Tips for Styling a Black Tie Look

When it comes to styling a black-tie look, you should go for a chic and poised outfit. For those who do not know, a black-tie is a semi-formal Western dress code for evening events. It originated in British and American conventions for attire in the 19th century.

I don’t usually go for the black-tie look because I never have anywhere to go. The last time I attended an event where I had to play proper dress up, was at a 40th birthday party last spring. But when I do have an event, I like to ensure I get the look right.

Here are some tips you should remember when styling a black-tie look –

Keep it streamlined

When it comes to black-tie events, you should remember to keep it classy. You should avoid flouncy and billowing pieces. So don’t go for loose clothing or dresses with lots of material. Instead, opt for streamlined and well cut pieces.

Streamlined pieces would ensure you nail the chic/poised look.

Go maxi

One of the easiest ways of nailing the black-tie look, is to go maxi. Opt for maxi dresses for an instant evening glamour. Anyone can look great in a well fitted maxi, the right pair of heels and a stunning clutch.

Accessories can also work wonders, so make sure you have the right set of accessories to go with your maxi dress.

Go for the classic look

If you want to play safe, opt for a little black dress. That always works. If you are feeling adventurous, you could try styling a little white dress like what I have on above.

Both colours would work great for a black-tie event, with the right type of accessories.

What do you think of these style tips? When was the last time you attended a black-tie event?

Cara Delevingne Covers British Vogue September 2016

Cara Delevingne On Vogue Image

The stylish Cara Delevingne is on the cover of British Vogue September 2016 issue and she looks good. I am loving the cover a lot. I like the fact that it is quite colourful with the blue jacket and red background. I love her pose, hair and makeup, but then it is Cara Delevinge so I am surprised. She nails everything she touches!

This issues promises to be a good read. The 23-year-old model gushes about her new-found love in her interview:

“I’m completely in love… Before, I didn’t know what love was – real love,” she told us of her relationship with American singer-songwriter Annie Clark (known by her stage name St Vincent). “I didn’t understand the depth of it. I always used to think it was you against the world. Now I know the meaning of life is love. Whether that’s for yourself or for the world or your partner.”

She sounds happy so I am happy for her. Love is a beautiful thing and everyone deserves to experience it.

Cara Delevingne also talks about her transition into Hollywood, and about the gender pay gap:

“I’m still learning. I act for love. I give it my all,” she revealed of her more recent pursuit. “I would probably still do it even if I wasn’t paid at all. But in terms of equal pay I need to be paid the same as the guy who has equal billing with me. Otherwise I won’t do it. Because if you accept less, you’re just letting everyone else down and continuing the cycle.”

I agree with her 100%. I find it bizarre that we still have this gender pay issue today. I mean it is 2016. I am not going to bore you guys with my feminist views, but we really should not have to deal with the same issues previous generations had to deal with.

Apart from Cara’s interview, I would also love to read ‘The big 7 trends you’ll want to wear’ and ‘Vogue’s guide to go-getting style’. Both articles sound like a good read.

Will you be reading this issue? What do you think of the cover?

I bought some new shoes and this Office sandals here is one of them. I got this on sale for just £10, was previously over £50 so that is a bargain, right?
