Mixing Vintage with Modern

I am beginning to embrace the vintage side. I was never really interested in vintage until a few years ago. But I am happy to say I am now completely sold on it. I have featured a couple of vintage posts this year and they were well received, so I know a lot of my readers have the same feelings towards vintage.

What I like most about vintage is the fact that I can step out looking great and be 100% sure that the likelihood of me running into anyone wearing anything I have on is almost impossible. With vintage, the chances of that happening are really slim. I also love mixing vintage with modern pieces. I think it is a super stylish trend that will always be in vogue, and I think it it is the best way to go if you are into vintage pieces.

I recently came across Rokit – A Women’s Vintage Clothing Online Store, and I immediately fell in love with the stunning pieces. It is a vintage wonderland with various beautiful collections of vintage clothing and accessories. Rokit has been Keepin’ It Vintage since 1986 and they are still slaying!

So many pieces and accessories caught my eye on the website, there are so many options that I wish I a few favourites of mine –

80s Bold Patterned Blouse

This blouse would been an amazing summer addition. It would look so stylish with rolled up sleeves and dark sunglasses. It would also look great paired with shorts, a cami top and a hat.

I love how bright it is. It is a beautiful blouse and it currently retails at £25 only.

1980s Tropical Print Dress

This bold and beautiful Tropical Print Mini Dress is another beauty I currently have my eye on. The lightweight cotton fabric and winged sleeves are great summer clothing features to have. This would look lovely paired with ankle boots and socks while it is still cool, and sandals when it gets warmer.

It currently retails at £35 only.

80’s Black Trench Coat

I am in need of a trench coat for spring, and this piece ticks all the right boxes. It is black, comes in a simple design and medium weight. I love the flowing fall and waist belt. The welt pockets and notched collar are also right up my alley!

It currently retails at £70.

Best Tech Gifts for Easter

I am slowly becoming a tech freak, I am usually not bothered with gadgets and all, but these days I find myself lusting after various cool gadgets. I am currently in need of a few new gadgets, so it has got me spending me more and more time on various tech websites, so I thought writing a Best Tech Gifts for Easter post would be a great idea, since that is all I do nowadays.

I am currently lusting after these –

Ion Max LP Dark Wood USB Conversion Turntable

This Ion Max LP Dark Wood USB Conversion Turntable reminds me of my childhood. Music is one of my first loves, I grew up listening to music so this gadget here does not surprise me. We had a similar one growing up, and I remember listening to cool jams on it. I really like the dark wood finish and the fact that it has built-in stereo speakers. I think it is really cool!

I would love to have this in my home. It currently retails on HMV for £79.99, and I think that is a great price for it. What do you think?

Canon EOS M10

I have my regular Canon DSLR but I am now in need of a compact system camera that is light weight, with all the features of a DSLR and with WiFi. Is that too much to ask? Well Canon doesn’t think so since they have created just the camera I need. I came across this Canon EO3 M10 and it looks like just what I need and more. I just need it to go on sale now.

It currently retails at £279 in most tech stores which is a great price but I would love a sale price all the same. Do you own a compact system camera?

Canon EF-M 22MM Pancake Lens

I will want this Pancake Lens to go with my Canon Compact Camera. I have heard great things about this lens and I have seen firsthand what stunning images it can take.

I think it would be a great travel companion, alongside the Canon EOS M10. It currently retails at £179 in most stores. Have you tried this lens before?

Apple Macbook Air

My HP Laptop is slowly driving me crazy. It keeps restarting itself multiple times a day. Sometimes I end up losing my work in the process and it has become very frustrating using it.

I have heard a lot of good things about the Apple Macbook Air, so I am seriously contemplating getting one. If you own one, or any other Macbook, pls tell me what you like and don’t like about it, so I decide on which one to get.

What do you think of these gadgets? Which gadget catches your eye the most?

The Grass is not Always Greener

I came across the current news all over the internet, about a certain popular American Fashion Blogger – Shaniqua Jordan, being arrested and charged with credit card fraud! She was allegedly shopping with her customers credit cards (she has an online jewellery store); buying luxury fashion items of about $37,000, and showing them off on Instagram. Shaniqua Jordan is known for her love for high-end designer items and these items usually keep her fans increasing and followers talking.

I can see how Shaniqua Jordan would have been tempted to do what she has been accused of doing. As an insider, I see it everyday on social media and it is quite sad to see the amount of pressure many fashion bloggers put on themselves to look the part and it is really not worth the stress! Fashion Blogging isn’t all about styling expensive pieces. There is a lot more to it. I see many people walking around in expensive outfits that look horrid, so it’s not just about the price tag of what you wear.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love luxury items a lot. I like how real leather feels and smells. I love shopping in the high-end stores, and I love the quality high street stores as well. Give me Gucci, Givenchy, and all them big luxury brands any day, I would have them all if I could.

If I could afford a Birkin, I would have it. If I could afford a Rolex watch, I would go for it. But my reality today is that I can’t, and I am comfortable with what I can afford. I am happy to blog about what I can afford, and that is the key.

Many bloggers are not happy to show off what they can afford, and that is the main problem. They want to be like the “mega big bloggers” they follow online. So they end up having a massive debt in the name of fashion blogging, or steal to keep up with the fake online image. And this issue is not only in the blogging industry, it is a general problem. Too many people want all the flashy things but without the work.

I can imagine how anyone could be pressured to live a lie thanks to the power of social media, with the amazing shots, perfect spouses, well behaved children, beautiful house, many holidays and perfect outfits. It is easy to want these same things and there is no harm in wanting them as far as you are ready to earn them honestly. So if you want to go on more holidays or buy nicer things, start saving, if you want your house to look pretty, clean it more often, if you want to be able to afford luxury items, get a better paying job or increase your income streams. Be prepared to do what you can to elevate your lifestyle in an honest way.

Another point I would love to make is, when it comes to social media, especially Instagram (which seems to be notorious for showing off picture perfect lives), take all you see with a pinch of salt. Most of the time, it is not what or how it seems, so don’t be deceived. Instead, admire what you like, but always focus on your reality and own it! Believe me, life is too short to do anything else.

What do you think?
