How to Shop Vintage

Shopping vintage is now in vogue. I know many people who shop vintage on a monthly basis in search for the next investment piece/accessory.

If you like to shop vintage, you may find these tips useful –

Take your time

Take your time when you go shopping for vintage items. You have to be patient and happy to go through the many rails instead of the next treasure. It is unlikely you would be able to return a vintage item, so take your time, try it on and make sure you are very happy with the item(s).

Go for investment pieces

Go for investment pieces if you can afford to. They stand the test of time, and do not lose their value over the years. I would only shop vintage investment pieces. I don’t see the point in shopping vintage for anything less, except it is a gem.

Go for classics

Go for classic vintage pieces in classic shapes and colours. This way you can get the maximum wear out of the pieces from year to year.

Get the time right

Timing is everything when it comes to many things, and vintage shopping is no exception. The best time to shop vintage is after Christmas and New Year celebrations; and at the end of every season. Getting the time right means you would grab the best vintage items before anyone.

Go for the highest quality

When it comes to vintage, the highest quality is the best to buy. Take a good look at every item before you buy, and aim to go for the highest quality items. Natural fabrics are the best. They hang better, last longer and look great.

Understand vintage language

Understanding the vintage language is very important especially when shopping vintage online. For example “mint condition” means the item is as good as new, while “good condition” means the item is wearable but with flaws. Understanding the vintage lingo would help you get the right picture of the state of the item.

Be careful online

I love shopping online but I am always careful when buying anything that is not from a regular high street or designer brand. I am usually more careful shopping the less popular/independent/marketplace sellers online. So I won’t advise anyone to shop vintage online. I think vintage is best bought in the flesh.

What are your thoughts on vintage shopping? Do you have any tips to share?

Style Icon: Billie Faiers

The stunning Billie Faiers is a Style Icon. I have admired her style and that of her sister – Samantha Faiers, since their TOWIE days, and I still love their fashion sense. I love Billie’s chic fashion sense. She brings her style game on every time, and she hasn’t allowed her current baby bump slow her down at all.

I love going through her snaps on Instagram. I can literally spend the whole day doing that if life lets me. I can see myself wearing almost every piece I see her rocking. I think we have similar taste in fashion. I guess that is why you are reading this post.

But now seriously, it should come as no surprise that Billie Faiers is a style icon. This woman is a confirmed fashion lover with the successful family’s fashion boutique business, her clothing range and her many stylish outfit, she is style goals!

I do miss seeing her on TOWIE. Her style was one of the reasons why I was so into TOWIE. She looks so good in everything!

I wish I could be a fly on the wall of Billie Faiers’ wardrobe, just so I can have a look at her entire collection. She is always rocking some really stylish pieces, and she makes every piece look so cool.

I also like the fact that she mixes regular high street pieces with more expensive designer pieces, and she nails it every time.

Here are some of her style dos and don’ts

Well, I think it’s important for everyone to have their own individual style and look but, most importantly, they should dress for their shape. It’s really important to wear what suits your figure. Don’t wear things that might not be flattering just because they’re fashionable or on trend.

I agree with this style tip. Dress for your figure and not trend.

What do you think of Billie Faiers’ style? Are you a fan?

OOTD: Gucci Birthday Present

I took these photos while holidaying in Milan in January for my birthday. It was a lovely day, we were on our way to the shops when I decided to pose for the camera for Fashion and Style Police.

I got this Gucci GG Marmont Matelasse shoulder bag on my birthday as a present to myself, and I adore it. It is my first Gucci bag and currently the most expensive bag in my collection. I am very happy I have gotten to a point in my life where I can spoil myself every once in a while. I have always admired Gucci bags and always wanted one. So it felt insanely good to grab this beauty. Plus I like the new Gucci logo!

This beauty would be my travel companion. I like to travel with shoulder cross body bags so I have my hands free to grab my toddlers. And so I don’t worry about losing my bag or its contents to pick pockets. Only a crazy person would try to rob a bag across my shoulder, in front of me!

It is also a great accessory for days out, and when I can’t be bothered with my regular big handbags.

Shopping in a Gucci store in Milan felt good. Like all the other luxury shops, the attention you get from the staff is so amazing. The shop was so beautiful and the service I got was great. I felt like a real life princess.

The berry jumper I have on is also new. It was one of my birthday presents. I felt so warm inside it, and I love the unique tie cuff design. It is one of my favourite knit pieces this season.
