How to make your birthday in lockdown feel as special as possible

*Collaborative post.

It’s become a depressingly familiar force of habit in recent years – scrolling through your social media feed in the morning and passively taking note of whose birthday it is, sending a generic Happy Birthday message and getting on with your day.

In a pre-lockdown world, this was fine, as we all had other things to look forward to on our birthdays. However, with so many of us now sequestered in our homes when we would rather be out celebrating with our friends and family members on our ‘big days’, that virtual birthday message needs a serious rethink.

Anyone who is celebrating a quarantine birthday between now and the end of the year is probably in the same boat though. So, rather than relying on your Facebook friends to do something special (because let’s face it, they probably won’t – they have their own stuff to deal with right now), take your lockdown birthday into your own hands this year by considering the following:-

Make a cake

Not only are we all trying to avoid supermarkets as much as possible right now, there’s something undeniably more special about making your own birthday cake from scratch. It’s not a particularly difficult bake either, as long as you’re willing to keep it simple. Where you definitely shouldn’t keep it simple, however, is in the decoration!

Glam up the house

We’ve all become so used to seeing the same four walls, so wouldn’t it be nice to give them a little bit of a temporary makeover on our birthday? The obvious first step is to splash out on some birthday balloons to spread around the home, but why stop there? Going really over the top can make it feel more special, after all. Although balloons have their charm and nostalgia, there are other alternatives that can add a more modern and eye-catching flair to an event space. Inflatables, in particular, are a great way to switch up decorations while still keeping the lightheartedness associated with parties. Inflatables come in all shapes and sizes, so they’re perfect for adding an extra touch of festivity and fun to any occasion. And as these options are customizable, you can even make your own inflatables with specific designs by creating drafts of inflatables that will later become a reality. So instead of stringing up traditional balloon decorations when you plan an event or celebration; consider some creative alternatives for an interesting new way to set the tone for your festivities.

Glam up yourself

You’ve probably spent every other day in your pyjamas but your birthday is one day where you can afford to spend a little time pampering yourself, regardless of whether or not anyone will actually see the fruits of your labours. So go glam and get your friends to do likewise before logging onto that group chat.

Brunch with friends

The bottomless brunch has become a bit of a birthday cliche in recent years so spoiling yourself with bottomless food and booze on  Zoom might actually make it seem a little bit more special? Virtual birthday parties might become the rule rather than the exception going forward, so start now before it becomes another boring chore. You could even go a step further and create some interesting drinking games.

Make it into a joke

Finally, with everything so deathly serious right now on a global scale, try not to take your birthday too seriously. It’s a ridiculous situation and there’s no better way to survive a ridiculous situation than by laughing through it.

Fashion and Style? What’s the difference..

Fashion can be easily confused with style but they are very difference. Fashion is all what is going on in the fashion industry; the  trends and what is in vogue. While style is what is going on in your wardrobe. It is your personal taste and how you mix and match your pieces/accessories to create your signature look. With this current pandemic many people are taking a break from the fashion world and working with their work from home signature pieces. If you don’t have a capsule wardrobe, you may struggle in this current time with what to wear.

One of the many beauties of having a capsule wardrobe is that you have a wardrobe that is complementary. You never run out of what to wear with a capsule wardrobe and that is how your personal style is created. With mixing and matching of different pieces and accessories, your style is born. Fashion is what you get in the stores. Style is what you do with it.

Relationship Problems Image

Here are some easy ways to spot the differences between fashion and style –

Fashion is your relationship with the fashion world

Fashion is your relationship with the external. It is what you see on the fashion blogs, social media, runaway, on the high street and advertisements. Fashion is what the fashion designers give to you everyday. Fashion is very out there.

Style is your relationship with your signature look

Style is your relationship with the internal. It is what you see when you shop around. Style is your personal taste which creates your capsule wardrobe. Style is very personal.

Fashion is about them, style is you

Fashion is about everything else going on in the fashion industry outside of you, style is what is happening within you.

The best way to look at this is understanding the fact that fashion and Style are very different but they are both needed. You can’t have one without the other and you really shouldn’t. I love my Fashion and I adore my style. They both make me who I am.

What are your thoughts?

Home Organisation Jobs To Do During Quarantine

Quarantine has been an odd time for all of us, and has marked the longest stretch of time many of us have been at home for a long time. But being at home doesn’t mean there is nothing useful and fun to do, and today we want to share some house and garden jobs you can do during quarantine to organise your stuff!

Clear the wardrobe

Over the year many of us end up collecting clothes we never wear, or clothes that are a little too small that we eventually plan to fit into. But now is the time to make a change and organise your wardrobe for good. Take some time this week to go through every part of your wardrobe and try everything on. Only keep things you love, things you wear, and things that have genuine sentimental value. Everything else? Either sell online through Vinted or get rid!

Minimise your furniture

After a long time living in the same house; and in this case staring at the same four walls every single day, it is time for a change. Grab yourself some secure storage units and think about clearing out the rooms of your house to make them more minimalist. You don’t need THAT much furniture, and once you have tried life without some of those small tables and cupboards that clutter up the space, you’ll likely find out that you don’t need them at all. Once you know what you want to keep and get rid of, sell items online and make some money in lockdown.

Tidy the garden

The house isn’t the only part of your home that can be changed and organised this year; the garden can be worked on too. Simple ways to spruce up the garden during lockdown is to clean up the flowerbed borders, weed the garden, and prune your large shrubs and trees into more manageable sizes and shapes. Have fun playing around with the look and feel of your outdoor space and it will make a huge difference.

Organise the loft

The loft is a part of the house which is often taken for granted and neglected, but this week you can make a positive change and finally rid yourself of the useless clutter you don’t need. Clearing out the loft might take a fair bit of time, but it will be more than worth it when you have extra space to store items you plan to keep for years to come.

Clear your pantry

Another part of the house that can sometimes be forgotten about is the pantry. If you are looking for a useful job to tackle today, the pantry is a great option. In an hour or so you will be able to rid yourself of out of date food, foods you simply won’t eat, and you can even extend your efforts to the freezer and tidy that up too.

Take time this week to identify different areas of your home that can be better organised, and sit down and get these niggling jobs out of the way!
