Coronavirus ushers in virtual dating

*Collaborative post.

The Coronavirus pandemic has completely changed lives all over the world in the different. From homeschooling the kids and working from home to shopping more online, wearing face coverings, and being socially distant. For those on the dating scene, the changes are even more. Gone are the days of casual hookups. There are lots of new regulations and changes, and the dating scene is heavily affected. Coronavirus has changed the game of casual dating for the unforeseeable future. I wonder if the dating world will ever go back to how it was prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.  With the whole working from home and less time in bars, clubs, parties, and other social gatherings, it may be impossible to meet someone new anytime soon. Which is why I see Coronavirus ushering in virtual dating.

How will the dating scene changed with the COVID-19 pandemic

Here are a few changes I see happening in the dating scene –

More online dating

For the time being, I see the dating scene being more online than offline. There will be more and more single people hooking up online. Dating sites like www.nostringsdating.net will be seeing an increase of signups, for those who want to meet new people regularly, but unable to due to spending more time at home and being socially distant in real life. I can imagine more dating sites implementing video calls to make it easier for long-distance hookups to ‘meet’ safely.

Date slow with video calls

Like I wrote in the popular post, goodbye fast fashion, hello slow fashion, the Coronavirus pandemic will allow singles date slow again. Gone are the days of quick hookups. I can imagine more dating sites implementing video calls to make it easier for long-distance hookups to ‘meet’ safely. The video calling feature will be a great addition to dating sites. It will allow singles video call each other before exchanging numbers. Singles will be able to date from the comfort of their homes and get to really know their prospective partner with no added stress of sex or being intimate in the early days. This feature will eliminate all distractions and allow couples to spend more time talking and take things slow. Which will enable them to figure out whether they are compatible quicker than in real life dating where there are all sorts of distractions.

Less casual sex

With the “date slow” comes less casual sex. Those going on a sex dating site looking for a quick hookup may struggle. With the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, I see fewer people having casual sex in general. Those that will be having sex will be sticking to one partner, which is great. For those singles only affect sex with no strings, 2020 and beyond may be tough for them. With people being socially distant and spending more time at home reflecting, casual sex may be the last thing on many minds.

Are you single or dating? How are you currently finding the dating world? Are you interested in virtual dating or do you prefer meeting people in real life?

Tips for decorating your home for an event

*Collaborative post.

I love playing around with our home decor every now and again. Adding a few new decorative items can easily change the look of an entire space. A good reason to decorate your home is when you have an event coming up. It is always fun decorating the home for an upcoming event. The key to getting the home decor right for an event is to ensure the decor would still work great after the event. There will definitely be some decorative items that would purely be just for the day of the event, but most of the decor should blend in with the existing decoration in the home.

Tips for decorating your home for an event

Here are my 3 top tips for decorating your home for an event –

Have a colour scheme

When it comes to interior decoration, deciding on a colour scheme is the first thing you need to do. Once that is done, you are equipped when you go hunting on decorative items to bring into your home. A colour scheme allows you pick out items that would complement and highlight each other. Once you decide on a colour scheme, you need to ensure you stick to it, and not get carried away when shopping. The right colour scheme will help create the tone and atmosphere for the event you are prepping for.

Pay attention to your furniture

It is likely you will be spending a bit more on furniture, so it makes sense to pay more attention to this area. Wood furniture is always a beauty to behold, and they tend to blend into most living spaces. I am a wood lover and I always admire natural wood for doors and windows. They always add this vintage feel. The furniture you go for should work well for the event you are planning and for life after. It is best to shop around and do some research on the best wood for doors for example, before deciding on the furniture you want.

Let your budget decorate your home

This is such an important tip and that is why it is saved for last. Having a budget is very important. Sticking to the budget is even more important. Drawing up a budget for the interior decoration is the first step while ensuring the budget decorates your home is the last step. A budget guides you, so you know immediately which stores to look at and which to ignore. Shopping on a budget also allows you to make the most of the money you have to spend.

Activities to help you stay on top of your mental health

If 2020 has taught us one thing it is that our health is so important. Health is wealth and our mental health is as important as our physical health. Most times, our mental health leads the way for our physical health to follow, which is why we must pay attention to it to live a fulfilling life. If you are struggling with mental health issues, you should speak to your doctor as soon as possible. It is important to start treating mental health illness as soon as you spot them. Preventing mental health illnesses is easier than treating them, so it is important to stay on top of your mental health. Here are some activities to help you stay on top of your mental health –

Exercise

An easy way of staying on top of your mental and physical health is to exercise regularly. Having a good exercise routine helps a lot. I exercise every morning for about 30 minutes and I have noticed a massive difference in my overall health. You don’t have to exercise for 30 minutes every day to improve your health. I started off exercising for around 15 minutes and I increased it gradually as I went on.

Exercising regularly has a positive effect on anxiety, ADHD, depression, and more. A good exercise routine also improves memory, helps you sleep better, relieves stress, and boosts your overall mood.

Yoga

Our nervous system is directly tied to our mental health, and this is where yoga comes in. Yoga calms and centers the nervous system. It also relieves stress, reduces muscle tension, increases body awareness, and sharpens attention and concentration. Yoga is a self-soothing technique similar to exercising and meditation. It is definitely worth trying especially if you are struggling with your mental health.

Grounding/Earthing

Going for walks and runs definitely help. There’s something about being outdoors that improves the mood instantly. The fresh air and the change of scenery usually calm the mind immediately. An important activity you should try if possible when outdoors is grounding. Grounding or earthing simply means walking barefoot. I did this a lot when I was a kid growing up in Africa, but the older you are, the harder it is to do some of the easiest things. Modern living has changed our lives and some of these changes are not good for our health.

Research has shown that grounding improves sleep, strengthens the immune system, reduces pain and inflammation, regulates the nervous system, and decreases feelings of anxiety and stress, and more. The benefits of grounding are too many to list in this blog post. However, grounding is not the easiest thing to do in the part of the world I live in but I make sure I do this in my garden as frequently as possible.

Mediation

Mediating does wonders for mental health.  I meditate daily and I cannot imagine a life without daily mediation. When meditating to improve mental health, it is important to focus on the root chakra (root energy center). The root center in our body is the base of the spine and that is the center that deals with mental health amongst others. There are loads of guided root chakra meditation videos on YouTube to help you. It is best to playa round with a few until you find the guided meditation that works best for you.

Dancing

Dancing is another activity that instantly improves my mood. I dance every day. It is part of my morning workout session and I love it. It relaxes me, relieves stress, and keeps me fit. Plus, it allows me to enjoy some of my favourite African tracks.

Do you do any of these activities every day? Which is your favourite?
