How Fashion Bloggers are Democratizing the Fashion World

There was a time in fashion history when what was fashionable was only known to the elite aka rich and famous. When it was released they were the only ones who could afford those new styles. So much has changed since then and thankfully more people are able to get in touch with what’s in vogue.

Styles are no longer something beyond reach. Not only that, we can see the latest designs even before they hit the stores.

I believe democratizing fashion has helped evolve people’s orientation to what is fashionable. I also believe that it gives room for creativity. And as more pieces flood in we get exposed to the endless possibilities of ways we can mix and match those pieces to create something we call our own.

When I sit back to analyse how far fashion has come I see a pattern being revealed. I realized that we fashion bloggers play a very important role in democratizing fashion. We follow our love and passion for fashion, and have become one of the quickest means of disseminating and declaring what is termed fashionable. Just to give you a clear picture of how we are able to achieve this, here are some things that will interest you.

Fashion bloggers get you connected with what is trending

We are dedicated to informing our readers about what’s trending now in the fashion industry. By keeping our readers informed, we help them keep up with the latest styles and trends, and what’s happening in the world of fashion.

Fashion bloggers want to share what’s happening in the fashion industry

The reason why fashion was not accessible to all, was because only a certain set of people were invited to fashion shows and were aware of the upcoming designs and trends. Fashion shows were also not streamed online so there was no way for the general public to get involved.

As time passed by and things started to change, thanks to fashion bloggers and social media. Fashion bloggers not only share what’s trending on the runway, they also give tips, hacks and affordable alternatives that will help their readers mimic what’s trending in a way that is the most affordable.

Fashion bloggers are the voice of consumers

We are so fortunate to witness an era where our opinions about fashion matter. We fashion bloggers are so much closer to consumers, we know what the people are looking for. Our influence is so strong that fashion designers and retailers tend to listen. What this means is that fashion bloggers have turned out to be the voice of the voiceless.

Fashion is no longer one way traffic. We are able to voice out what consumers are agitating for, which gives fashion designers a clear picture of what the people want.

Mica Argañaraz Covers British Vogue Magazine August 2017

Mica Argañaraz is the cover girl for British Vogue Magazine August 2017. She is a rising star, which explains why I have never heard of her. The cover was photographed by Craig McDean – and styled by Vogue‘s senior contributing fashion editor, Kate Phelan.

This is Mica Argañaraz’s first British Vogue cover, and I like it! It is simple but yet has the Vogue factor; which is quality and elegance. This magazine cover ticks all the right boxes.

I did a bit of research on the cover girl, and discovered she is Argentinian model, one of the hottest models around today. She has modelled for Christopher Kane, Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, Chanel, Christian Dior, Prada and even Mango.

I can why Mica Argañaraz is so popular at the moment. Her distinct look, with the shaggy fringe and strong jawline have made her stand out for the right reasons. She is definitely one model to watch.

Here are some excerpts from Mica Argañaraz’s interview with British Vogue –

Mica Argañaraz on her Modelling Career

“I really take it as a job,” she told us. “It makes me feel proud how far I got, I tried to be honest and true to myself.”

“I’ve had a lot of experiences and I think they’ve made me grow up,” she added. “Also, this job has given me a lot, which allows me to give back and to help people. It feels good when you can turn it into a cycle.”

Good she loves her job. Doing a job you love is one of the best things you could do for yourself.

Mica Argañaraz on Breaking into Modelling

“You make your own career as you build your own reality,” she told us. “Personally I’m not competitive, and I get along with a lot of my colleagues. I do get happy when my friends and people I like are doing well, and I feel it happens the same the other way around. It can be a lonely lifestyle otherwise when you travel so much.”

I like to see others around me doing well too! I can’t understand envy.

I am yet to read this issue but will looking out for it. Have you read it? What do you think of the cover girl?

Does Fashion Empower Women

Fashion means a whole lot of things to different people. For some, it means a means of expression. For others, it’s a way to feel good about themselves. Then there are others who see fashion as a movement.

Seeing fashion as way to empower yourself as a woman is something that is most times overlooked by a lot of women. No matter how fashion conscious they might seem, very few women are aware about the type of power fashion delivers. It’s all up to you to be conscious of it and steer it in the direction that will help you grow as a woman.

But can fashion really empower women? I did a bit of research and soul-searching as I’m also into fashion and this is what I got:

Fashion makes you feel confident about yourself

There’s no doubt that looking good makes you feel great about yourself. And when you’re confident, you are able to do things in life fearlessly. For a woman, fashion empowers her to be able to come out of her shell. Fashion gives you that sense of security that you will be respected and heard because people usually address us the way we are dressed. Also, the boost of confidence fashion gives makes a woman feel unstoppable.

Fashion is a good avenue to make a living

Some of the women who venture into fashion industry have been extremely successful. Fashion is a lucrative business and there are so many angles from which you can start a career. From fashion blogging to fashion designing, or a being a personal stylist to sharing and selling courses or training, the options are endless, and the sky is only the beginning.

Being able to create a sustainable living from something that interests you is empowering as it gives you a sense of control over your life. You feel that you are able to support yourself and your family. You also define your income which empowers you to do greater things in life.

Fashion gives you the opportunity to share your message and make an impact

Fashion is expression. It’s a means of telling a story about society. While watching fashion shows on TV, I love listening to the behind-the-scenes interview with fashion designers. I observed that whenever they talk about their collection, there was usually a story behind it and a message they wanted to put out in the world.

Charity shows and fund raisers have been a great way women have impacted society through fashion. Their art through fashion has been an inspiration to several other upcoming designers, who look up to them for the motivation to pursue their dreams.

So does fashion inspire women? Absolutely! It’s all about being able to take fashion leverage on its power to give you the confidence to be yourself, the economic power to live the life of freedom and the ability to share your message and be an inspiration to others.
