Breaking the Barriers

Old age is inevitable. As long as we keep breathing, we keep ageing, and there is nothing anyone of us can do about it. In the United Kingdom, we currently have an ageing population. And for one of the first times in history, we all are about to witness the number of our senior generation officially surpass that of the youth, with those 65 and up making up 15.6% of the global population by 2050. I am sure many of us are surprised by this fact, I know I was, but the truth is thanks to the advancement in healthcare and standards of living, we are all living longer.

Now this is good news, or should be good news, but many of us seem to overlook the elderly unconsciously, and cast them off as unable or incapable to do much, like learn new skills, or be an asset to the society, which is so wrong, and so far from the truth. I know a grandma of over 65 who recently passed her driving test after losing her husband. I also know a senior citizen who is currently learning Spanish, now that he is in his seventies, because he always wanted to learn a new language, but never had the time until now. So it is very possible to learn new life skills and tricks at any age.

I am always happy to see companies addresing real issues like this, so you can imagine how happy I was to see Bathing Solutions speaking up about this issue. I am so proud to support and spread the word about Bathing Solutions Breaking Barriers Campaign. I think it is about time we break the barriers against the elderly. It is 2016 for crying out loud, times are changing, people are changing. It is about time to support and encourage the elderly in our communities and make them feel empowered and feel like the true assets they are.

Examples of new life skills the elderly can learn are:

Blogging

Knitting

Cooking

Learning a New Language

Learning to Take Good Photos

The list of life skills over 65s could learn can go on and on. The point I am trying to make is, it is never too late for the senior citizens to learn something new, the elderly among us need our support to remain active and take that leap.It is important we celebrate the senior citizens because we shall all get there someday.

What are your thoughts on this issue?

5 Fashion Hacks for Shoes

Kurt Geiger Image

I love fashion and I love styling my pieces. I organised my wardrobe yesterday, and it was so much fun checking out pieces for my next outfit photos, and implementing my capsule wardrobe tips. I truly enjoy writing about fashion, and dressing up, and I feel many do enjoy it too but from a distance. Many people believe clothes do not look good on them as they would like, or are not aware of a few fashion tricks and tips, so this post is all about some fashion hacks for shoes, you may or may not have heard of.

Gel Inserts

Heels give your outfit the ‘WOW’ effect but can also be uncomfortable so add gel inserts into your shoes for extra comfort. You can also carry them around in your handbag for when your legs get tired or your feet gets sore. You don’t have to suffer to look stylish. Just make sure your shoes have a bit of room for the gel inserts. Moreover, wearing high heels very often can sometimes cause foot abnormalities. In these cases, it is recommended to wear Morton’s neuroma inserts to help relieve the stress on the nerves.

Go Platforms

In my ‘How to walk in heels‘ post, I mentioned how easy it is to walk in platforms unlike stilettos. Platforms are dead comfy and stylish, so they are the best heels to rock. High-rise platforms add the needed height and the ‘WOW’ to the look, without stress and discomfort. Remember, the thicker the heel, the more comfortable the shoes will be. St

Try the Wriggle Test

When buying closed toe shoes/pumps, make sure you have adequate breathing space for your toes. Make sure you can wriggle your toes freely. If you can’t do this, do not buy.

Avoid Buying Shoes Online

I love online shopping as you should all know by now, but I always try to buy my shoes in stores, so I can walk around in them and be assured I am comfortable walking in them before buying. Apart from the wriggle test above, I always go shoe shopping at the end of my shopping trip, when my feet is hot and swollen from all the walking around. This is so that I have a good idea of how they would fit if I wear them all day.

Shoe Shapers

Ensure you keep your shoes in shoe trees when not in use. This will extend the life of your shoes, and maintain the shape.

These are my 5 Fashion Hacks for Shoes. I hope you find them useful.

Do you have any fashion hack tip to share?

George Secret Santa

George Secret Santa

I took part in the #GeorgeSecretSanta challenge some weeks ago, and it was so much fun. Myself and a group of bloggers chosen by Santa’s little helpers – Talented Talkers, exchanged gifts from George’s Christmas Shop. I received my lovely gifts some days ago from my Secret Santa, courtesy of George, and I am so impressed, because these are items I would have chosen myself. I enjoyed taking part in this challenge, I had the pleasure of stalking the life out of my Secret Santa partner, I went through her amazing blog and social media accounts, and tried to get into her head, to select the right gifts for her. I think I did a good job, and I hope she loves the gifts I got for her.

The Lucky Mug

George Gifts

Now back to my gifts, my Secret Santa choose amazing items from the choices for her gifts section, I love this white mug with initial on it. This is my first mug with my initial and I now call it ‘my lucky mug’, ha!

The Needed Clutch

This gem embellished Aztec shoulder bag is a beauty to behold. It has actually filled up a void in my wardrobe. I have been lacking clutch bags for a while now and recently got a black clutch from Oasis, so having this silver embellished beauty as well means I won’t have to worry about clutches for a while now. Thank you Santa for paying attention.

The First Candle Gift Set

Candles

This Baylis & Harding luxury fragrance candle gift set is my first ever candle gift set. I have recently fallen in love with candles, thanks to all the Yankee Candle reviews (thanks guys). So I am now exploring candles, and discovering fragrances I like. I can’t wait to try these out.

The Skincare Pamper Gift Set

I love Dove products, they are perfect for my skin, so this set would be used up immediately, and that quilted wash bag will be my new travel companion. I have already started using the Purely Pampering Nourishing lotion and body wash, and I have only good things to say about these products. You might be reading a full review of them soon, so watch this space.

The Winter Snood

George Snood

This faux fur snood will be great to rock on cold days. I love the colour and the soft feel of the faux fur. Lovely snood.

What do you think of my gifts? You can tell by now that I love every one of my presents. Thank you Secret Santa, thank you George.

Have a great Monday everyone.
