5 Popular Piercing Trends To Follow

*Collaborative post.

Piercings are a great accessory that can really lift an outfit but they are quite tricky. If you don’t match your piercings well with the rest of the outfit or you choose piercings that aren’t quite right for you, it can ruin your look entirely. Certain people can pull off more piercings than others and they’ll look fine with lots of large pieces, but other people need to go for something more understated.

Trends in piercings change quickly as well so it’s important that you change your piercings regularly to stay relevant. If you’ve been wearing the same few pairs of earrings for as long as you can remember, it might be time for a change. These are some of the latest trends in piercings to give you some inspiration.

Layering Lobe Piercings

The earlobes are the most common place to get a piercing and most people tend to wear either a small stud in the lobes or maybe something a bit larger like a dangly statement piece. But one of the latest trends is layering your lobe piercings on top of one another. Instead of just one single piercing or a few that are layered horizontally, a lot of people are stacking them vertically instead.

If you’re going to go for this look, you have to balance the two earrings well. Obviously, you can’t wear two dangly earrings over the top of one another because they’re just going to look messy. But if you pair a dangly earring with a nice understated stud above it, it looks great. You can also use two or three rings in an ascending pattern up the lobe, just make sure that they’re colours and designs that compliment one another well.

Rook Piercings

In the past, earlobe piercings were considered the norm and anything outside of that wasn’t always considered fashionable in the mainstream. But in the years since, cartilage piercings have become a lot more popular and people are using more interesting constellations of piercings rather than one simple piercing on the lobe. But it’s only in the last few years that rook piercings have become more popular. The rook is the area of the ear right in the centre, and a lot of people use it as the centrepiece for the rest of their piercings. It’s also the ideal accessory for a work outfit because you can easily cover it with your hair if needs be, but if you want to display it then you can tuck your hair behind your ears.

Orbital Piercings

Orbital piercings are a trend that has been around for a while but they’re only now entering mainstream fashion. An orbital piercing is one single piece of jewellery that connects two piercings. In the past, things like dangling chains were popular orbital piercings but they’re not particularly elegant and they aren’t ideal if you want a more formal understated look. But there are some great pieces of orbital jewellery that are a bit more stylish than a large chain.

Jewelled Septum Piercings

Septum piercings, often referred to as the bull ring piercing, are a popular nose piercing that is more widespread than ever. It was traditionally associated with a more edgy punk look but now people of all different styles are using it. One of the latest trends is a jewelled nose ring for septum piercings instead of a plain one. When you’re trying to put an outfit together and you’ve got a septum piercing, you can choose a nice ring with a coloured jewel that matches with the colours in the rest of your outfit. It’s a better way to incorporate your piercings into the outfit and tie it all together.

Belly Button Piercings

Belly button piercings or navel piercings used to be so popular but they fell out of fashion for a while, especially in older people. There was a preconception about belly button piercings that you can have them when you’re young and once you pass the age of 25, but that’s just not true. If you pick the right piece of jewellery for your piercing, a navel piercing can look very elegant and classy, which is why they’re coming back into fashion. Belly button piercings are becoming more popular with people of all ages and there is a lot more choice when it comes to buying jewellery for your belly button piercings. Small hoops, in particular, are very popular right now.

Piercings are a great way to accessorize if you get it right. Just follow these popular piercing trends and you’ll be able to give your outfits a boost.

Why I Deleted My Second Blog

When it comes to blogging, I strongly believe for you to be successful as a blogger, you need to write a blog you would like to read. Which is why I write on Fashion and Style Police the way I do. We have different types of niches we love reading. I love reading a variety of topics and I enjoy reading them on the same blog. From fashion and beauty, to travel and lifestyle topics. For me to be a regular reader of a blog, I need to like the blog layout and design, the writing tone, the blogger behind the blog and the topics covered.

I hardly read purely fashion or beauty blogs these days. I tend to read more lifestyle blogs because they cover a variety of topics, so I am sure I would find posts I am interested in reading while scrolling through. Plus the advancement of social media means I get to see outfit and beauty posts steady on my feed (thank you Instagram), so reading a personal style blog or a makeup blog would be too much of a hassle, except the blog covered other topics I enjoy reading like parenting and blogging tips.

Write a blog you would like to read

The trick to blogging is to make sure your content reflects you. So write whatever you feel like writing and own it!  Don’t let it be all about reviews, PR samples, affiliate links and paid posts. Let your content be more of what you feel like writing about and just do you! Many people would say having a varied blog like I do wouldn’t work. They would say I need to stick to 1 or 2 related niches, and set up another blog for the other niches I am interested in writing about. I did that in the early days. I had another blog set up purely for reviews and it was so boring. It was not a blog I would want to read, which is why I deleted it after 9 months. That experience has taught me to ignore the noise and everyone’s opinion of how I should blog and just focus on publishing the right content that I would like to read.

Any regrets?

I have no regrets. Deleting the review blog was the right decision and I would delete it again if I had the chance. I played around with a niche blog and it didn’t work. I realised quickly that this was no right for me, and I decided to implement reviews into Fashion and Style Police, and the rest is history. The review blog was set up and deleted about 4 years ago, so it is not a recent development. It is just a way of me explaining why niche blogging is not my thing. I think it is because we are forever evolving as humans. Life happens and sometimes we just don’t like what we used to like anymore. It may change for me in a few years, who knows. But right now, I enjoy blogging this way and I am content with having just 1 blog. No niche blogging here.
