How to Manage your Mood Swings

happy-image

We all have to deal with mood swings every now and again. There is some much going on in life, it is impossible to be happy every time. But there are ways to deal with the crazy mood swings, and ensure we are as happy as we can be. There is no known cause of mood swings as at time of writing, and there are different ways of handling them. Here are the ways I manage my swinging moods:

I have a routine

I like to stick to a routine, that way I know how my day, week or month would look like. That pattern improves me mood because I feel in charge of my life, if that makes sense. Some days are more flexible than others, but it is pretty much the same schedule. Research has also shown that having a routine helps regulate emotional highs and lows. That is the reason why many babies strive when they have a routine.

I exercise

I have started taking my health and fitness very seriously, and it feels amazing. The endorphins released during exercise helps control stress and improves mood drastically. Even moderate exercise like walking can help relieve frequent or abrupt changes in mood. It works like magic for me. I feel so good after a good jog.

I sleep

Beauty sleep always helps combat bad moods, so I try to get a good amount of sleep. Sleep deprivation is the worst thing ever. I remember when I was pregnant, I couldn’t sleep for a weird reason. And I would get up in the morning feeling horrible. It was so crazy. I didn’t understand why I couldn’t fall asleep but I guess it had to do with the hormones and all. And then once I gave birth, all I wanted to do was sleep, and they didn’t let me, lol. I was sleep deprived for months.

I eat

I am a very grumpy person when I am hungry, so I try not to get too hungry before I eat. Nutrition is a very important component in mood management. Remember the saying – ‘a hungry man is an angry man’? Having the right amount of nutrients and avoiding large consumption of sugar, alcohol, and caffeine will help reduce the frequency of mood swings. I am very hyper when I have more than 2 cups of coffee, or 2 cans of coke, and when I am hyper, it affects my moods, so I stick to 1 cup or can a day.

I read

I love reading and I have discovered reading does help my mood swings. I read hundreds of blog posts a week, and 1 book or magazine a week, and that improves my mood and my stress levels drastically. Relaxing with a good book and a good cup of teat is the best medicine some days.

Self-care for the Self Employed

Fashion and Style Police Blog Image

Self-care is something I have thought a lot about in the last couple of weeks. I even wrote a bit about my struggles to find the time to unwind some days ago. And it is like the universe is trying to tell me something because everywhere I turn, it is a well-being blog post video, or podcast. I find it very hard to remember to care for myself because I am busy caring for everyone and everything else. But I had a reality check some days ago, and I have decided to focus on my well-being a lot more in order to get things done effectively and to be in the right frame of mind.

A happy, healthy person is a go-getter, but it can be very tricky to care for yourself when you are self-employed. When you work for yourself, from home, you will likely find it so hard to switch off. I know I do. I find it hard to get my mind off my work. I find myself working every spare moment I get, even late in the evenings and weekends. And when I am not working, I am thinking about what I need to do. But I have now realised I am doing myself a disservice by not relaxing. So I have decided to take action. Here are some ways I will be looking after me some more:

Exercise

My daily steps target is 10,000. Some days I am close to hitting my target, I exceed the target on few days, but most days I struggle to get past 8,000 steps. I will continue to aim to hit my daily target of 10,000 steps. Going for long walks and jogging helps me hit the easily so I will be doing more of that when I can.

Apart from daily steps, I will also continue my Fitness Blender workout on YouTube. The feeling after a good work out is heavenly, no wonder many are addicted to working out. Besides the amazing feeling and what it does to my body, I am more productive after a good work out session or after a good jog.

Many self-employed people work from home, and hardly get the time to go out, which is so bad for their health. The first step in self-care is to have daily exercise, and get out of the house some more.

Diet

Sometimes I can work for 4 hours straight without stopping to take a drink of water. Many times, I skip a meal while working. This is sad but it is the reality for many self-employed people. The hustle is real, and it is a jungle out there, but food and water should not be forgotten because of work. Our diet plays a major role in our health and state of mind, so we all have to pay attention to it. Eating small portions of food and drinking regularly is the way forward.

Regular Breaks

Taking regular breaks while working is needed. Usually, I find myself working on the couch for hours at a stretch with no breaks. This is horrible for my health and productivity. I find that when I do take regular breaks, I achieve a lot more and I feel better too. So I could write a post for an hour, then do some household chores for 20 minutes that involves moving around the house, and then send some emails for another 30 minutes. Regular breaks with some activity helps greatly.

Beauty Sleep

I have written a few times about the importance of having our beauty sleep, but I need to take my own advice a bit more. I don’t sleep as many hours as I should, and that has to change. A good night sleep almost guarantees a good day, so it is important we get sleep for as many hours as we need to be productive.

Having power naps during the day also work for some but it doesn’t for me. It makes me feel weird for a good few hours when I wake from a power nap, so I only have 1 if I had no bad night, up with the kids, and so on.

Schedule Some ‘Me’ Time

Scheduling some ‘me’ time is so important for our well-being and I rarely schedule time just for myself, but going forward, I am going to start scheduling some time regularly just for myself. We all need some time to cool off and recharge our batteries, doing what we love to do.

How are you? How do you look after yourself?

Creating A Relaxing Bedroom Environment

Jockey

Sometimes life happens and the bedroom kind of takes the back seat in our lives. We are too busy living and chasing paper, we forget some of the things that truly matter. I have always spoken openly about how important my bedroom is to me. I think bedrooms are the most private rooms in any house, and they are meant to be relaxing. And that is the reason why many people are against having some form of entertainment in the bedroom, like TVs and games for example.

Having the right bedroom environment would put you in a relaxing mood instantly. So clean, fresh smelling bedding, well laid bed, well aired room, and some burning candles, would help create a relaxing bedroom environment.

A relaxing bedroom environment can do wonders for your libido, as you can imagine. Research has shown that many couples struggle with erectile dysfunction, and many are as a stress, depression, anxiety and relationship problems. Having a relaxed bedroom is the first step in sorting out any erectile dysfunction issues, and is the first step to having a healthy sex lifestyle and a healthy lifestyle in general, because our beauty sleep plays a vital role in our overall health.

Here are some tips for creating a relaxed bedroom environment:

Keep the Bedroom Clean and Tidy

Keeping the bedroom clean and tidy is the first time in creating the perfect bedroom environment. If you know me well enough, you will know I am unable to think when my bedroom is upside down. I like my bedroom and every other room clean and tidy every time, except when the kids are trashing the living room. Also, fresh bedding make me drift off to sleep quickly, and a bed mist always helps.

Open the Windows

I like to have the windows open whenever I can. Fresh air in the room helps me relax and clears my head. There is nothing quite like it!

Burn the Candles

I like burning candles in the bedroom for a few hours during the day. It leaves the entire house smelling amazing. I am currently stuck on Yankee Candles. I am loving every fragrance.

Clean Pyjamas/Nightwear

A clean pair of pyjamas or a night-dress helps me feel relaxed. Just like I love my fresh bedding, I also love my fresh night-wear. I am currently loving the Jockey nightwear pieces I have on here. They are amazing for the summer season.

Minimal Entertainment

Keeping entertainment to a minimal (if you must have some form of entertainment in the room) is a good idea, and also  try to reduce whatever the entertainment is at bedtime.

So there you have them; my tips for a relaxing bedroom environment. What do you think? Do you have any tips to add?

Please sound off in the comment section, lets talk.

Thanks for reading and have a fantastic day, enjoying the sun. I know I will, I am off to a BBQ later in the day.
