How to Build a Capsule Wardrobe

Denim Look Image

I fell in love with Capsule Wardrobes while studying a Fashion Styling e-course at the London College of Style. I love mixing and matching various pieces together. It’s always so exciting to see how different clothing items fit together. I discovered some of my favourite outfits just by playing dress up. But what I love the most about putting outfits together is the fact that it constantly challenges me to discover new ways of pairing my pieces and still maintain my signature personal style. I like my outfits to reflect who I am, fun, alive and young at heart!

Since I love being creative with pieces and accessories, what better way to do this than by having a capsule wardrobe!

A capsule wardrobe is a small collection of clothes made up of essential but versatile items of clothing that can be paired in different ways to form different outfits. A capsule wardrobe is usually made of about 24-37 items of clothing. There’s really no fixed number of items but the trend seems to hover around those figures. I like to have a capsule wardrobe for each season. I sort out my wardrobe every season, storing pieces and shoes that are for other seasons, so I can have room for what I can wear. This helps me see every piece, every accessory, easily.

Aside from being able see all I have, optimizing my closet space, and being creative with my outfits, a capsule wardrobe helps me save time and money on clothes. I don’t have to spend time thinking of which clothes to wear from my large collection of fashionable pieces.
Loving the sound of it? Here are 3 steps to get you started.

1.    Empty your closet
Start by taking all your clothes and shoes out of your closet and laying them on your bed. This will give you a chance to take a good look at all the clothes you do have.

2.    Sort your clothes into piles
You’ll be working with 3 piles:
•    The ‘Love it’ Pile: In this pile, put in all the clothes you love and would wear any time, any day. These are the clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident. These are the ones that are worthy of going back into your closet.
•    The ‘No way’ Pile: In this pile, put in the clothes that you don’t want to wear again. These are the clothes that you can donate, give away to a friend or family member, or sell.
•    The ‘Maybe’ Pile: The rest of the clothes fall into this pile. They are usually the clothes that you may go back to, keep for sentimental reasons or are too expensive to let go of. You can keep these clothes in a box and stash them away in storage.

3.    Assess The Love it Pile
Here, you’re going to apply a simple rule called the “3 of each” rule. Depending on the season, pick 9 pairs of shoes (that is, 3 pairs of flats, 3 pairs of heels and 3 pairs of boots), 9 bottoms (that is, 3 pairs of jeans, 3 pairs of shorts and 3 pairs of skirts) and 9 tops (that is, 3 tops, 3 sweaters, 3 t-shirts, 3 button-up shirts, 3 tank tops or 3 vests). Next, you can have 3 gamble items where you can do a mix of jackets or dresses (eg. 2 jackets and 1 dress, or 2 dresses and 1 jacket). Keep the remaining items from your Love it pile in a box in a nearby storage, so that it’s close by yet out of sight to keep you from being tempted to go through it.

Your capsule wardrobe is ready! Maintain your capsule wardrobe then change it every season so you have a fresh wardrobe every 3 months and dress weather appropriate as well.

Product Review: Zara Brown Sugar Mint Leaves Body Mist

Zara Brown Sugar Mint Leave Body Mist Review

I am a huge fan of Body Mists. I find them so handy on days when I want to smell good but don’t want to spray my expensive perfumes. I have been using this Zara Brown Sugar Mint Leaves Body Mist for some months now. I got it on sale over Christmas, and I tend to use it on days when I plan to stay indoors or run errands around the house.

This is my first time using a Zara Body Mist. I remember the day I got this Body Mist vividly. It was Boxing Day. I was going through the sales rack looking for some items I could grab, and then my eyes fell on the Body Mists. The price was so good. I can’t remember exactly how much it was but it was less than a fiver.

Here are my thoughts:

PROS

  1. I love the minty fragrance. Brown Sugar Mint Leaves smells amazing.
  2. It is a light spray, perfect for the summer season.
  3. It is very affordable. I got it on sale for less than £5 for a 150ml bottle, and the original price was less than £10.
  4. I love the simple packaging.
  5. It is not long-lasting but it stays on longer than other body sprays/mists I have used. For the price, it is a good buy.

CONS

  1. This has been discontinued. Such a shame because I really like it. I would have loved to buy another bottle but I can find it anywhere.

Overall I do recommend this Zara Brown Sugar Mint Leave Body Mist. It is worth the little pennies, and I would buy it again if I find it again.

Are you a fan of Body Mists? Have you tried this Body Mist? What do you think? Sound off in the comment section below.

Thanks for reading and have a lovely day.

Tips for a Summer Road Trip

Fashion Trends Image

Summer is here, and many of us would have many road trips planned. I know we have a couple planned and I am really looking forward to them. We all need a break every now and again, and travelling by road, is a convenient and affordable way to travel, especially with kids.

Great road trips mean avoiding many of the problems that you can face on when motoring. After all the packing and planning, you won’t want to get stranded on the motorways, or be without something you need.

Here are some tips for you to remember when planning your summer road trip –

Invest In A Smart Sat Nav

Buy a smart sat nav. Not only will you be able to find the best route from your location on any given day, but it will help you to avoid the unnecessary traffic. Smart devices of all kinds can update you on exactly where the hold ups are in real-time, so you get information on delays caused by accidents, heavy road use, or planned road works.

Deal With Insurance Claims With a Camera

This tip is so important so take notes. Dashboard mounted cameras are nothing new but only few UK drivers use them regularly. Once fitted, you can forget about them and set them to record in a loop. In the event of an accident, or even a near miss, you will have the necessary evidence to show that you have been driving correctly at all times.

We were involved in an accident many years ago while driving to London. There was a sudden stop, and a car ran into us behind, and we ran into the car in front, and it went back and forth for some seconds. It was terrifying. The car was a wreck and we were ‘OK’ but in shock. It took us a while to get the necessary evidence together for our insurance claims, but if we had a dashboard camera, it would have been a lot easier.

Buy Some Performance Tyres

Long road trips can take it out of your tyres, especially if you choose to go down country lanes and tracks which might mean you feel more off-road during your road trip than on. Performance tyres may set you back more than the budget variety, but they tend to stand up better to more testing conditions and they can work out cheaper in the longer term because they are more durable. Ask a national tyre dealer, such as Point S tyres about special promotions for the best bargains from top tyre brands.

Stay Cool

Most modern cars have air conditioning, an essential for roads trips that are undertaken during summer, but what if yours breaks down or you don’t have it in the first place? Well, 12V air con units can be bought which help you to stay cool even if you need to keep your windows up to remain secure in slow-moving urban traffic. Just mount one on your dashboard and plug it into the cigar lighter adapter.

First Aid

Keep a first aid kit in the glove compartment in the case of an emergency. If you cannot get out of the car having one in the boot is not of much use, so ensure yours is easily available in the back seat or under the chairs should you need to make use of it.
