Holiday Digital Detox

Holidays

Have you ever planned to go on holiday, and not check emails, Facebook, Instagram, blogs, and other social media platforms? Was your holiday digital detox successful, or did it crash and burn after a few hours, with you hungrily logging on to Twitter, to see what you have missed? The whole idea of going on holiday, is so you can relax, unwind and have a good time, but many of us cannot stay away from whatever we call work, and social media.

As a full-time blogger, I have accepted the fact that I cannot go on holiday and have a full digital detox. I can go a few hours, but at the end of the day, I will have to log on and see what is happening. That is the major issue with being a blogger, you can’t just decide to log off social media and your blog for too long, if you do, your blog will likely suffer the repercussions of you being away.

However, before I became a blogger, I could go days without going on social media.  Having a holiday digital detox would have been a walk in the park for me then, so I know it is possible, but the question is, how many people actually do it? We are currently in a fast pace, technology driven society, and many of us are addicted to social media and blogs.

A new research carried out by an online travel agency – Sunshine, has uncovered a lot about the whole holiday digital detoxing, in terms of how long the average tech-free plan lasts for. According to the findings, holidaymakers who plan to go on a complete holiday digital detox, give in after just six hours into their holiday, on average; with social media being the main lure.

A recent poll that was carried out in the UK by Sunshine, revealed that many failed in their pursuit of a technology-free holiday, and 54% of the total respondents who took part in the poll said that they used technology more on holiday than they did at home. Wow who knew!?

The top 5 answers were as follows:
1.    I wanted to look/post on social media – 32%
2.    I needed to check something work-related (e.g. emails) – 27%
3.    I forgot I had planned a digital detox/force of habit – 21%
4.    I needed to call/message back home – 16%
5.    I got bored – 2%

Now, I will fall into the number 1 and 2. I will need to check and respond to emails at some point while on holiday, and I will need to check social media, even if it is just once a day, while on holiday. I can never see myself at this stage in my life, having a full holiday digital detox, it just won’t work. I will break in 24 hours, to check my blog, lol.

What I do see myself doing, and what I need to do, is to have a WHOLE day off social media, blogs and emails. I think I am becoming too addicted to the whole social media thingy, so I am planning a day off it completely. I will see how that goes, and then I may plan a whole weekend off.

I tweeted about this some days ago, and chatted with Alice; who blogs at Zest of Alice. We chatted about the benefits of having a digital detox every now and again. She wrote a lovely post about how she quit social media, only to go back on it, so check out her blog post, if you are in need of a good read.

Have you ever planned a digital detox while on holiday? How did it go?

5 Things To Do In Dubai

UAE Holiday

If you read my previous Lifestyle Post, you would know I am holiday-sick. I guess that is why this post is dedicated to my holiday in Dubai, my best holiday till date.

A Day In Dubai

I visited Dubai awhile ago and I am really looking forward to visiting again. It has been the best holiday I have ever had in my life. From the 1st class service from the Qatar crew, to the beautiful room and fantastic service at the Four Points Sheraton hotel, and then the lovely tourist attractions. Our 10 day stay was AMAZING.

Dubai

Dubai is a holiday destination like no other. The city comes alive with the hustle and bustle, beautiful beaches and fascinating local culture. It can serve as a great family destination, a romantic escape or a girls holiday, there is something for everyone. No wonder it is the number 1 tourist attraction in the world. There is no dull moment in Dubai, there is always something to do.

Dubai Holiday

If I had another day in Dubai, this is how I will spend it:

Go On A Bus Tour

We went on a bus tour with Big Bus Tour and we explored the entire of Dubai, stopping at attractions we were interested in exploring, and getting back on the bus at allocated bus stops. It was a whole day of touring and it was so much fun.

Visit the Safari Desert

Dubai Dessert

Belly Dancer

We visited the Safari Desert and we will definitely visit it again. The crazy ride to and fro was fun, we were screaming all through. The belly dancer was a great entertainer, she kept us transfixed with her flexible moves. The food was great, a lot better than I expected and I even had a ‘lali’ design done.

Visit A Souk

Gold Souk

I will love to visit a souk again, even if it is just to have a feel of the traditional market and feed my eyes. Make sure you haggle to get best prices for gold, textiles and spices. you are sure to find cool bargains in a souk.

Go To Dubai Museum

Dubai Museam

I love discovering various cultures and part of what I wanted to do while on holiday in Dubai, was to learn more about their history and culture. I will be visiting the museum again to refresh my mind.

Visit Atlantis, The Palm Resort

Lost Chambers

I saved the best for last. Even if I don’t do any of the above, I MUST visit Atlantis, The Palm Resort again. This resort houses various heart pumping water slides like Leap of Faith, The Lost Chambers Aquarium, filled with sharks, eels and seahorses, which is a beauty to behold, and lots fun.

If I could have one wish, it would be to spend another day in Dubai. If you want a holiday destination with plenty of sunshine and fun, I urge you to book a holiday to Dubai with Travelbag.

Have you visited Dubai? Do you have any holidays booked for this year? Drop me a comment, let’s chat.

Thanks for reading.

Beauty Travel Essentials

I am planning my next vacation in my head. Nothing has been booked yet but I am thinking somewhere warm and sunny like Dubai or Vegas would be fantastic. Especially now as the sunshine is gradually leaving the UK, it would be nice to escape to a warm region. The online travel specialist; Love Holidays is carrying out a research on people’s travel behaviours; what motivates us to go abroad, do we keep to baggage allowance and what your beauty travel essentials are?

The weather plays a major role in deciding where I spend my holiday. Since we hardly ever have good weather in the UK, I tend to opt for warmer countries where it is nice and sunny, and where I can dress up in my summer outfits and rock my sunnies for some days.

I always try to travel light but most times I end up with excess luggage, especially now that we have kids. It is so hard to travel light when going on holiday. There is just so much junk we need to go with, it is unbelievable. Then we come back with even more junk, guess because we love to shop too much.

The online travel specialist; Love Holidays will is carrying a research I cannot afford to go on holiday without my beauty products. They may be bulky to travel with but I would be lost without them. Here are my beauty travel essentials:

MAKEUP

I travel with my entire makeup bag. Crazy but true. It makes my life easier because I can’t be bothered picking out what to travel with and what not to. I may have to change this in future when my beauty products increase, they seem to be increasing a lot these days , but for now, I pack them.

HAIR

I like rocking a simple hairstyle when I am on holiday because I usually spend a lot of time relaxing in the pool or on a beach. Any fussy hairstyle will be messed up pretty quickly. I usually take a hair spray, a hair polish and a V05 Extreme Style Rework Fibre Putty  with me depending on the hairstyle I have on.

SKIN

When I go on holiday, I make sure I look after my skin just as I would, so I take these products with me:

  • Fair and White Moisturiser which contains SPF.
  • Vita Coco Coconut Oil
  • Garnier makeup remover
  • Marykay Face Toner
  • Some cotton wool
  • Huggies Baby Wipes

I cannot go on holiday without any of these items. Guess this explains why I always end up with an excess luggage.

Now over to you. What motivates you to go abroad? What are your travel beauty essentials? Do you exceed your baggage allowance? Leave me a comment, let’s chat.
