Trend 1 – Magical Creature Inflatables

A wealth of magic can be found in the sea, inspiring the first trend in our cool pool floats countdown. Think ethereal mermaids, precious seashells and, dubbed the Unicorn of the Sea, the giant narwhal. Thought to possess supernatural healing powers, the Narwhal’s protruding horn came to be a symbol of true magic. So much so, it is rumoured ancient Kings and Queens would trade gold and jewels to acquire it. If it’s fit for a queen, it’s fit for you too!

Trend 2 – Edible Food Inflatables

Is there any better excuse to purchase your favourite foods in inflatable form? From donuts, to avocado and pizza – each treat provides a unique quality. Prefer an innertube decorated with sprinkles? Choose a doughnut! Do you (and seven other pals) have a pool party to attend? A slice of floating pizza each can provide you with the perfect photo opportunity! More of a dessert person? Why not opt for an ice lolly or chunk of pineapple!

Trend 3 – Classic Romance Inflatables

With a summer of love hot on everyone’s mind, inflatable hearts are an emblematic purchase. Available in the form of a raft or as a jumbo innertube, this romantic inflatable lounger will capture the holiday essence. Likewise, an exquisite diamond ring “floatie” is perhaps the perfect match for loving dreamers, adored fiancés and enamoured newlyweds! Full of sparkle and promise.

Trend 4 – Colourful Kitsch

Colour-lovers, this one is for you! A fashion trend since the 70’s, kitsch is everything that looks excessive, cheap and FABULOUS. Think rainbow, neon bright colours, inflatable martini glasses, gummy bears and glowing flamingos! The latter is the perfect addition to a late-night pool party, with LED flashing flamingo floats summing up everything kitsch is: fun, cute, comical and certain to shine a light on your personality!

Something to bear in mind during your summer holidays:

Advice from the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS), UK:

On average, more than 400 people drown in the UK each year. Nearly 60 of these are children and young people. We believe that most drownings are preventable through good knowledge of water safety in swimming pools. Top tips:

  • Keep young children under constant supervision.
  • Follow the pool rules (don’t dive into the shallow end.)
  • Take time to check the depth, water flow and layout of the pool, especially at leisure pools and holiday resorts.
  • Never enter the water after drinking alcohol.

How to decide on the Facebook Groups that work for you

There are so many Facebook Groups for Online Entrepreneurs. When I say Online Entrepreneurs, I mean anyone running an online business, which includes bloggers and online store owners. When I started Fashion and Style Police in 2012, there were only very few Facebook Groups available for online entrepreneurs. Fast forward to 2018, there are now hundreds if not thousands of groups available on Facebook and other social media platforms, which is great because it means there are groups that suit everyone’s needs.

The fact that there are so many Facebook groups available means it can be tricky to decide which ones to join and which to skip. Here are a few questions you should ask yourself before joining a Facebook group.

Will the Facebook Group be Useful?

What may be useful to Blogger A, may be of no use to Blogger B. So only join Facebook Groups that will be useful to your brand/business. There is no point seeing unnecessary information in your notifications box. There are so many groups available for various niches, countries and businesses, so stick to the ones you will find useful in growing your business/blog. For example, there is no point joining a group that is primarily for Travel Bloggers, if you are a Fashion Blogger. You will be bored in no time, and the readership won’t add any value to your blog.

Does the Timezone Work in your Favour?

There are groups set up all over Facebook in various countries and time zones. There is no point having a group that becomes active when you are asleep, except it is just for information purposes. So do consider the countries of majority of the group members to determine if it is the right group for you. Sometimes, I find it difficult to relate with people on a business level when they are in a different country. Their experiences are usually so different from my experiences .

What are the Admins Like?

I have had issues with a few admins in some groups. I am not a trouble maker but sometimes I find that trouble finds me. The first time I had an issue with an admin was about 2 years ago in the first Facebook Group I joined. Before the issue, I was not 100% happy with group. There were a lot of power drunk admins and cliques going on. It felt pretty much like I was back in high school again.

I was not a new blogger (been blogging for over 3 years when I joined the group), so I had an edge since I was not a new to whole blogging game. I saw a lot of wrong information being passed around and there was so much drama going on. My fall out finally happened with one of the power drunk admins, that felt threatened by me. He felt he was a guru in a particular niche and no one else was allowed to have an opinion on the niche, which I didn’t take lightly. A few words were exchanged and he finally kicked me out of the group which was fine by me 😂 . I was sick and tired of the continuous bickering going on there, so it was good to be kicked out.

My advice to anyone thinking of joining a Facebook Group is to find out how the admins are before you join if possible. So you avoid being in the wrong crowd.

Blogger thieves & how to deal with them image

Are you happy with the rules?

Check the rules and make sure you are happy with them. You can find most group’s rules pinned to the top. So have a read to make sure you are happy with the rules. And ask questions if you are not clear on any. Some group admins make the rules up as they go, which can be frustrating for many but the easiest way to deal with it is to leave if you are not happy with anything.

These are my golden rules for deciding on which Facebook groups to join. I have joined quite a few in the last year and I liked majority of them.

How to Stop Comparing yourself to Others and Embrace your Inner Chic

One of the biggest problems I noticed many people have is that they compare themselves with others. They are so focused on what they don’t have or who they aren’t instead of appreciating what they have or who they are. So how do you stop comparing yourself to others and embrace your inner chic.

You may think it’s not possible to see such a thing happen in the online space or among freelancers but it does. If you’re just starting out as a freelancer, you may feel intimidated by how other successful freelancers or bloggers are doing so much better than you. This leaves you feeling discouraged and you doubt your abilities to be successful.

Comparing yourself with others robs you of your joy as you are constantly dissatisfied with yourself.

There was a time when I felt discouraged and that was because I compared myself with others. Soon I realized that comparing myself with others didn’t serve me so I did all I could to get over that bad habit.

Here are some of the ways I stopped comparing myself to others.

Be grateful

When you’re constantly stuck at comparing yourself with others, you’re actually focusing on all the qualities you don’t like about yourself. You’re focusing on the opportunities you don’t have yet. One of the most effective ways to get over comparing yourself with others is to practice gratitude regularly. When you’re grateful for where you are now or how far you’ve come or the steps you’ve taken so far on your journey, you’ll feel more at peace with yourself. Have a gratitude list. Write out at least 5 things everyday you’re grateful for about yourself and the journey you’re on. This will open your mind to how lucky you are and how much you’ve actually progressed.

Focus on working on yourself

What comparing yourself with others does is to divert your attention from working on yourself to looking at others who are working on themselves. Devote more time to developing yourself, working on your dreams and passions. Focus on achieving your goals. The more work you put into yourself the closer you get to living the life of your dreams.

You need to realize that achieving your goals is totally up to you. It is within your reach. Comparing yourself with another person will not get you to your destination. When you put in the work you will see the results reflect in your life.

Accept your awesome self and stop comparing yourself with others

You may not be living the life you dreamt of living. You may not have what you dreamt of having. But that does not take away the fact that you are awesome regardless of your current position.

Be honest with yourself. You have amazing gifts and talents. You are unique. Those are things to appreciate about yourself.

Be conscious of your awesomeness. You are on a journey and you are doing your best to be who you desire to be. Make peace with yourself and don’t resent where you are now.
