Wrong Sizing

So many реорlе get their sizing so wrоng. You need to ensure you buy the right size of сlоthing. If thе сlоthing doesn’t fit, don’t buy it. And if you have bought it already, don’t wear it.

If уоu аrе losing weight, make ѕurе you buу сlоthеѕ thаt fit your new size or hold off shopping until you are done with the weight loss. When I am in between sizes, or trying to lose weight, I like to shop for dresses online, simply because I get better bargains and options, and dresses are easier to rock when I am in between sizes. Whеn buуing clothes, mаkе ѕurе you сhесk the ѕizing and ensure you get your right size for the store. Sizes mean different things in different stores and countries.

Wrinkled Clothes

You should never step out of your house lооking wrinkled! I hate ironing but I hate looking wrinkled a lot more, so I make sure my clothes are well ironed.

Hеrе iѕ a ԛuiсk tiр: if уоu want to dесrеаѕе the timе it tаkеѕ to irоn уоur сlоthеѕ, hang thеm uр оnсе уоu hаvе worn them, so they are not wrinkled when next you need to wear them.

Tоo Many Cоlоurѕ

Wеаring toо mаnу different colours will ruin your overall look. When I say too many, I mean more than 3 colours. Kеер уоur colouring ѕimрle by sticking to at least 1 bright colour, and 2 minimal colours at the most, except you are going for a colour blocking look.

Viѕiblе Pаntу and Brа Linе

Contrary to рорulаr bеliеf, it iѕ not ѕеxу оr attractive tо hаvе a viѕiblе panty or bra linе. Always wear lingеriе thаt ѕuits what you have on.

Choosing Wrong Designs

Each уеаr, fashion designers bombard us with new pieces and accessories in various designs. However many оf the high fаѕhiоn designs do not ѕuit thе regular wоmеn. Always opt for designs that suit your body shape and personality.

We all know that Mаxi drеѕѕеѕ wеrе оnсе a trend, but they аrе also now a wаrdrоbе ѕtарlе, and they аrе hеrе tо ѕtау. Every wardrobe should have a few maxi dresses. They are effortless, vеrѕаtilе аnd suits аll ѕhареѕ and ѕizеѕ, with no effort rеԛuirеd at all! It is also very easy to shop for dresses online, which is an added plus for me, you all know how much I love my online shopping, I would be lost without it.

Why is Fashion So Obsessed with the Old Trends

Chichi London Dress Picture

I always keep an eye out for new trends in fashion. Compared to the styles that were available since the time I’ve been running Fashion & Style Police, what is termed “fashionable” has evolved so much. Despite the remarkable changes in fashion, I couldn’t help but notice how old trends and styles kept coming back.
History does have a way of repeating itself and fashion was not left out in this. But why? Aren’t we in the modern age? Why do old trends have to creep into the fashion scene and on the runaways again and again? Don’t get me wrong! I do love the baby doll dress from the 60s which inspired the empire waists and the denim jackets, crop tops and animal prints from the 80s. Even the most loved skinny jeans are an evidence of the presence of old trends in today’s fashion. What I want to know is why fashion keeps “borrowing” from the past and doesn’t seem to move forward.
So with some research, observation and plenty of deep thinking, I’ve been able to get some answers. I must warn you that what you will read will make you love, appreciate and respect fashion a little more. Here are some reasons why fashion is so obsessed with old trends:
Reason #1: Fashion designers look to the past as source of inspiration.
How does a majority of the fashion styles come to life if not for the fashion designers? This was a big revelation to me. Fashion designers draw inspiration from various sources: life, nature or events. But if you want to create something new, you need to go back in time to see what others have done and find ways you can “borrow” or improve on their designs. Pretty smart, don’t you think?
Reason #2: Some old trends can easily fit the present times and still look good.
The beauty about fashion is that there are endless possibilities to how you can combine outfits together to give you a new look. Have you put on a denim jacket and love the look on you? No matter how old their origins, some of those pieces are timeless. They look so good that you feel that it’s part of present time.
I love mixing and matching various pieces and I have discovered several ways old pieces work. There’s this versatility behind each piece. They work for pretty much anyone and any era.
Reason #3: To show appreciation for the originality of the past.
What better way to show tribute to the time than by wearing the clothes that reflect that period?
The fashion trends of the past find their way to the future when people see themselves identify with the culture, attitude or class of the past. For example, wearing leather jackets to represent the cool but tough biker look or the black dress adorned with long white pearl beads to allude to the classiness of the 1960s. The old trends were like a voice to give expression to the attitude, culture and class we still feel today. Impressive, isn’t it?

Fashion & Style Police Chats With Threads by Dreads

Threads by Dreads Collection Image

I love chatting with successful business men and women. I like to know what makes them tick. And I like to unlearn and pick up a thing or 2 from their experiences. I came across Threads by Dreads a year ago on Instagram, and I have been following the brand’s designs ever since. I got to chat with the lovely lady (Christiana) behind the successful brand, and I had the opportunity to interview her. So grab a cuppa and enjoy the read and the amazing pictures from her latest collection.

Can you tell me what Threads by Dreads is all about and the idea behind the brand?

Threads by Dreads is an extension of what and how I feel. This brand entails more than just fashion design…the Threads by Dreads is about showcasing the evolution of modern, African wear. I yearned to create something that is original and unique, while still incorporating my
Ghanaian culture. I dived into fashion head first, without the basics and foundations of the fashion industry or sewing experience. So with that
caveat, I challenged myself to learn as much as possible in order to make my designs come to life. It is imperative for me to stay fully grounded
with the roots of my ancestors and perpetuate the sustenance of my heritage.

How have you found the competition fashion industry?

Honestly I feel as though when innovative and daring designers come together…the possibilities are truly endless! I would love to collaborate
with the right people! I design and wear clothing that isn’t common. However from what I have learned, the fashion industry is extremely
competitive. For starters, staying on top of fashion innovation, new skills and resources is imperative. As a business, I am successful because of my valued customers, it is crucial that I hear them out in order for me to serve them effectively.

Describe a typical working day in your life?

Currently, a typical day for me includes, fulfilling orders, communicating and networking ( a lot via email, text, social media, meetings and phone
calls), in addition to production and operations, I also stay on top of future opportunities for fashion shows, sponsorships and retail events.
Did I mention that I also have a full-time job? 🙂

If you could go back in time, what will you do differently with regards to the brand?

Ha! Looking back on the journey thus far…I would say I should’ve sat my butt down to acquire more skills from Sewing/Fashion classes and connect
with exemplary pioneers in the industry. For me, the desire to keep learning is what keeps me going, I want to know the dynamics and mechanics
of the fashion industry, operations, design and successfully implementing everything from ‘A’ to ‘Z’. It’s never too late to begin a new adventure
and learn something new!

Can you tell me about your new collection? What should we expect?

With our new line up, you can expect to see new designs from our Fall/Winter wear. In our upcoming unveiling, you can expect to see pull
over jackets, shirts, skirts, dresses and blazers in the coming months. Our clothing is not gender specific, fashion is for everyone!

Where do you get your inspiration from?

My inspiration comes from a variety of sources. My most memorable inspiration comes from my mother, she was truly a woman of style and
grace! I remember how she would proudly wear custom pieces made from Ghana and add accessories to complete her ensemble. May God continue to keep her. I could be reading a magazine or blog, watching the news, exercising at the park or attending a runway event…fashion and design surrounds us, it’s in nature and encrypted in the walls of our temples. Oddly enough, I also get my inspiration from the designs I don’t like. I’m always scouting for ways in which I can capitalize on opportunities of making improvements. Constructive criticism is my friend. 🙂

Where do you see Threads by Dreads in 5 years?

This is such a tricky question…lol. I’m the kind of person who believes the sky is not the limit and opportunities can present themselves at any
given time. Threads by Dreads will continue to build a positive brand that evokes on the abundance of beauty and talents that originate from Ghana.
As a business, the brand will make wholesome partnerships and mutually beneficial collaborations that will ultimately get our merchandise in
retail stores globally.

What do you think of the Fashion and Style Police blog?

I have been a fan of the Fashion and Style Police Blog for a while now. I love how Stella covers everything from the latest issue of Cosmopolitan,
and skin care to in-depth product reviews. She is an all-around genius when it comes to covering real life, heart-felt stories and delivering the
hard-core facts. And she’s honest!
