How to Style your Wide Hips

A lot of women look at fashion magazines and their heart sinks, when they see models with the “perfect” bodies. As they flip through the pages, they start to wonder why they were not blessed with such amazing figures? The truth is that there’s no such thing as the “perfect” body. Every figure is perfect as long as you know how to style it. Dressing for your body type is the key.
Many of these celebrities we look up to and admire have wide hips, like Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Amber Rose, Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé, and they are rocking them like divas. When wide hips balance out your whole body, it gives you a sexy figure. But when your hips are far wider than the other parts of the body, you need a couple of styling hacks to get you through.

Having wide hips does not mean that your figure is not attractive. The trick is to aim for a balance. The key to styling wide hips is to direct focus away from the hips and to other parts of your body, so your bust, waist and legs.

Here are some styling tips for you:

Say NO to Bright Colours

Make sure you avoid bright colours, patterns or any type of accessories anywhere in the hip region. They attract attention to your hips.
If you have wide-hips, and you have trouble finding the right clothes to style your figure, then I’ve got you covered.

Cover Up

Tunics and shirts, that reach the middle of your hips or below your bum region, help create a balance with your figure. Make sure that the hemlines of your tunic or shirt is loose so that it flares out. This helps create more room for your hips. If you like, you can wear a waist belt over your shirt to keep the focus on your waist and way from your hips.

No Lyca

Although tunics and shirts help in balancing your figure, you need to be extra careful with the type of fabric you choose. Avoid fabrics that hug your body like fitted polyester or lycra. They make your hips look bigger. The same goes for woolly clothing.

Wrap Dresses Are Needed

Tops with empire-cut waistlines or wrap dresses help cover your hips by accentuating your waist and flaring out to your hips thereby keeping your hips away from view.

Layer with a Long Jacket

There may be times when you would like to wear a shirt or top that does not cover your hips. In such a situation, go for a long jacket that reaches your bum area or flows up to your knees. The long jacket will hide your hips and create that needed balance.

Go for Trousers with a Higher Waist

When styling your figure, you need to take attention away from your hips. Trousers with a high waist give you that most needed balance as it diverts attention from your hips and makes your legs appear longer.

Wear A-line Clothing and Straight Skirts

A-line clothing and straight skirts cover the hips and give you a lovely figure. A-line clothing starts at your waistline and flare out all the way to your knees. This way it covers the hips and accentuates the waist. If you want to go for an A-line dress, try the ones with a plunging neckline. This will help create additional focus on your torso.

Straight skirts help to maintain a line such that the hips are in proportion with the rest of your body.

Style with Shoulder Pads

I can see you rolling your eyes at this tip BUT it is a very clever way of creating a balance in your figure. Shoulder pads make the shoulders appear wider. Coupled with your wide hips, it makes your frame look square which helps to prevent your hips from attracting any extra attention.

Celebrity Fashion: Beyoncé vs Bella Hadid in Givenchy

Who wore it better image

I featured Bella Hadid this month on the blog. She is the cover girl for Elle UK July issue, and that was my first time placing a name to the face. So I was happy to see her rocking the same outfit with Beyoncé. Both ladies are wearing the same black and silver-beaded Givenchy Fall 2015 Couture two-piece suit, but styled differently.

Beyoncé had hers on at the 2016 CFDA Fashion Awards, held at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, where she won the ‘Fashion Icon’ award. And she styled her suit with a black wide brim hat, a black ruffled high-neck lace top, black peep-toe platform pumps and finished the look with Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Bella Hadid wore her Givenchy suit a month ago at the De Grisogono Cannes party. She styled her suit with a sparkly top and a pair of black Giuseppe Zanotti sandals.

Who do you think wore it better?

I am on the fence with both looks and I can’t seem to decide on which look I prefer. I think Beyoncé would have slayed this outfit if she didn’t have that massive hat on. I am not a fan of hat, I think it is a bit too much.

I love Bella’s look. I think she looks amazing, and those Giuseppe Zanotti sandals have my full attention. They finish up the look nicely. But I am not liking the choker necklace she has on. I think it ruined her look. I would have loved to see her neck bare because the top is so over the top and sparkly, it would have been perfect to have the attention on the top and the suit, but the choker necklace messes that up.

So I can’t decide. A Beyoncé without the hat would have been brilliant, and a Bella without the choker necklace would have been perfect!

If you have been reading Fashion and Style Police for a while now, you will know how passionate I am about the Laser Hair Removal Treatment science. I think it is the best beauty treatment ever. I just finished my laser hair removal treatment on my chin, I still have 1 treatment to go, but I am saving that for when I do need it, and I am even contemplating having the treatment done in other areas. The truth of the matter is, most times, our hair tends to grow in places we rather not have them grow, like our legs, underarms, chin, and so on. Many women and men find it very annoying and uncomfortable, having body hairs in all these places, so the fact that we no longer have to live with it, and keep spending a fortune waxing and threading so regularly, or hurting our skin with shaving sticks, thanks to the coming of laser, is mind-blowing.

The launch event for City Hair Removal’s new clinic was amazing as you can imagine. Bloggers were invited to have a tour of the new clinic, whilst enjoying some wine and nibbles, and chatting with the guest speaker – Syneron Candella, about the latest innovation on skin perfection, PicoWay, as used by Kim Kardashian and Beyonce! There were also free consultations for everyone, and an extra £20 to spend on any treatment booked on the night. It was a lovely event.
