Style is a combination of so many components that you can work it in whatever way you want. But when you are turning your attention to accessories, it’s about making sure that each accessory is one part of the complete picture. Whether it’s hair accessories or handbags, or even making sure that your makeup highlights your attributes properly, the art of choosing the right accessories is not as easy as you think. With this in mind, what does it take to choose the right accessories?

Pick a Signature Accessory

The first thing to state is that signature accessories make you feel great and will work with multiple outfits. Accessory options can be overwhelming, but this is why you need to start with one item that you have complete faith in. A watch is such a simple accessory but can communicate so much, especially when you look at luxury brands. You can very easily shop luxury women’s watches and find the right style for you. When you’re ready to add more accessories, you can create balance by choosing one statement piece which dominates your look. You can either do this in terms of colour or size, but then you can start to add more subtle additions.

Think About What What Your Fashion Choices Demand

Accessories provide accentuation. And they’re just as important for both women and men. A nice black cuff bracelet for instance, can add style to a man’s look. A simple outfit that is bereft of colour doesn’t look great, but using accessories to add some colour or patterns to a style can make your look far more elevated. Accessories are fantastic in this way. And when you start to think about the outfit choices and what the right accessory could do to it, you can use accessories to change the entire feel of something that you wear on many different occasions. For example, the classic little black dress is perfect for work when you pair them up with flats and a blazer. But you can then change into a pair of letters and add some bling earrings for a cocktail party or a night out. The right accessories will automatically transform the feel of one simple item of clothing.

Don’t Worry About Getting It Perfect

You may agonize over your accessories, and think that the accessories have to match. But it’s important to remember that when you choose accessories that go together, they may not scream fashionable. If you feel that you are going too far with your accessory choices, start simple. And one colourful accessory to your neutral outfit. But then get inspiration by bold combinations of colour. You can look at any boards on Pinterest for inspiration, or you can use a colour wheel. A very simple thing, but it can show you how to make your look perfectly controlled without going over the top.

Accessories are fantastic for adding extra depth to your style. They are the finishing touches, but when you feel that your style needs a shakeup, or you don’t know where to begin, focus on these three rules, and we can guarantee you won’t go far wrong!

How to take care of hair edges

The hair edges are the most fragile part of our hair. They frame the face but break so easily, this is why it is really important to protect them. It takes time to get the hair edges looking healthy but once you start giving it some attention, it blossoms. Here are some ways to help take care of your hair edges:

Do not use heat

I haven’t used heat on my hair in years and my hair thanks me for it. If you want to grow your edges back, one way to do this is to stop using heat. The hair edges are the most fragile part of your hair. If you want to take good care of them, you should apply no heat to your hair edges.

Deep condition your hair

Deep conditioning your hair regularly is a great way to grow your hair (and the edges). You can deep condition your hair twice a month or as often as your hair needs. This will help keep your hair strong and healthy.

Moisturise the hair edges

It is important to moisturise your hair on a daily basis. The hair edges are the most vulnerable part of the hair so they need extra moisture. I moisturise my entire hair with natural coconut oils and focus a bit more on the edges.

Protect your hair while you sleep

Now this tip is a big one for many of us because our fragile hair edges could get damaged while we sleep. I always wrap my hair in a silk scarf and bonnet for extra protection before I sleep. I make sure I tie the scarf on my forehead and not on the edges to avoid friction. Also, I sleep on silk pillowcases.

Ease off on wigs and protective hair styles

Sometimes it is important to give the hair a break from protective hairstyles and wigs. Just letting the hair be in a loose hair style is a great way to nourish and protect the hair edges. Also, when you do decide to put your hair in a protective style, you can leave out the hair edges to preserve them.

Charity of the month – ActionAid UK

The charity I am supporting this month is ActionAid UK. This charity is focused on the rights of women and girls. ActionAid’s vision is a world without poverty and injustice, in which every person enjoys their right to a life of dignity. One of the biggest causes of poverty in the world is the denial of women’s and girls’ rights, so it is refreshing to find a charity focusing on these issues to help elevate poverty.

ActionAid UK deals with violence against women and girls, women’s economic empowerment, and women’s and girls’ rights in humanitarian crises. Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is a fundamental human rights violation. It affects around one in three women and girls around the world and is a major cause of concern. One of the ways of reducing this trend of violence is by helping women earn a sustainable living. An empowered woman is a strong woman, which is why I am happy to see women’s economic empowerment at the top of the list of what ActionAid UK is all about.
