So You Want To Be A Reputable Journalist?

*Collaborative post.

When you want to become a journalist, it’s safe to say that you’re never really going to want to be any old writer. You want to be successful, well-known, and great at your job too. And more importantly, you want to be reputable. A reputable journalist is famous for being good at their job. Here’s how you can do it.

Learn The Ropes

To start with, you’re going to want to learn the ropes as much as you can – and as quickly as you can. When you graduate from college, get an internship – or even while you’re at college. A summer job would be great too. Even when you get your first job, learning the ropes is important, so that you can begin to establish yourself in the right ways.

Practice Your Craft

But then also, you need to dedicate yourself to this. It’s really not just enough for you to learn in college and then never look at a piece or writing education ever again. The best writers are those that are constantly learning. So make sure that you’re reading leading work, and that you’re practicing your craft constantly too. Practice makes perfect! Never forget that.

Avoid Fake News

Finally, as tempting as it can be to get suckered in by different news articles and sensationalism. But if you know that you want to be a reputable journalist, then you just cannot get sucked in by it all. Instead, you have to make sure that you’re picking out fake news, as seen in the infographic below, and aiming to make your work a lot better. This will make sure that your career is not only successful but rewarding too. Reporting fake news never ends well. Don’t be tempted no matter what.

Dealing with anxiety as a self employed person

*Collaborative post.

Self employment has always been the dream, and I am grateful I am able to live this life especially with my kids being so young. But being self-employed comes with an unstable income. The uncertainty can be very worrying and the worry could lead to serious anxiety if you let it. I have been a mum for over 5 years now, while running my online business by the side and I have picked up many ways of dealing with anxiety as a self-employed person. Here are a few of the ways I combat anxiety.

Save the money

Running your own business means sometimes it rains with money and sometimes it doesn’t. I have always been more of a saver than a spender, so that helped me in this self-employed journey. I always put money away just incase an unexpected bill comes up, or business becomes really slow the next month. Saving the left over money means I don’t worry about paying my bills the next month.

Ageing my money helps me deal with anxiety, and it is one tip I always recommend to business owners. Save that money. It may come in handy in a few months.

Have faith

I don’t really talk about my faith on here because it is not a faith blog, but I believe in God. That faith helps me when anxiety comes knocking. I am a very spiritual person, and my active spiritual life helps me deal with issues that seem impossible.

It may not be your cup of tea but it works great for me. I can’t imagine living a life without my faith in God.

Self care

When you are working for yourself, it may be very hard to take out time for self-care. I have started paying more attention to my mental health and the extra attention helps me stay on top of my self-care, which helps get rid of any anxiety. It could be a nice long walk on a beautiful sunny day, or going for a relaxing massage at the spa, or watching a movie at the cinema.

Self care is very important especially when you are a 1 man team. If you are having issues with your mental health and want to read up more on this, check out this post https://www.betterhelp.com/advice/counseling/councilor-vs-counselor-there-is-a-difference/ for more information on who is best to speak with.

Take your work seriously

I take my work very seriously and I think that helps me get a steady flow of income. I work every free time I get (more than 40 hours a week) and I believe I am the true definition of a hustler. Nowadays I try to take the as much time as I can afford to take off but I am always working. That helps me stay on top of my bills, keeps my mind busy and get rid of any anxiety.

Music helps

Music is good way for me to escape all my problems. It is like food to my soul and I feed on it everyday. I love listening to good music. My Spotify playlists come in very handy. You can easily catch me typing up a post and listening to some cool songs.

How do you deal with anxiety as a self employed person? Do you have any tips to share?

It Pays To Be Productive

It doesn’t matter where you are, what you’re doing, or what you should be doing should we say. It always pays to be productive. If you think about the amount of time that you spend just doing nothing, surely the days would pass by in your mind. Life is all about making the most of every moment, as our grandparents would say. But how many of us actually listen to this advice?

How many of us seize every opportunity, make the most of everything we do, and can honestly say that we’re productive? Pretty much none of us can, which is why we want to write this article. We want to show you what it means to be productive., and how you can ensure that you always are being.

What Even Is Productivity?

So, we want to start with this first. What does it even mean to be productive? Well, let’s first tell you what it means to not be productive. What you’re doing now probably isn’t productive. You’re either at work, and reading this rather than working. Or you’re at home, reading this, and trying to find a way that you can become more productive. Whilst we aren’t trying to remove you from this article, we’re trying to point out that when you’re not doing what you’re supposed to be doing, or procrastinating as it were. \

Productivity is doing the opposite. It’s thinking to yourself, I need to get x amount of things done, and making sure that you get it done. We’re so good at giving ourselves little rewards such as thinking, ‘i’ve just done the washing up, now I deserve to sit down for the rest of the night and do nothing else that I wanted to.’ If you can get out of this mindset, your whole idea of productivity will change, and you will accomplish so much more.

How Could More Of It Benefit Us?

It could benefit you as the more you do, the more you’re able to enrich your life. We’re missing out on so many opportunities because of this procrastination we have spoken about. If you find ways to be more productive, you can actually add time back to your day. If you take out those little reward breaks you’ve been giving yourself, all of your tasks will be done so much earlier, and all of a sudden you actually have free time to do what you want at the end of the day. It will become a revelation for you, so just give it a go!

Why Does It Pay?

The more time you’re able to free up for yourself, the more you’re going to experience life. For one, your mind won’t feel as clogged with all the tasks that you have to do, and you can start thinking about things you actually want to do. It could be getting back in to reading, going to the gym, or just generally being a more involved person in life if that makes sense. If you’re self employed and learn to manage your time more, then you’ll definitely get paid more.
