Christmas Shopping Tips

Have you started your Christmas Shopping yet? I have. I know many of you may think it is too early to start shopping for Christmas in October but I disagree. I think this is the best time to start. I have started my Christmas Shopping because I like to get my shopping sorted before the crazy Christmas rush starts. And starting early means I can take my time and shop smart. All I need to worry about is where to hide all the gifts, so my kids don’t find them, lol.

I have previously mentioned shopping tips in an older post so I am not going to bore you by repeating them. But here are some Christmas shopping tips that have worked for me –

Shopping in a big mall

I like to shop in big shopping malls where I can get all I need in 1 go. Liverpool One is one of the biggest shopping malls around me, and it is one of my favourite places to go. It houses some of my favourite shops and restaurants. So I get to eat some delicious food at amazing restaurants whilst shopping. There are so many of my favourite restaurants in Liverpool, so I am usually spoilt for choice. I usually stop for a quick coffee, some cake and an all day breakfast bloomer toastie at a coffee shop whilst shopping. Then have a proper lunch in a fancy restaurant after my shopping has been completed. I do look forward to my shopping days (when I am alone) because I go all out!

Go for bargains

Starting my Christmas shopping early means I can make the most of the bargains and deals in stores. At the moment, there are so many offers going on with good discounts, it would be silly to miss out. And with my growing children that keep growing by the minute, I am always on the lookout for bargains. So I advise you keep your eyes and ears open too.

Get gift receipts

Do not forget to get gift receipts for gifts you buy, just incase they need to be returned or exchanged.

Have a list and budget

Having a list and a budget goes without saying but many people go shopping without them, so it is worth mentioning. It keeps you focused. Spending cash instead of using your bank cards might also help, as it is a lot harder for most of us to part with real life cash.

Tender Loving Care for your Clothes

Black Dress Image

I have had some pieces in my wardrobe for many years, but you will never know by looking at them. And that is because I take good care of my clothes. I see clothes as a bit of an investment, so I like to keep them for as long as I can. Our clothes need some Tender Loving Care (TLC) to serve us, so it makes sense to pay them special attention. Here are some ways you could do that today:

Wash Inside Out/Wash Separately

Wash your clothes inside out to prevent fading when washing. This TLC tip is particularly important when dealing with jeans, denim jackets, and bright coloured cotton trousers.

Also, follow the rule of washing whites separately, and coloured separately. Your clothes will thank you for it. And look out for clothes that shed – such as fluffy towels and jackets. They should be washed separately or else every thing could be covered with fluff.

Empty the Pockets

I remember many occasions where I forgot to empty pockets before putting clothes in the washing machine; the washing didn’t end well. The first thing to do before turning clothes inside out is to empty the pockets. There is nothing worse than unloading the washer to find all the clothes covered in blue ink from a pen left in a jeans pocket!

Sort out the Wardrobe

Arrange your clothes in an orderly manner in your wardrobe. This sounds like common sense but I have seen so many disorganised wardrobes so I know it is not. If you don’t have enough space in your closet, you should consider having some clothes in storage boxes when not in use. I arrange my clothes in my wardrobe season by season, so its summer/autumn, and winter/spring for me. I know it is kind of reverse, but it work for me. The clothes not in use go to storage boxes.

Cold Wash for Delicate Fabrics

Remember to cold wash and rinse delicate fabrics or fabrics with a dry clean label (if you are brave enough), even if it is a hand wash. Cold water is a lot softer on clothing, which makes it perfect for delicate pieces. Or you could just clean them the dry cleaning way.

So these are my ways of giving good loving to my clothes. And that is how I get to have them for many years. How do you care for your clothes?

Alicia Vikander Covers British Vogue August 2016

Vogue-Aug16-cover-vogue-30june16_B

Vogue is one of those magazines you are programmed to love as a fashion enthusiast. It is commonly known as the ‘Fashion Bible’, and it is one of those monthly magazines you see on the desks of fashion stylists, models, celebrities, bloggers and vloggers. I am one of the few fashion bloggers that is vocal about my dislike for Vogue Magazines. I find them bland and so boring. I can count on 1 hand how many Vogue Magazines I have bought with my money, and on 2 hands how many I have read.

The magazine’s articles hardly interest me, and the covers are usually a hit or a massive miss, but I still love talking about them. However, I do love their online magazine. I love the articles they have on there. I find them interesting and down to earth, and I remember visiting the online site on a daily basis when I had the luxury of time. Wish I could do the same now. Wish they could fill the magazine pages with more relatable and interesting articles, but I guess I am not the target market.

The cover girl for this month’s vogue is Alicia Vikander. Her name does not ring a bell, but after some digging, I realised she is the Oscar-winning star from the hit movie – The Danish Girl. I am yet to see the movie but I do want to so I will be keeping my eyes open for when I do come across it. Gosh I miss Blockbusters sometimes. I hope it does not take forever to come on Netflix.

I am not a fan of this cover at all. I am not feeling her pose, hair and makeup. It just looks boring. However, some of the articles on the cover look promising. Like Accessory Preview – The bags and shoes to upscale your look, Style Agenda – Get ahead of the new season, and When a holiday becomes a life reset.

I will be looking out for this issue in the waiting rooms.

What are your thoughts?
