How I am making the most of my Pinterest page

Pinterest has been around for many years. I have had an account on there for as long as I can remember but it is only until recently, that I have started paying more attention to my pins. Before I go on, I must confess, Pinterest was one of those social media platforms that confused the hell out of me. I never really understood it or what to do with it, but I have learnt a lot over the years, and still learning. Like every other social media platform, Pinterest is always evolving, and I am slowly starting to understand it all.

I am slowly growing my Pinterest following, with the number currently just under 500. That number doubled in the last few weeks, so I know the extra attention I am giving my boards is working. But I am more impressed with my monthly views currently at 208,800 and my monthly engaged number at 15,900. I have also noticed a spike in the number of my blog views from Pinterest, and I want to see those numbers increase some more in the next few weeks. Every extra blog traffic is good, and Pinterest is now my number 1 social media referral for Fashion and Style Police.

How I am making the most of my Pinterest page

Many bloggers have written so many articles on how to grow your Pinterest page, and I am sure you would have read a few of them already. Blogger – Forever Amber is a lover of Pinterest, and has raved about it many times. I know I have read loads and I never really understood the tips and how they worked. So I pretty much gave up on Pinterest. If you ask me what my tip is for making the most of my Pinterest page, the truth is I have none. But I always made sure I pinned every new post on the relevant boards.

I also took some time every week to go through my feed to pin images I liked on my boards. I also pinned images with posts I wanted to read at a later date. So I guess my strategy is consistency. Doing the same thing over and over again. I am happy to see my hardworking is finally paying off on Pinterest, and I am now determined to put in extra time to grow my Pinterest following and increase my engagement and viewers.

The power of social media

Social media is so very important. Any serious business owner knows the importance of having a strong social media presence. You would be living in a hole if you don’t know the power of social media. One of my many goals this 2019 is to grow my social media following. Now that I have seen the power of Pinterest, I now know why most of the American bloggers I know rave about it.

5 Ways to Add Some Luxury to your Bedroom

Ever looked at your bedroom and wondered how to make it look as luxurious and stylish as half the rooms on your favourite Pinterest board? Over time, it’s common for your bedroom to feel dull, boring and in desperate need of an update, but figuring out the best way to transform your bedroom often feels like a mammoth task. If you want to give your room an update but need some quick inspiration, have a read of these easy tips to help give your space a sophisticated, luxurious makeover in no time.

Think about lighting

The type of lighting you use can have a big impact on the appearance of your bedroom. Ditch your worn out light shade for some chic hanging lights or tasteful chandeliers to easily insert some glamour into any room. As for bedside lamps, consider wall lights as a more sophisticated alternative, with the added bonus of being cord free which is a great way to keep the bedroom looking minimal, and minimise the appearance of clutter.

Consider your bed

The bed is typically the focal point of any bedroom, meaning you should pay special attention to the frame and bedding used. Investing in a 6ft Divan bed is the perfect way to add some luxury to your room, with simple yet stylish designs, and space to store all your bits and bobs to avoid clutter. Go for bedding in beautiful colours and designs, and pay special attention to layering up your bed with soft throws and lots of cushions. They might be a pain to rearrange each morning, but the results are well worth it!

Optimise your space

Making your bedroom look bigger can be a good way to give it that hotel room feel, and is easier to achieve than you’d think. Placing a large mirror across from the opposite of the room can work wonders, creating the illusion of more space in an instant! The colours you use in your room can also play a factor. Try painting your walls in light shades such as white, grey or beige, and then opt for a darker colour for the ceiling to create the illusion of higher ceilings by drawing the attention upwards.

Find some statement pieces

While you don’t want to over clutter your bedroom with too much furniture, it’s definitely worth hunting down some perfect key pieces to bring everything together. A stylish rug, bedside cabinet and chair with a bold colour or pattern are just a few items that can easily give your room a quick update. A beautiful piece of framed artwork should also not go amiss, being the perfect way to add personality and character.

Add some florals

Once the majority of the room has been transformed, create some final finishing touches with a selection of beautiful bouquets. Flowers are a lovely way to decorate your home, and give you the chance to get creative in arranging your bouquets just how you like them! Place florals in elegant vases on bedside tables, dressing tables or shelves for a really easy, quick and cost-effective way to spruce up your space.

A Great Gatsby Dinner Party

Fancy Dress

Bring Jay Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan and Nick Carraway to life with a lavish, exquisitely decorated Great Gatsby inspired party – sure to wow all your friends. If you enjoy party planning then this will be a walk in the park, but even if you don’t, it doesn’t take too long to create the 1920s feel in your home, as well as in your fancy clothing and of course, the menu.

Check out this guide to creating a Great Gatsby dinner party that even F. Scott Fitzgerald would be proud of…

What to Wear

Dive into the 1920s by starting with your clothing – and the clothing suggestions on your invites helps to get everyone ready for the big party.

For the women, this can be the classic flapper dress or something sequined and glamorous that fits the bill. Vintage Dancer is a great online guide to getting the look right as well as offering guidance on where to buy.

The perfect 1920s hairstyles come in all shapes and sizes, but do favour the short bob if you have this. A glitzy headband or slide can really pull off the look – search online for some beautiful creations from this period.

For men, this era was so stylish and affordable, offering the wearer more comfortable and stylish options than the previous era. For the Gatsby look, a timeless black suit with bow tie will do nicely but you can always mix it up with a white suit jacket or even some stripes!

Decoration

Art deco all the way – don’t be shy with going overboard, as the 1920s was not a shy and retiring decade when it came to parties! Golds, silvers, blacks and whites are the colours of choice. You can even buy plastic gold cutlery to give the look a boost, without costing the earth.

Hit the charity shops for some vintage wine and champagne glasses, as well as serving trays and shot glasses. Don’t be afraid to mix and match either, as the relaxed nature of this time means that rules don’t matter as much.

To really get into the theme, find a poker table to really up the ante. Save yourself from a gambling war by only playing for matchsticks as all the champagne and fancy outfits could trick some of your guests into the delusion that they are as wealthy as the Great Gatsby himself!

The Menu

Drinks

Serve up Mint Juleps, Blackberry Gin Fizz and Champagne, of course! And go all out with this fancy recipe for dessert wine gelees with citrus fruit from Martha Stewart.

Appetisers

Little nibbles before the main meal were all the rage, especially devilled eggs and grilled oysters – anything that showed extravagance and intricacy.

Mains

Did you know that the Caesar salad was an invention of the 1920s? Surprisingly, salads were a popular main in this era also including a Waldorf salad made with apples, grapes, celery and nuts. Other favourites include turkey, as well as sausages wrapped in bacon (also known as pigs in blankets).

Desserts

When it comes to time for dessert, this is your chance to really show off your culinary skills. Depending on the dinner party numbers you have, you could offer a selection of desserts.

Here’s a few tasty and fancy looking treats to consider:

Timetable of Events

Be clear with your start time, so that your guests know when to arrive and that you’ll be ready for their arrival.

Next, proportion the evening to suit what you want to show off. If your appetizers are the pièce de résistance then spend more time nibbling on those and enjoying a Mint Julep, rather than placing focus on the main course. You can also refill the appetizer table with more if guests are running late or your dinner prep is behind schedule.

For a timeline of events to try to stick to (this doesn’t need to be given to your guests), this suggestion is a good guideline:

6pm: Guests arrive, drinks are served and appetizers offered.

7pm: Sit down at the dinner table to eat, chat and drink a little more.

8:15pm: Serve the desserts.

9pm: Open up the dining room into the living room (consider room dividers like these for splitting/merging rooms) – allowing more room for mingling and drinks. Followed by some 1920s-inspired music to get people moving in their era attire. Also remember to clear the dinner table, so this area can be used for mingling too…Then it’s drinks and dancing until dawn!
