Beauty Muse – Meghan Markle

Prince Harry’s love interest, the beautiful American actress – Meghan Markle, famous for her role as Rachel Zane in the USA legal drama Suits, is my Beauty Muse. Let me tell you why.

I recently started watching Suits on Netflix, and I am blown away by this 35-year-old beauty and her amazing acting skills. I think she is drop dead gorgeous. I did a bit of research on her and found out she the famous woman I have heard so much about this year. I knew Prince Harry was dating an American lady, but never knew her name or what she looked like until today. I think she is a stunner! A fine Princess in the making.

I think Meghan Markle has an amazing skin. I love how flawless it looks and I am also in love with her smile, I think it is so pretty.

Here are some of Markle’s beauty secrets; you may want to take notes –

The Importance of Facials

‘When I was 13 years old, my mom had me start getting facials in my hometown of Los Angeles,’ Meghan wrote on The Tig. ‘It seemed so silly at the time, trekking in my school uniform to see a woman named Anika who slathered my skin with Yon-Ka products and chatted away about the importance of eye cream.

‘My mom would give Anika a check (and usually some fruit she picked up for her at the farmers market, because she’s thoughtful that way) and we would drive home with my mom, ever the little bird in my ear, saying, “You must always take care of your skin.”‘

Kudos to her mother for setting her on the right path to a great skincare routine. It is never too late or early to start paying attention to your skin.

Skipping Makeup

When Meghan isn’t filming, you’ll rarely find her in a full face of make-up. ‘I wear so much make-up for work that when I have a day off, I don’t like to wear it at all,’ she told Express.co.uk. ‘I’ll put on moisturizer, a little bit of highlighter on my cheekbones and that’s it.’

I am happy I am not alone in thinking makeup should not be worn everyday. It ruins the skin.

Natural Hair Transition Progress

If you have been reading Fashion and Style Police for a while, you would know all about my natural hair transition (well if you didn’t know, you know now). So this is an update on my natural hair transition progress so far.

My hair has grown a lot longer and thicker since my last natural hair transition update. I am happy with how it looks, my hair has not looked this healthy in ages. My edges are back and they look amazing. I am really happy with the overall look of my hair. I think it is transitioning beautifully, and I am impressed.

For those who wonder how I maintain my natural hair, here is how my monthly routine looks like:

Cornrows

I have my hair in cornrows for about a month. I do this because it is easier for me to treat and manage my hair, and I can still wear my wigs when I want, which is the best of both worlds for me. When I have my cornrows on, I moisturise with water and oil from a spray bottle every day and my T444Z Hair Food every other day.

Take  Off the Cornrows

Once I take off my cornrows, I deep conditioned my hair with Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque. I leave on for 30 minutes, then I give my hair a very good wash with Shea Mositure Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo and Restorative Conditioner.

Moisturise

After the wash, I moisturise with water and oil from a spray bottle. I usually mix Olive, Argan or Coconut oil with the water to lock in the hair moisture. I am currently using Elasta QP Olive Oil and Mango Butter Growth Moisturizer and I find it just ok. I won’t be using it again though because it has a very thick consistency which makes mixing with water a pain in the behind, and I didn’t notice any massive growth increase either.

I also use my good old African Pride Shea Butter Miracle Leave-in conditioner every day to lock in even more moisture. I am so in love with this particular product. I think it is so effective.

I usually have my natural hair loose for about 2 weeks before getting the cornrows done again. That time gives my hair some breathing space and the natural hair routine seems to be working fine.

I am yet to do the big/small chop and I doubt it will ever get done because my relaxed ends seem to be turning natural already. I will give it a few more months and see if I need to have a chop of any sort at all.

Why you shouldn’t wear makeup everyday

For most women, putting on makeup is a daily routine. Although makeup can enhance your beauty and make you feel more confident about yourself, it can negatively affect your skin. You may not see it now but as years go by, your skin goes on a gradual decline as it loses its health and vigor.

If you’re the type of person who uses makeup everyday, knowing what exactly makeup can do to your skin can help you prevent your skin from being damaged and your overall system from being harmed. Here are some reasons why you should take a leaf from Alicia Keys’ book, and ease up on your makeup usage. Trust me your skin will thank you for it.

  1. Clogged pores

This is the most common problem faced by women. Applying layers of makeup everyday can clog your pores. When your pores are clogged, your pores do not get the chance to breathe. Clogged pores are the number one cause of acne as grime and dirt from the makeup block the pores. This is what causes pimples to start forming on your skin. The pimples are pores that were infected and got inflamed. Pimples cause dark spots and destroy the overall look of your face.

  1. Chemicals get absorbed in your skin

Most makeup contain a lot of chemicals. These chemicals can be extremely harmful to your skin and your body. As you apply makeup on your face, your skin absorbs those harmful chemicals into your bloodstream. As you keep applying makeup, it creates a buildup of those chemicals in your system. Some of the chemicals found in makeup are sodium benzoate, propylene glycol, parabens and carcinogens.

  1. Applying makeup everyday may cause some parts of your face to wear away

Constant use of makeup will start thinning down sensitive parts of your face. For example, regular use of mascara can cause your eyelashes to thin down and break even though mascara is expected to make your eyelashes look longer and more pronounced. The reason why this happens is because of the type of chemicals contained in the mascara. In order for the mascara to be more effective, the level of those harmful chemicals is enhanced and this causes negative effects on your lashes.

  1. May cause you severe allergies

We all have different skin types and different kinds of makeup affects us in different ways. Prolonged use of makeup could cause your skin to grow sensitive and you may end up with a rash with each application of makeup. When not checked, this rash will get red and inflamed which will cause more harm to your skin. What causes the allergic reaction is the level of harmful chemicals contained in that particular makeup brand. The more you use it, the more your allergies will aggravate.

Now I am not saying you should not wear makeup. That will be hypocritical because I do wear makeup a few times a week, and I would have worn it everyday if I had an office to go to but since I work from home, I can’t be bothered to look glam half the time. What I am saying is make sure you wear your makeup safely and give your face a day or 2 each week to breathe without makeup. Also make sure you wipe every trace off and moisturised properly before going to bed, no matter how tired you are.

Thanks for reading and have a fab day wherever you are.
