Topping Energy Levels this Spring

Spring is finally upon us and the warmer is getting warmer. I have been busy getting myself and my household ready for the new season. We have been busy spring cleaning our home, getting our garden spring-ready and also staying on top of our health. The spring/summer months are usually very busy. So I have been paying attention to my health and well-being in time for the season.

I have been taking some supplements from Professional Supplement Specialists – Biocareto help me get ready for the new season. With all the hustle and bustle, I needed a helping hand. So I was happy to get my hands on these supplements below.

Spring Energy Supplements Image

This Magnesium Citrate Food Supplement is a potent supplement of magnesium that is easily absorbed and used by the body. It provides 100mg of elemental magnesium per capsule and is suitable for everyday use.

I have been taking both food supplements for weeks now and I feel amazing. My energy levels have gone up and I have been walking with a spring in my step.

If you are looking for ways to top your energy levels this spring, here are tips from Chris Newbold, Head of Clinical Nutrition at BioCare –

Avoid caffeine after 2pm

This is a tricky one for me but I working on it. I have noticed, I sleep better if I do not take any caffeinated drink after 2pm. Caffeine is great for increasing alertness, so starting the day with a cup of cappuccino may help sharpen your mind. But It can cause sleep problems if taken after 2pm.

Give yourself a breakfast boost

Having a good breakfast is the best way to feel alert in the mornings. It’s important to go for healthier options, such as porridge and fruit, an omelette or wholemeal toast. Avoid fatty, deep-fried foods such as fry-ups, as these take a while for your body to digest and will leave you with less energy.

Get some sleep

This is an obvious tip but making of us do not get the right amount of sleep needed to function properly. A bad night’s sleep can leave you feeling drained for days, so make sure you’re well rested every night to feel reenergised the next day.

Add some protein

High quality protein will fill you up and give you all-day energy. So ensure you add some protein into your daily diet. There are many different options to choose from such as salmon and eggs for breakfast, followed by tuna or chicken for lunch and dinner.

Don’t ditch the complex carbs

Complex carbs such as brown rice, sweet potatoes, chickpeas, and wheat fuels the body and mind to help you make it through the day. These complex carbs are turned into glucose (blood sugar) in the body and are used as energy.

Ditch the drink before bed

Now this is a great tip as I believe many are not aware of it. Alcohol can trick you into thinking that you will sleep better as it can often make you feel drowsy and can make it easier to fall asleep. However, this can also affect your energy levels the next day, as you’re more likely to wake up and feel terrible. Drinking alcohol can dehydrate the body, so reach for a glass of water between alcoholic drinks to ease the hangover symptoms the next day.

How are you topping up your energy levels this spring? Are you taking any food supplements this season?

What Hyperpigmentation Did to my Skin

I never knew a skincare issue like Hyperpigmentation existed until I became pregnant with my kids. I knew about the condition because I noticed the skin changes on pregnant women but I didn’t research it or give much thought to it. Hyperpigmentation descended upon me whilst pregnant about 5 years ago, and then I started to experience it real life.

At first, I thought it would all disappear after delivery, but then it didn’t. Then I thought it surely go away within a few months, once I was done with breast-feeding, but it didn’t. It reduced months after delivery but it did not completely go away until my twins were around 3 years old. So it literally took me over 3 years to get my skin tone back. Can you imagine that?

For those who have never experienced Hyperpigmentation, this skincare issue occurs when melanin is overproduced in certain spots on the skin. So for me, that was on my entire face and my neck. It occurs as a result of hormonal influences, and 90% of pregnant women experience it. Women with darker skin tones are more prone to hyperpigmentation.

So you have a clear picture of what I am on about, here are some pictures for you to compare.

As you can see in the before, during and after pictures, my skin experienced significant changes during and after pregnancy. I must confess, I found the changes hard to deal with. I expected my skin to bounce back weeks after childbirth but it didn’t and I didn’t like the way I looked.

At first, I tried to ignore it and carry on as normal, thinking it was one of those hormonal imbalances that would just correct itself but it didn’t. So I decided to take matters into my own hands.

How I Dealt with my Hyperpigmentation
Suncream

I started paying more attention to my skincare. I made sure I applied as much sunscreen as required, and stayed out of the sun.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating once a week with the right products helped. Getting rid of the dead skin helped to brightened up my facial skin.

 Skincare Products

I explored various skincare products and fell in love with quite a couple.  I recently reviewed this Vitamin C Ultra Brightening Serum by The Hero Project, and it is really good. I apply it every morning and it does the trick. Another great serum is the KOSE Sekkisei Emulsion. It also contains Vitamin C, and other amazing ingredients.

Food Supplements

Food supplements have also helped my skin greatly. I am a huge fan of Well Woman and BioCare Supplements. Nutrient deficiencies can contribute to poor skin health. Food Supplements that may help improve skin health and appearance include:

  • Antioxidants, including vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin E
  • Vitamins B3 and B5
  • Evening Primose Oil
  • Omega-3 fatty acids
  • Zinc

My skin is still not back to what it was 100% but it is getting there. If you suspect that you are dealing with hyper pigmentation, I would recommend you see a dermatologist for professional advise. Don’t be like me and leave it to go on for years.

Have you ever struggled with hyperpigmentation? How did you deal with it?

Food Supplements are Autumn/Winter Essentials

Autumn is in full swing and I can smell winter already! I tend to catch a cold and other cold-like symptoms, thanks to the bugs flying around this season. So I like to take extra care of myself once the chill is in the air, which is now. I still remember how badly I suffered in January when I caught  a flu for the first time. I won’t want that to ever happen again, so I have taken a flu jab and I plan to be on top of all my food supplements.

Some days ago, I received some supplements and I plan to make sure I take them all religiously. The problem I usually have is, I get excited about a new food supplement, take it for a few days/weeks, and then stop taking it. But I am hoping this won’t be the case with these here.
