Social Media Tips – Instagram is for art and creativity

The first mistake I made as a blogger was treating every social media platform the same way. It took me years to understand how each one works, and how I had to use them differently. I wrote a few weeks ago about how Twitter is mainly for chit-chat and networking. It took me ages to figure that bit out and it took me even longer to fully understand the ever changing world of Instagram. Instagram is not my favourite social media platform but it has grown on me. It is one of the trickiest social media platforms at the moment and one of the hardest to grow, which is why many influencers find it super frustrating.

I made so many mistakes in the early days of being on Instagram and I am still learning how best to use the platform. It is not quite as straightforward as Twitter. The ever changing algorithms make it more difficult to find the right technique to grow your account, which is why many  users end up using bots to increase their engagement and following. However, this is not recommended.

Instagram is a social media platform to showcase art and creativity. It is all about pretty photos, videos and catchy captions! Here are 5 tips you may find useful in making the most of your Instagram –

Treat it as a standalone

Instagram is a standalone kind of platform. It doesn’t allow you include links in your photos/videos like other platforms, so you don’t get much blog referrals from it. The best way to handle Instagram is to use it differently from how you use other social media platforms, and not to promote every single blog post on it. The users of Instagram don’t want to be redirected to another platform. They want to stand on it, and Instagram has created the app to do just that. Trying to send your followers anywhere else won’t work.

My approach to instagram is very different now from how it was years ago. I don’t promote every blog post on it, only a few. I hardly even talk about my blog on there these days. I just share photos with captions that work. My blog link is in my bio so it is clear I have a blog, but I don’t try to drive every engagement I get over to the blog anymore.

Use the Instagram Stories

Another way of making the most of your Instagram account is by putting up stories. This is  something I only started doing regularly and I can see the results already. My engagement rate has increased massively so I know Instagram likes when you use the stories feature. I now put on stories everyday and my views keep increasing tremendously. So start putting up daily stories if you want your account to grow.

Spend money on Instagram Ads

Now I know many people would not want to put spend money promoting their posts on Instagram, but if you want some form of growth, another way is to spend money on Instagram ads. I do this quite regularly and it has helped. The trick to this is to make sure the post you are promoting is worth the amount you are spending. I also spend the minimum amount I can most of the time and I am happy with the results I get.

Have an interesting bio

Since Instagram is all about art and creativity, it makes sense to be as creative as you can with your bio. Anyone who visit your page should know what you are all about just by reading your bio. You have a limited word count to use in your bio, so make every word count.

Use hashtags

Using the right hashtags can introduce your page to a new audience every time you post. I like to keep my hashtags to 30 or under and I use relevant hashtags with less than a million posts most of the time. It works but I won’t say it works massively. I do get an average of an extra 50 – 80 likes when I use the right hashtags.

Why many blogs will fail in 2019

Blogging is very popular right now. Everyone I meet now knows what a blog is unlike when I started blogging in 2012. Many people had no clue what blogging was about then. There are now more blogs that ever before, which is a good thing. I like that blogging is now really popular now. It means there are a lot more blogs to read and people kind of know what you mean when you tell you blog for a living. However, because it has become so popular, there are now all kinds of blogs on the big wide web. And some of these blogs will fail in 2019.

Why many blogs will fail in 2019

Now blogging is a personal journey for every blogger. We all can’t and shouldn’t blog the same way. Variety is the spice of life which is why I like to do me on here. I am unable to cope being someone else so you will always only read blog posts I want to publish and nothing else. As personal as journey is, there are still some truths that apply to every blog and blogger regardless of your niche or where you based. Which is why you are reading this post.

Here are some of the reasons why I believe many blogs will fail in 2019.

The Lazy Bloggers

Blogging is a lot of work. It takes a lot of time and effort to grow your blog to the point where you start getting a decent amount of traffic (10,000+). This doesn’t happen overnight and it takes a lot to get your blog to the point where you can start attracting brands to spend money advertising their products and services on your blog. Many of the blogs (especially the new ones) underestimate the amount of hard work required and are shocked to see they are not an overnight success when they start blogging. If they could see the amount of work needed to have a successful blog, they may have decided to pursue something else.

Having a successful blog means you are putting in all the hours you can manage into growing your little corner on the internet. Bloggers that can’t put in the work will fail in 2019 because there are just too many options.

The Outright Copycats

I have had my fair share of dealing with copycats but I still find every encounter annoying. I had to deal with yet another blog thief some days ago and it was really frustrating. The blogger copied an entire blog post twice on his blog and refused to take it down. I had to get the host involved and his blog was eventually shut down. I know it is just a matter of time before I come across another blog thief.

If you have to browse the web in search of blog posts to copy, you will fail in 2019. It is best you find a copywriter to write articles for your blog if you desperately want to have one but can’t write.

Blogging Like Everyone Else

You have to stand out from the saturated world of blogging to make it. There is no need trying to be like another blogger. Regardless of how you think you life is, you always have something to bring to the table. It could be your unique writing voice, photography, amazing makeup or hair advice, fashion and style tips, money saving information, parenting advice, you name it, I bet someone would like to hear what you think. You trying to blog like the “popular blogs” you read would do your own blog no favours. There can only be one you, that is your selling point, so use it.

Blogs that copy other blogs in a subtle way will fail in 2019.

Not Promoting

You should be your biggest cheerleader, regardless of the sort of blog you have. I see many bloggers writing and writing post after post but not promoting. You need to drive as much traffic as you can to your blog. The easiest way to do this is by making sure each post is SEO worthy. That way  it appears on search engines easily. Another way is by promoting on social media platforms to drive more eyeballs to your blog. For me, I get my traffic from search engines than social media, so I guess my SEO game is tight, but I also promote as much as I can on social media platforms to get more eyeballs. There is never anything like too much traffic.

Blogs that don’t their blog posts will fail in 2019.

These are just some of the type of blogs that I believe will fail in 2019. There is no room for mediocre in the saturated world of blogging. If you want to stand out for the right reasons, you have to put in the world, bring your originality to your blog and focus of creating unique content that would inform, educate or entertain your readers.

Earn money from your blog & be your own boss

I have been blogging for almost 7 years now and it has been a learning journey for me. My inbox is usually filled up with emails from new bloggers asking blogging related questions. Which is why I have decided to go down the blog coach route. That way I can help more bloggers grow their blogs and they can start to earn a good income from their work. There is nothing like being your own boss. It is an amazing feeling. Especially when you love what you do, and you are good at it.

Blogging is the best career path for me. It is one of the best things I ever did, and I am forever grateful to the internet for giving me the power to work from anywhere and make money doing what I love.

Earn money from your blog & be your own boss

The blog coach service I offer is a side gig alongside my blog (which is my main job). Many wonder how bloggers are able to make enough money to blog full time with no other “out of the house” jobs. Well, I can open your eyes to how this can be done because I do it and I have done so for over 5 years now.

After giving birth to my twins, I didn’t go back to my customer service job. It was a soul-destroying job and I am glad I had a good enough blog to start making some money from. If not, I would have gone back to that job or something similar and I won’t feel as happy and as fulfilled as I feel now. That empty feeling, I used to get when going to work every day is no longer there. I feel in control and ready to take on the world every time I start working and I love it.

I enjoy offering my blog coaching service. There is a lot to take in when it comes to blogging and social media, and I feel this kind of service is what every new blogger needs. I would have jumped at the chance of an experienced blogger coaching me in my early days of blogging. That would have made my journey a lot easier. I won’t have made the many mistakes I made and my climb to the spot where I am at would have been quicker and stress-free.
