The Allure of Vintage Footwear

Vintage shoes are more than just accessories; they are stories wrapped in leather, fabric, and craftsmanship. These styles bring with them a sense of nostalgia and an air of timeless elegance. From the flapper days of the Roaring Twenties to the bold and vibrant patterns of the sixties, each era has contributed unique styles that continue to captivate fashion enthusiasts today.

Mary Janes: The Quintessential Classic

The Mary Jane shoe, characterised by its rounded toe and distinctive strap across the instep, has been a beloved choice since the early 20th Century. Initially popularised by children’s fashion, this style soon found its way into adult wardrobes. Today, Mary Janes are back, gracing the feet of fashionistas who appreciate their blend of girlish charm and sophisticated style. Modern iterations often feature chunky heels or sleek, minimalist designs, making them perfect for both casual and formal occasions.

The Return of Retro Sneakers

Sneakers from the seventies and eighties are making a significant comeback, appealing to those who love a mix of comfort and retro flair. Think classic brands like Adidas, Nike, and Puma, with their iconic designs and colorways. These retro sneakers are not just for the gym anymore; they are being paired with everything from jeans to dresses, proving that athleisure is here to stay.

Platform Shoes: A Seventies Sensation

Platforms are striding back into the spotlight, bringing with them the bold, statement-making essence of the seventies. These shoes, with their thick soles and high stature, add height and drama to any outfit. Modern platform shoes are available in a variety of styles, from sandals to boots, offering a retro touch with a contemporary twist.

The Timeless Appeal of Loafers

Loafers, particularly women’s loafers, have experienced a resurgence in popularity. Known for their versatility and comfort, loafers are perfect for both casual and professional settings. This style, which originated as a casual shoe in the 1930s, has evolved over the decades. Today, they are available in an array of materials and designs, from classic leather to embellished versions, making them a must-have in any modern wardrobe.

Kitten Heels: Subtle Sophistication

Kitten heels are another vintage trend making a graceful return. Popularised in the fifties and sixties, these low, delicate heels offer a chic alternative to higher stilettos. Perfect for all-day wear, kitten heels are ideal for those who seek a touch of elegance without sacrificing comfort. Their subtle height and classic silhouette make them suitable for various occasions, from office meetings to evening events.

Why Vintage Trends Endure

The resurgence of vintage shoe trends can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, there’s a growing appreciation for sustainable fashion. By investing in timeless pieces that transcend seasonal fads, consumers are making more environmentally conscious choices. Secondly, vintage styles often carry a sense of individuality and uniqueness, allowing wearers to stand out in a world of fast fashion. Lastly, these classic designs have an inherent quality and craftsmanship that modern styles sometimes lack, making them a worthy addition to any shoe collection.

Embrace the Retro Revival

Incorporating vintage shoes into your wardrobe is an exciting way to express your personal style while paying homage to fashion history. Whether you’re stepping out in Mary Janes, making a statement with platform shoes, or enjoying the comfort of women’s loafers, there’s a vintage-inspired shoe for every occasion. So, dust off those old favourites or invest in new iterations of classic designs, and embrace the retro revival with every step you take.

Fashion is ever-evolving, but the charm of vintage styles endures. By revisiting and reinventing these timeless trends, we not only celebrate the past but also create a fashionable future.

From a coursework to a blog…

The world of blogging has changed massively in the last few years. It is so different from when I started blogging many years ago, but that should come as no surprise since I have changed as a person over the years. With life comes changes, and the ones who can adapt are the ones who carry on.

From a coursework to a blog…

Fashion and Style Police initially started as a coursework project. I was a student at London College of Style (LCS) in 2012 and was studying the styling course to break into the competitive personal styling industry and part of the course work was to create a fashion and style blog from scratch. I have always been interested in writing and setting up a blog was one of my goals, so naturally I was drawn to this part of the course. The course was mind-bending but enjoyable. I completed the course and stumbled briefly into the world of personal styling, but I quickly realised it was not for me, but blogging was, and I have been at it for almost 12 years now.

The many changes in the blogging world

This blog that started as an assignment quickly began a hobby/creative outlet for me, and now a side gig for me. I enjoy writing, and being able to run Fashion and Style Police all these years has been a dream come through. Having said that, the many changes happening to SEO over the years have changed the blogging experience for me. It has been off-putting, to say the least, but since the passion is still there, the show must go on. My love for blogging keeps me on this platform, against all odds, and so the blog started as coursework, then became a hobby and a creative outlet, then turned to a side gig, then a full-time job, and now back to a side gig.

I won’t change anything in the journey to becoming this version of myself and the blog. The experience has been one of many twists and turns, which all have brought me to where I am today, and I would be forever grateful.

Do you have a blog or a different creative outlet? What led to you creating this space? Please share your story in the comments section, let’s chat! You never know but your story may inspire someone today.

What I am watching on Netflix this Summer

Summer holidays are in full swing here, which means more TV time for me. With a few weeks off Uni, I have some extra time to watch some fab shows on my Netflix list. There are usually loads of options to pick from and it can feel overwhelming to decide what to watch sometimes. This is why I like to have a watch list for every streaming platform ready to pick from when I want to watch something. Here are some of the series I am watching on Netflix.

Supacell

This Netflix series is one of my favourites this summer. I love the cast a lot! They all made this series interesting, and most of them were new faces to me, so it was nice to watch the talented bunch. I also love the storyline. It was easy to follow but with loads of twists and turns. The series is about a group of young Londoners who suddenly discover they have superpowers.

Watch this Supacell on Netflix if you are into supernatural/Sci-Fi content. I am so looking forward to the season 2!

Oloture: The Journey

This is another series I have been watching on Netflix. I have seen all 3 episodes, and they are quite intense but interesting. I am going to watch the movie as well, just to get the background story. That was released some years ago. If you are into Nollywood movies, this series is a good one to watch. It is all about the life of an undercover journalist who gets swallowed into the world of prostitution.

New Amsterdam

I started watching this drama series some weeks ago and it is really good. It is all about a group of doctors in a public hospital in New York, and every episode has a story as well as an ongoing storyline for each doctor. There are 5 seasons on Netflix, and I am just about to round up season 1, so lots to watch. If you are into series like Grey’s Anatomy and ER, you may like New Amsterdam.

What are your thoughts on these Netflix series? Have you seen any of them? What are you currently watching on Netflix?
