5 Storage Hacks You Need to Know

It’s a challenge to arrange your things in your apartment without making the rooms looking more cramped and visually unappealing. If you have small rooms, you’ll know that storage is a big problem.

When you’re pressed for space, you have to get creative with creating storage units in your home. And I don’t mean having drab or boring-looking shelves or boxes. I mean storage spaces that will make your home look appealing and save you a lot of space.

I did some research and tried out some storage hacks and they worked great in my home. It certainly gave my home a new feel and I was able to get all the clutter out of the way. I now have more space and I get compliments on the additions I made to the rooms. So, here I am with some storage hacks you can try.

  1. Create window seats

There’s a lot of unused space in the window area. Take the opportunity to turn that free space to another storage area where you can keep your things. It’s a good option to put in a small cabinet but you can make that storage space serve dual purpose as a window seat.

A good way to go about this is to have sturdy shelves and put comfy foam or pillows that will serve as a great place to sit and enjoy the view outside.

  1. Put up floating shelves

Floating shelves can be a very smart addition to your room. They create room to keep some of your things. Since we’re not only interested in creating storage space, you can take advantage of the aesthetically pleasing floating shelves.

There so many floating shelves that come in different shapes and sizes. You can use candles, figurines and flowers to decorate the floating shelves.

  1. Make use of the high ceilings by installing shelves

Take advantage of the high ceilings in your home. That space creates ample room to install shelves you can use to increase your storage space. Although the shelves seem too high to reach, you can invest some money into buying a cute-looking ladder that will help you reach the shelves at the top.

You can get really creative with shelves by putting up decorative items and even little plants to add a dash of colour to the room.

  1. Optimize your headboard for storage

This is where you can get really creative. Remember the boring headboard? You can turn it into something more functional such that it adds some storage space. Furniture companies were able to device headboards that come with storage units attached.

However, if want to go all DIY, you can put shelves where your headboard should be. You can also fix in hooks to hang some of your things. Another great idea is to place a large corkboard where you can pin all your jewelry. It’s a nifty place to keep your earrings and necklaces in one place and it looks colourful too.

  1. Install storage units under your bed

When you look under your bed, there is plenty of space to store your things. You can add some drawers under your bed. Another alternative is getting baskets or large boxy containers you can keep things in.

Some people don’t have that much space under their bed because the bed is very close to the floor. To create more space, raise your bed a little higher to create room for storage space.

The Kiddies Want A Dog

I have previously written about the kiddies wanting a pet. They have wanted a pet for as long as I can remember, and they have finally decided it is a dog they want. I have never had a pet in my life. Growing up, my pets were my teddies and dolls, so the idea of children having a pet is all new to me.  I am not completely against the kids having a dog, but I still think they are too young to understand the responsibility of having a dog or any kind of pet.

Just so you get the right picture, my daughter loves dogs because she thinks they are so cute. And my son loves dogs because they bark 😃

Since I am going to take the backseat when it comes to caring for this pet, they have to be ready to the handle the basics. Which means we are going to have to wait a few more years. While we are waiting for the years to go by, I have been shopping around for some dog essentials for when we do get one. I believe if you are going to have a dog or any other pet, you should provide a great home for it. Which is why I was happy to stumble upon the Raised by Humans website. This brand has some of the most colourful dog beds I have ever seen.

Metric Mattress Dog Bed £55

This designer dog bed by Raised by Humans would definitely add a splash of colour to our living room. It looks very comfy and I love the bright colours on it. I also like the fact that the cover is removable and machine washable.

This Metric Designer Doughnut Dog Bed also looks very comfortable. It also has an easy to clean cover made from 100% polyester. I love the design a lot.

Good to have pet brands like Raised by Humans think outside the box when it comes to designing. Most pet brands sacrifice design for convenience, but not RBH. Their fresh take on design sets them apart from the rest of the pet brands that primarily have monochrome and tartan designs, which can be a bit of a bore. A splash of colour is good when it comes to home decor and I think dog beds also serve as home decor as they are part of the furniture as well as an essential for the dog.

Having a colourful well designed dog bed is great for the dog and the home. It adds some fun, character and colour to the interior decor, which is amazing. I also like the memory foam technology, waterproofing features of Raised by Humans dog beds.

3 Netflix Series I am Currently Watching

*Collaborative post.

I hardly find the time to watch TV, but I make time for good Netflix series I enjoy watching. I am a HUGE fan of Netflix. We have been subscribers for more than 7 years now, and it is one subscription, I don’t ever see myself cancelling. I enjoy the fact that I can binge-watch my favourite series when I am in the mood to do so. It is good to know entertainment is always there when I need it.

The kids enjoy watching Netflix too. They have their own favourite shows they enjoy watching. I will be sharing their own shows in their words in another post. If you struggle with your internet connection, you could try VPN that works with Netflix for a better service.

3 Netflix Shows I am Currently Watching
Call the Midwife

I have heard a lot about Call the Midwife on Twitter, so I decided to see what the hype was all about, and I am glad I did. I am hooked! It is a drama series with a moving, funny, colorful look at midwifery and family in 1950s East End London.

I am currently watching season 3, episode 2 and I am finding it so interesting. My favourite part is when the women pop the babies out. The endless supply of newborn babies surprises me. They are so cute.

I am also enjoying learning more about the history of the health care system and all. Abortion was once illegal and contraception was once not covered on the NHS. Imagine that!

Peaky Blinders

I have allowed just finished Peaky Binders after hearing a lot about it. It is a British television action crime drama set in 1920s Birmingham, England in the aftermath of World War 1.

I really enjoyed binge-watching this series on Netflix. As a huge fan of Cillian Murphy, aka Tommy Shelby, I knew Peaky Blinders was going to be fun to watch. You have to have a bit of a sense of humour to enjoy it though. It is one of those series you either love or hate, and I love it.

Underground

This is definitely the best series I have seen on Netflix this year. I love the amazing cast and the story of Underground. I have seen the 2 seasons on Netflix and patiently waiting for more seasons to be uploaded.

Underground is an American television period drama series created by Misha Green and Joe Pokaski about the Underground Railroad in Antebellum Georgia. The story is about how a group of slaves make a daring escape from a Georgia plantation in 1857 and undertake an epic 600-mile trek northward to freedom.

If you must watch something new today on Netflix, you should watch Underground.
