beauty
If you love nothing more than opening your drawers and cupboards full of a wide variety of makeup products each morning to apply the finishing touches to your daily beauty routine, you may have to think again when it comes to taking your kit on holiday. Liquid limits on UK flight dictate you can have only 100ml of each separate liquid you wish to take on holiday in clear containers in cabin luggage. This means you may have to think wisely as to whether you can go without your smoothing serum or anti-ageing cream for a fortnight. Remember, you probably aren’t travelling to a destination where they don’t have shops! Anything you can’t squeeze into your bag, you can locate when you land.
At the very least you should take moisturiser, cleanser, a toner and an exfoliator. With these for essential items, you will still be able to care for your skin while away from home. If you love watersports, taking in the rays on the beach or getting active in the sun, your skin needs protection. Purchase the highest quality sun cream that you can and keep reapplying throughout the day. The integral moisturiser within these lotions will also keep your skin supple and hydrated.
When packing your beauty products, the worst thing that could possibly happen is opening your bag on landing to discover a mini explosion amongst your clothes. To limit the chances of this happening, package your liquids in containers and ensure they are sealed. Package these containers in a well-sealed toiletry bag so that there is that extra insurance layer between the liquids and your clothes.
Camera
If you are a selfie addict and love nothing more than being in every shot of your vacation, then a smartphone may well suffice for your needs. However, if you like to think of yourself as a budding photographer, you might want to consider ditching the Holga and Valencia filters and branching out into a travel DSLR piece of kit. With more manual controls and greater resolutions, you could create the perfect landscape shots, candid close-ups and sophisticated holiday snaps that will enable you to document your memories.
Powerpack
Even if you aren’t venturing to the middle of nowhere and you are planning on staying firmly with civilisation, you should consider packing a powerpack. These nifty bits of kit can charge up your camera battery, smartphone and MP3 player on the go, meaning that if you have forgotten to charge something the night before or if you’re on a mammoth bus tour or train journey, you can still listen to your favourite tunes and take some awesome shots. Being comfortable will make your holiday all that more enjoyable.
If you’re heading to a far-flung destination this summer to catch some rays, take a dip in the sea, enjoy a snorkel or simply relax by a pool, think about how you are going to pack for your holiday. Use this guide as inspiration to ensure you don’t surrender your fashionista credentials when you venture away from home.

Even in the summer, I always make sure to pack a light sweater. It has saved me countless times when taking a nighttime walk on the windy beach or for drinks on a chilly patio!
Ah nice.
This is very nice. Please could you also write a blog like this for guys? Thanks in advance
Thanks Darrell.
Great advice and I always over-pack so I’d never be able to take cabin luggage only lol. It’s also a good idea to take a power pack.
Yes it is. Thanks Sarah.
Great tips here, I am a nightmare when it comes to packing, as I always have to take things for all weathers x
Glad you like the tips xx
A very helpful article indeed. I love to travel and beaches are my favourite destination. I never travel without sunscreens, comfy clothings and power banks are a must for me!
Thanks Aditi.
