I have heard a lot of good things about DECLÉOR products but I never had the opportunity to try the products until some weeks ago. For my first DECLÉOR product, I decided to try a serum as my last serum just ran out. I choose the DECLÉOR Prolagene Lift – Intense Youth Concentrate to review, and it has been an amazing product. My first thoughts when I received the product was, how pretty and ‘clean’ the bottle was, and how I couldn’t wait to try this serum out for myself.

DECLÉOR Prolagene Lift – Intense Youth Concentrate Description –

A powerful, intensive firming treatment providing an instant and long-term lift

Especially formulated for mature skin that lacks firmness, this light, delicately scented concentrate delivers an immediate and noticeable lift. Containing the highest concentration of L-Proline Complex, it re-activates and boosts collagen production and tightens and strengthens the structure of the skin to act like a “cell lift”. Other key active ingredients include Iris Essential Oil to boost and protect the skin’s elasticity and suppleness, Hyaluronic Acids to fill in wrinkles both on the surface of the skin and deeper down, and a botanical tensing agent and micro-algae to tighten and smooth the epidermis. With no colouring agents or mineral oils, this gentle yet effective formulation is ideal to use on all skin types, including those with sensitive skin.

How to use

  1. Use as a 3 week intensive duo treatment in the morning and evening.  After cleansing, apply 2 drops to a cleansed face.

My thoughts are below:

PROS

  1. I love the packaging like I mentioned already.
  2. I love the light fragrance of this product. It smells so good.
  3. I have used it every morning and every night, on a cleansed face. I apply this serum just before I apply my moisturiser, and my skin looks a lot brighter and smoother now. I can see a massive difference in my skin.
  4. My face and neck feel well moisturised after applying this product.
  5. This serum helps to improve my skin elasticity and fullness.
  6. This serum is specially formulated for mature skin, but all skin types and tones can use it as well, which is fab.
  7. It is gentle enough to use on the sensitive skin. I know that because I have a sensitive skin and this product is gentle.
  8. It is a 30ml bottle, but you only need to use 2 drops morning, and 2 drops at night, so it goes a long way.
  9. This serum wakes up your face, and gives you a face lift!

CONS

  1. Some may find this DECLÉOR Prolagene Lift – Intense Youth Concentrate pricey at £62 for a 30ml bottle, but I believe it is worth every penny. You get what you pay for when it comes to skin care products. And I have realised that as far as skin care products are concerned, the more money you spend, the better the skin care product. However, you can grab this product at Beautifully Gorgeous (link above) for £51, saving you £11.

I chatted with the talented and beautiful Dr Clare Eluka, the founder of the fantastic Premae Skincare; the world’s 1st freefrom beauty brand. You should remember my review of the Premae Harmony Face Wash and Foundation some weeks back. Well this is the lady behind the magic! Clare Eluka is 1 of 5 most influential women of West African heritage in business. She is a Qualified Allergy practitioner and UK’s Top 20 Natural Beauty Expert.  She previously worked in The Body Shop as a skincare trainer, and at Oriflame as an in-house formulator. So you can imagine how excited I was to have a chat with her. Grab a cuppa and enjoy the read.

1. Can you describe what inspired you to set up the Premae Skincare range and what the brand represents?
I was inspired to create Premae Skincare as I became a Vegan and couldn’t find Vegan skincare that was freefrom nuts, wheat and petrochemicals 5 years ago. Since then, it has become more common, but Premae reigns as the first to be Allergy UK Certified. No other Vegan brand has that certification for now.
2. The Premae Skincare range is the world’s first 100% allergy free natural beauty brand. How do you find the making of natural products?
I trusted my instincts. I began in my kitchen, cooking up balms and cleansers. I mimicked the African and Asian dishes I was cooking that made me feel good. I love curries, so I would use Lemongrass, Ginger and Aloe vera, since it is close to Okra. It was this basic alchemy that developed over 3 years and transpired into a brand with over 40 products.
3. What makes Premae Skincare different from other natural and organic brands?
The formulations of my products are Alkaline. This means the scientific properties of the end formulae are between 6-14 PH Neutral or Alkaline. This is powerful and aids the fast and longterm results of clear, balances skin. Other brands weaken their formulae with acidic chemicals. Our molecular structure are alkaline – electric, vibrational perfect.
4. In your foundation range, there is a shade for every colour, which is amazing. What do you think many brands shy away from extending their lines to accommodate the different shades of colour?
I guess that don’t really care. They know that women will buy what ever is put in front of them. So we moan but we still buy. If women of all shades demanded better products by not purchasing, the wider industry would listen. It has provided a great platform for a new brand like Premae to shine.

5. I read an old interview you had a while ago, and you said your best-selling foundation shade was the #2 Quinoa, and that 97% of your customers are white women and saying black women do not support each other in general. I agree 100%, very few of us actually support each other. Is that still the case with the clientele or has it improved?
I am pleased to say that since Sept 2015, the demographic of Premae consumers has evened out, with 60% white and European, 30% black Afro-Carribean and the rest is a mix of Asian and Eastern European. This is fantastic and I hope it continues.
6. What would you advise anyone thinking of setting up a vegan skincare range now?
I would urge them to think about their unique selling point. The market is crowded, yet there is always room for a new comer. Work in the beauty industry for 2 years, learn management, finance and marketing strategy. Surround yourself with a small group of advisors, mentors and stay positive.
7. Where do you see Premae Skincare in 5 years?
In every bathroom on the planet!

Product Review: Dermalogica Age Smart Overnight Retinol Repair

I fell in love with Dermalogica products sometime last year. I tried a few of their products and they were seriously the best. So when the lovely people of Beautifully Gorgeous got in touch to offer me this product to review, I jumped at the chance. I have always wanted to try out this Dermalogica Age Smart Overnight Retinol Repair, which includes a Buffer Cream. I turn 30 next year, and I must confess, until very recently, I have been neglecting my skin, and just assumed I will be forever young. How funny is that? Thank God I have seen the light.

Since I started beauty blogging, I realised how much care and attention I should be giving my skin, and I have tried my hands on quite a few beauty products, and Dermalogica products usually stand out every time. Here is what Dermalogica has to say about this Age Smart Overnight Retinol Repair and Buffer Cream:

Turn back the clock with this powerful treatment cream. Targeting uneven skin tone, discoloration and wrinkles, AGE Smart® Overnight Retinol Repair reduces the appearance of skin aging overnight. It contains active microencapsulated pure Retinol, a powerful ingredient that helps boost collagen production and cell turnover. Comes with a moisturising Buffer Cream to help skin adjust to the Retinol.

Note: Should not be used less than 72 hours after exfoliation or 2 weeks before a holiday in the sun. This is due to the Retinol which can cause burning to the skin if not used as directed. Please refer to the instructions before use.

How to use

For best results, mix one part Overnight Retinol Repair with up to three parts Buffer Cream. Apply to cleansed skin at night, when cell renewal is at its prime. Once your skin is acclimated, you can use Overnight Retinol Repair alone, prior to or mixed with your prescribed Dermalogica moisturiser.

I have been using both products for a few weeks now, so here are my thoughts –

PROS

  1. They reduce laughter lines. I had an annoying laughter line in my mouth area that shows up every now and again, and the appearance has reduced since I started using both products.
  2. My skin feels and looks a lot firmer.
  3. No artificial fragrances, colours or parabens in both Dermalogica products.
  4. A little goes a long way, so this 30ml Overnight Retinol Repair, and 15ml Buffer Cream may look small, they will go a long way.
  5. My skin tone is improved. I had a bit of skin hyperpigmentation o my face while I was pregnant and some of it didn’t go away after childbirth, but since I started using these products, I can see a visible improvement.
  6. Both products accelerates the skin renewal process.
