OOTD: Birthday in Milan

As you should all know by now, I turned 30 last week Saturday, and I spent the weekend in Milan. It was an amazing trip. I had fun exploring the beautiful city. There was a lot to see, especially the shops. We popped into all the lovely luxury stores – Gucci, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Mercedes-Benz, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo and the likes. I wish I had an unlimited budget, I would have bought all the bags and shoes in the stores. I did get a few things, I just wish I got more.

I took these photos on my birthday. I got the pieces just before the trip, and I like how the outfit turned out. I love wearing jumper dresses in the winter because they are warm and cosy, and also very easy to style, all I need is a pair of tights to bring it to life.

Jumper desses are also very multi-tasking, they can be worn in the warmer months without tights. I have recently fallen in love with the style, and I have quite a few in my wardrobe now.

The shoes are new as well, a gift and I love the over the top bow on it. It stands out and many people seem to like the design. I love it!

We took the pictures below at Duomo di Milano. If you have been there before, you would know how busy the place is. We got a couple of pictures taken in the midst of the birds and chaos. I didn’t like the location much, the birds were a little too many for me, and there were people everywhere -a proper tourist spot.

That is my lovely big sister. She has appeared on the blog twice before as a Fashion Diva and she was with us over in Milan. We were up to no good half the time, lol.

Speaking of Fashion Divas, I need to bring that series back to life. What say you? So get in touch if you are a fashion blogger or lover, and want to feature your style on Fashion and Style Police.

The birds were everywhere  I was worried I would step on them.

Or they would step on me. Or perch on me. I was trying to get some cover from my Sis here, lol.

It was a fun trip, and I can’t wait to go back. I will just avoid the birds in Duomo next time.

How to Rock the Oversized Clothing Trend

Who would have thought oversized clothing would be so stylish today? Baggy clothes have been creating waves and many people especially celebrities have been using this ensemble as a trendy fashion statement. I have fallen in love with the oversized trend myself. I featured it some days ago, and I have been wearing quite a few oversized pieces in the last couple of days. So I decided to write up a post with tips on how to rock the oversized trend, so here is it.

Like every outfit, there is a right and wrong way to styling oversized clothing. The key to rocking oversized outfits is to strive to achieve a balance. Keeping baggy clothing to proportion is what will make you look stylish.

Here are simple tips that will help you make oversized outfits work for you.

  1. Baggy top + Fitting bottoms = Perfect match

With every oversized clothing, proportion and balance is key. That is the most important rule when it comes to styling oversized clothes and this equation is a perfect example.

Whenever you’re wearing an oversized or loose top, combine it with well fitted bottoms like skinny jeans or leggings. This gives you a more evened out silhouette.

You can complete this look with a pair of gorgeous looking heels.

  1. Baggy top + Short bottoms = Cute pair

The equation looks like complete opposites as large is competing with short but it still follows the rule on proportion and balance.

Alluring outfits start with contrasting combination. So in this case a baggy T-shirt or oversized sweater with a pair of shorts or short skirt can be a stylish and fun ensemble. However, make sure your shorts or skirt is not too short that it gets lost under your oversized top. That will make you look awkward as it will seem like all you have on is a baggy top. To be safe, always make sure the hem of your shorts or skirt sticks out from underneath.

  1. Baggy top + belt = Flattering Figure

Wearing an oversized top is great to hide areas you are not quite comfortable with, but at the same time it could also hides your assets.

Using a belt can make a big difference and help show off your flattering figure. Place a belt around the middle to flatter your waist and give your top a curvy shape. This simple trick will make your waist look smaller and show off an hour-glass figure.

  1. Fitted top + Baggy bottom = Comfy combo

Oversized styles do not only work for tops. It works for bottoms too. But, as always, balance is key.

A fitted top over baggy bottoms like yoga pants, boyfriend jeans and plaazzo pants keep this rule perfectly. The fitted top keeps you looking slim while the baggy bottoms keep it evened out, thus giving the perfect contrast.

This combination gives the aura of laid back and comfortable.

  1. Oversized jacket + Heels = Tall and Trendy

Oversized also goes to jackets and with an oversized jacket, you can experience a wow effect with this simple tip: add a pair of heels to the mix.

An oversized jacket is actually long, most times going below your waist. This creates a longer torso but when you wear a pair of good-looking heels you get longer legs thus making you look so much taller than you really are.

Choose heels that are the same colour with your bottoms. This will give the illusion that your legs are long. The same works when you wear long trousers that cover your heels.

January Outfits 2017

January has been a month of outfits. I am glad to say I published 4 outfit posts this month. I am so happy I got to post this amount of outfits. I have started the year on style high, and I hope it continues all through the year. I lost my style mojo towards the end of last year, and I won’t want that to happen again.

Here is a quick recap of the outfits incase you missed them –

OOTD: A Beaded Black Dress

This was the first outfit post of the year and it is a great look. Give me a little black dress and heels anyday, and I am good to go.

I love the Next blazer too. I have that for a few years now, and it still looks as good as new.

OOTD: An Arabian Theme Outfit

This outfit took me out of my comfort zone kind of. I usually don’t wear kaftans, think I only have 2 kaftan pieces so far, including this piece. But I wanted one as a Dubai souvenir, and this green beauty caught my eyes. I fell in love with the design immediately.

OOTD: Oversized Jumper Look

I am super in love with this look. I love this Apricot jumper so much. The colour is pretty and fab for the season. And every other piece looks great. It is definitely one of my favourite looks of the month.

OOTD: The Oversized Trend and the Petite Woman

So I saved the best for last. This is my last outfit for the month of January, and it was monochrome all the way. I enjoyed styling this look. It was easy to style and bang on trend too. I love the look a lot.
