Pros & Cons of Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Laser Hair Removal Image

So I was chatting with a friend some days ago, she is currently contemplating having the laser hair removal treatment done on her legs, and she has been doing some reading online about the pros and cons of having treatment done. We chatted a lot about my experience so far with the laser treatment; I have my next session over the weekend, and I am super excited.

Our chat kind of prompted this post. I think many people are still wary of the whole laser ‘thingy’. Some people think the treatment could lead to serious life threatening illnesses, while others think the hairs in the treated area would grow back with a vengeance, longer and more coarse. Anyways, here is what I think, based on my 4 laser hair removal sessions:

PROS

  1. It works. I have had 4 sessions already, I have 2 more sessions to go, and I started to notice a difference as soon as I had my first session. The hair on my chin, which is the area I am treating at the moment, had strands of coarse hair, but after the first laser session, the new growth is no longer visible to the naked eye.
  2. Each session is very quick, depending on the area to be treated. The treatment on my chin takes about 10 minutes for each session.
  3. The technique is very safe if performed correctly. So a patch test should be carried out before starting the treatment to see how well the area reacts to the laser, no makeup in the area to be treated to avoid burns, protective glasses should be worn at all time while undergoing the treatment, an ointment should be applied after the treatment to ensure the treated area is not irritated, and so on.
  4. The treatment is not as painful as threading, so if you can handle threading, then the discomfort you will feel while having this treatment done should be a walk in the park.
  5. There is no research to show that this treatment would lead to life threatening illnesses, or that the hairs in the treated area, will grow back longer and more coarse.

CONS

  1. The treatment does not come cheap. However there are finance options available in most clinics.
  2. The laser treatment promises permanent hair reduction and not permanent hair removal, so the rate at which the hair grows back will depend on your genetics.
  3. Some people could experience some itching, redness, burning, skin discolouration and swelling after having the treatment. This usually disappears within few days.
  4. Several sessions are usually required to reduce the hair growth, usually 6 – 8 sessions.

I do recommend having the laser hair removal treatment done, if you need it. It gives long-lasting results, compared to other hair removal methods, like shaving, threading, waxing and depilatories, and it is over in a matter of minutes.

My Laser Hair Removal Journey: The Second Session

So if you a regular reader of Fashion and Style Police (and if not, why aren’t you?), you would know all about my issue with some of my body hairs as well as my Laser Hair Removal Journey  with Laser Chic Manchester. Well, I had my second session some days ago, after the normal 4-6 weeks wait, and it went so well.

It was as quick as my first session, if not quicker, I was done in about 10 minutes. I guess it was quicker because there was less hair to ‘laser’ off. I didn’t have to shave in between sessions as the hairs did not grow back at all which was great. I didn’t expect the treatment to be that effective from just 1 session, so it was a pleasant surprise. My chin has never felt so smooth.

The second session was not only quick, but pain-free just like the first. It just felt like a sting, I didn’t need any form of pain relief before or after the treatment, and I went about my Christmas shopping once I was done. I only had to apply the Janssen Cosmetics Sensitive Skin Complex after the treatment. This ointment is just to ensure the treatment area is not irritated, and I also have one at home to use just incase the need arises.

I am so happy with the treatment, I have had no issues whatsoever. The guys at Laser Chic always go above and beyond with their excellent service. The atmosphere is light and friendly, you are sure to feel comfortable at the clinic.  All my questions are always answered (no matter how stupid they sound), and I feel comfortable putting my chin in their hands really.

My next session would be in January 2016, so look out for the post. I am so excited and I am looking forward to when my chin would be completely hair-free. Even if I may have to have yearly top-ups, I rather have that, than having to thread or wax every 4 weeks.

I think most people find the whole laser thing new and scary, as new is always scary at first. Well, there is absolutely nothing to be scared off. As long as you are in the right hands, you would be fine, and trust me, it is worth it.

Would you consider ever having a laser hair removal treatment? If yes, what part of your body would you like treated? Share your thoughts.

Thanks for reading and have a great day.

My Laser Hair Removal Journey: The First Session

Laser Chic Manchester

So last week, I told you all about me starting my laser hair removal treatment, and I even had a little rant about me wanting my body hairs off and all. Well, here is an update, I had my first session at Laser Chic Clinic in Manchester and I am glad to say it well extremely well. I got in the clinic in time and was attended to immediately by the lovely Seti. Next, I got on the green chair, where all the magic happens, took off all the makeup on my chin with some wipes supplied by the clinic (makeup needs to be completely off the area to be treated in order to avoid burns), got the protective shades on and we got to work.

Laser Hair Removal Machine

The laser machine targets the hair follicles, so you feel a sting (it felt like a sting to me) when it comes in contact with hair, and you smell the hair burn as well, which confirms it, lol. When there is no longer hair in the area, you feel and smell nothing. The lovely laser hair removal machine is pictured above, science is amazing!

My Laser Hair Removal Journey

The entire session was super quick, it lasted for about 15 minutes, I was in and out in no time, which was great. Regarding the pain, I didn’t find the treatment painful at all. In fact, I found this session a lot easier than the patch test, and I guess it is because I knew what to expect, and I had no surprises. Also, the cool air was on the area, alongside the laser machine, so I didn’t feel the heat too much.

Most people would find this treatment bearable. A friend of mine is also having a laser hair treatment done in a different country, and it was a walk in the park for her too.

After the treatment, Janssen Cosmetics Sensitive Skin Complex was applied to the area as you can see above. This lotion prevents skin irritation, reduces redness, improves skin resilience, restores the skin natural protection and provides plenty of moisture. This was applied after the patch test as well, and is highly recommend by the lovely ladies at Laser Chic Clinic, so I bought one of it to take home. They go for £37 for a 30ml. I apply the lotion to my clean chin twice a day for the first few days after treatment, and as when required. To be honest, I haven’t had a real reason to apply since my treatment, but it is better to be safe.

Janssen Cosmetics

I have my next session booked in for sometime in December and I am so looking forward to it. I need to get them hairs all out, and I am hoping to be hair-free real soon. If you are around Manchester/Cheshire, You can book your free consultation at Laser Chic Clinic, not just because I am telling you to, but because they are one of the best in the area. I will be blogging about all my sessions, so look out for the next post.

So, what are your thoughts? Sound off in the comment section.

Thanks for reading.
