Freelance work allows me to work and study from home. It also allowed me to homeschool the kiddies these last few months. A few years ago, I was stuck in a job I hated and dreamt of being able to work for myself from home. Freelancing has allowed me to break out of that job and pursue my dreams. It has completely changed my life and I am forever grateful to be able to do what I do, how I do it.

Freelance work is a flexible sort of self-employment job that allows you to provide a service to a variety of clients. I get to work with all sorts of businesses all over the world and I have met some incredible people along the way. My freelance work allows me to work on small and big projects, both short term and long term, depending on the project.

You can do almost any job freelance. I handle copywriting, blogger outreach, blog coaching, and social media management for many businesses. Other jobs you could carry out on a freelance basis are –

These days the majority of my jobs find me thanks to my blog and existing connections. However, if you are just starting out, Upwork, Freelancer, and Peopleperhour are great sites to check out.

The beauty of being a freelancer is you get to set your own rates. You can decide to be paid hourly or set up a fixed rate. The choice is yours. It is best to do some research and find out what other freelancers in your niche charge. That way you make sure you set realistic rates.

For you to be a successful freelancer, you need to have the skills required for your niche. So to be a successful copywiter, you need to be a great writer. You also need to be self-motivated and organised to succeed as a freelancer. The beauty of freelancing is you are your own boss, and that means there is no one to remind you to get your work done. Writers Weekly is an excellent resource where you can find plenty of content related to building up your writing career. The site accepts articles about the craft of writing. Having said that, these cannot be common topics about blogging tips, etc. (the site has already produced enough of this kind of content). If you have recently been made redundant, the chances are that you are feeling a little low. Losing your job, even if it is through no fault of your own, can be demoralising. You want to be valued, show your impact and feel like you are an expert at what you do. Just because you have been made redundant doesn’t mean that you aren’t good at your job; it simply means that the company you had been working for can no longer keep you on for financial or political reasons. If you have been made redundant recently, don’t see it as a negative thing. While not a personal choice and the timing may be a little crummy, you can see redundancy as an opportunity to embark on something new with your professional life. Career Switch

Don’t think that you have to launch yourself head first into an array of job applications in a rush to get a new position. The chances are that you received some sort of payout to help cushion the redundancy blow. This should give you some much needed breathing space to focus on what you might want to do next. Losing your job can give you sleepless nights and make you worry about the future. However, before launching yourself into a new position immediately and making the wrong professional choice and being unhappy, you should take a breather. Reflecting is vital to help you recharge your batteries and focus on what is important to you.

You might want to take the opportunity to focus on a passion in an effort to turn it into a career.
