OOTD: Calling the Shots

The title of this post is inspired by the name of the lipstick I am wearing – Rimmel London Call the Shots. I have been incredibly busy these last couple of days, dealing with new clients and life in general. I almost didn’t have the take these outfit photos, but I was determined to find the time, against all odds. I believe when you want something so badly, you find the time for it. No room for excuses this year. I am calling the shots in my life!

Spring is here, and I am loving the sunshine we are getting. It is still more rain than sun, but I can’t complain. I made good use of the amazing weather by getting these photos taken. I hope the sunshine stays.

Every piece I have on is an “oldie but goldie”.  I got this black floral dress last year summer, and I have worn it a few times now. It is dead comfy and so easy to style; one of my current favourites. The brown faux leather jacket is also from last season’s collection, and so are the brown boots. If you are a regular reader, you would spot the black bag and sunnies, I have had them for donkey years, and they still look good.

This is the reason why I like to buy quality items. The more you spend on an item, the longer you have it, that is usually the case with me, especially when it comes to accessories – shoes, bags, jewellery and sunglasses. And that is the reason why I like to invest a little more in them, so they serve me for longer.

I also like to sell my old accessories on eBay, and bags do sell quite well on eBay.

OOTD: It Feels Like Autumn

The brown leaves are starting to appear and it is beginning to feel a lot like Autumn. I love how cool this season is, and the layering trend is the best! You should all know how I feel about the autumn (or fall season, depending on where you are) season by now, and if you don’t, say hello to my favourite season of the year.

I am so looking forward to getting my blazers and jackets out. This leather waterfall jacket is one of my favoruite jackets at the moment. I love the colour and the design, and the fact that it is faux leather. I got this piece a few months ago but I have only worn it once so I am looking forward to styling it a few times this season.

I wore this outfit to a meeting with a client over the weekend, and it worked brilliantly. I like that fact that is a chic and smart look; not too professional, and not too dressed up; just perfect.

The white cutout pencil dress is a new wardrobe addition. I got it in the summer sale some weeks back and I like it. It is a fabulous dress for formal and informal events. It can take you from the office to the bar easily. And it is super easy to style up or down. I adore multi-tasking pieces like this white beauty.

I hardly wear white, I used to think it was a money down the drain. But I am glad to announce I no longer think that. I do like white, and I think it looks good on me so I will be adding more white to my wardrobe, but I won’t be going overboard shopping white.

Basic Knitwear Essentials

As we say goodbye to summer and usher in the autumn/winter season, we also need to ensure we have our basic knitwear essentials at the ready. The new season collection has arrived in most stores, so this is the perfect time to have a good look at your wardrobe to see what you need to shop for and what you need to get rid of.

Here are 3 pieces you should have in your wardrobe this autumn/winter:

A Cashmere Jumper

Cashmere Women's Jumper

We all know cashmere is an expensive fabric but every wardrobe should have at least 1 100% cashmere piece. A cashmere sweater/jumper is worth every penny in my eyes. Having a few in various designs and colours is a smart wardrobe investment decision. Dunedin Cashmere have some amazing womens jumpers in various colours. This red beauty above is one of them, and it is currently on sale for £63 (was previously £90). Why spend so much on a cashmere jumper when you can get cheaper alternatives I hear you ask? Well, a cashmere jumper will hold retain its shape, feel amazing on the skin – it is super soft, and it will never go out of style. Having a few cashmere jumpers is definitely a worthwhile investment.

A Long Sleeve Jersey Top

A long sleeve jersey top is a wardrobe essential for all seasons especially the autumn/winter season. It is a multi-tasking piece, very versatile and very easy to style. It can be worn on trousers, skirts, jeans or shorts. In an ideal situation, you should have a few of long sleeve tops in your closet. This Jane Norman piece above is an ideal choice, and it is currently on sale for £10 (previously £16).

A Knit Scarf

A knit scarf is another knitwear essential for this new season. A stunning knit scarf finishes off a look beautifully and also retains body heat. It is worth having a few in different colours and designs for different outfits. I am currently loving this Aran Scarf in lambswool by Dunedin Cashmere. This fine quality scarf will be a fab wardrobe accessory. It currently retails at £27.95.
