Lifestyle of a Secretive Billionaire

The lifestyle of billionaires always interest me. I find the way they live very fascinating. If I could be a billionaire or celebrity for a day, I would have the fun of my life for sure. Which is why Calvin Lo’s lifestyle intrigues me. Have you heard of him before?

All about the private rich

The rich folks always fascinate the general public, especially those that keep their lifestyle private.
The best in the business are some of the richest, most powerful men and women on the planet, yet billionaires are typically reserved when it comes to the media spotlight. They shy away from interviews and cameras, which means the general public never really know anything about them. This increases the mystery surrounding them.

Calvin Lo – The Secret Billionaire

In the finance world, few can boast the spending power of Hong Kong financier Calvin Lo, also known as 盧啟賢 in Asia, the CEO of R.E. Lee international, the largest life insurance broker in the world. His company regularly places around US$1 billion of premiums annually, making them the most successful life insurance broker in the world.  And while most of his rivals struggle to stay afloat, Lo is one of the few to always pay full freight. According to Forbes, Lo amassed an estimated personal fortune of around US$1.7 billion. Despite being supremely wealthy and successful, Lo manage to stay under the radar.

It was only when the Hong Kong press uncovered Lo’s visit to Champagne, France, earlier this year that the world start noticing him. It turns out that Lo is Asia’s biggest purchaser and collector of champagne. His most recent purchase was forking out US$250 million for his champagne collection.

How did Lo travel to France? In his Gulfstream G650 of course. With a list price of nearly US$65 million, you’ll have to wait for nearly four years to get one after you sign up. There are less than 20 of these extremely luxurious planes registered in Asia, and one of them is owned by Lo. Even though he does travel commercial (first class no less) every now and then, this billionaire prefers to enjoy his success in anonymity. His G650 allows him to fly without being recognised.

But even billionaires who consciously stay under the radar and take whatever measures to avoid the press will occasionally surface in the public eye.  In late 2017, Lo was seen dining intimately with Hong Kong actress, Bernice Liu, better known as 廖碧兒. Their romance developed and the public couldn’t get enough of it.  There is something exhilarating and romantic about a supremely wealthy CEO and a beautiful actress being together. It screams class and glamour. By all accounts, Lo and Liu make a perfect couple as they are both incredibly attractive, successful in their industry and shares the same love for wines.  All the makings of a fairytale love story coming to life.

The fascination of Lo is  because he is a billionaire who apprears to live a normal life just like most of us do (with varying degree of luxurious perks). He sure do enjoy the anonymity. That is why you’ve never heard of him. So no interviews. No fancy cars. No attention seeking habits, just a simple person with loads of money. And not to mention he also falls in love just like all of us.

The nouveau riche want the world to sit up and take notice. The ultra-rich have already transitioned through that moment and prefer discretion. Lo is even beyond discretion and lives his lifee in secrecy. His ability and desire to stay under the radar of the public is a signal of how really important and influential he is.

Should Photoshopped ‘Beauty’ be Banned?

What does beauty mean to you?

Before I dive right into this topic, quick disclaimer. I sometimes use Lightroom and Photoshop to edit my photos. I never alter my figure or features. All I do with these photo editing tools is to improve the lightening in my photos. So I play around with the exposure, contrast, vibrance and saturation tools in Lightroom. And I mainly use Photoshop to delete names, numbers and other personal information I don’t want showing in my photos. I never use these tools to alter my body and any of my features. Having said that, I do like playing around with filters for dun, especially those on Snapchat.

It’s getting increasingly difficult to tell what real beauty actually means. Women are getting carried away with the by-products of filters and photo editing apps that they’ve lost touch with the beauty that they already are. And by “beauty” I mean the real, unedited, no-filter kind of beauty.

You hardly see pictures on the internet or in your favourite glossy magazines that don’t go through some level of editing or the other. Editing your picture immediately after taking them has turned into second nature for many of us.

More women have had their self-esteem bruised when they see edited pictures of other women online. They no longer see themselves worthy because of the beauty that came through a filter. It sounds ridiculous when you think of it, but it has been causing a lot of damage to women and young girls today.

More women think that they have to go under the knife, get on extreme diets and buy expensive products just to attain that perfect flawless look that they see on social media. They rather put their lives in danger than to learn to love themselves for who they really are.

Fortunately a lot of women are being more conscious of the black hole Photoshop and other photo editing apps and filters are sucking us into. Such women saw that if they didn’t speak up, more women will be in danger. Consequently, they became advocates of banning photoshopped ‘beauty’.

Recognizing the true beauty behind the filter

The idea behind photo editing apps may have been a good one – to enhance one’s beauty. But the overdependence on those apps is creating a misconception of what real beauty is.

No one is born with the perfect skin, the perfect figure or the perfect complexion. And beauty is far beyond all those. You are beautiful for simply being you. You are a true beauty and you need to embrace it. The minute you recognize that you’re more beautiful than what any filter will make you, that’s when you’ll be able regain the self-esteem you lost to the pressure that comes from viewing airbrushed or edited photos.

So should photoshopped ‘beauty’ be banned?

I don’t believe it should be banned. I don’t think photo editing apps and filters will ever go away for good. But I think we should take these perfect photos we see on social media and on the pages of magazines with a pinch of salt. Don’t take them too seriously because 99.9% of the time, most of these photos have been seriously edited to look perfect.

Many women are being misled and now teenage girls are being affected. It’s disheartening that we are slowly losing our sense of true beauty – the one that is authentic and the one that embraces our imperfections. Instead, women are going through complex and oftentimes life threatening cosmetic procedures just to measure up with the mirage they see when they pop on a filter or have their photos airbrushed.

There’s nothing wrong with imperfection or blemishes. It shows that we are human. We need to learn to fall in love with ourselves and truly appreciate the awesome person that we are. That’s what should shine through every picture we upload. This is how you can become more self-confident and self-assured.

That’s why you need to take a stand and be you. You’re truly a beauty.

Outfit Post – Christmas Jumper

We now have 4 more sleeps to Christmas and we can’t wait for the big day to come. I still have somethings I need to get done this weekend in time for Christmas. I am hoping to sit back, relax and do almost nothing from the 24th. Watching the Christmas lights and listening to feel good Christmas songs would do me some good. How are you preparing for the 25th? Are you sorted with the shopping and gifts?

I have been making the most of the festive season by wearing my Christmas jumpers. I wore this blue Christmas jumper some days ago. It was one of the Christmas jumpers I got last year and I really like the design. It does not look to Christmassy, which is how I like my festive jumpers to look like. Plus it keeps me so warm and comfy. It is currently my favourite Christmas jumper in my wardrobe.

Christmas jumpers like many other jumpers, are super easy to style. All you need is a pair of leggings or skinny jeans, paired with boots, and you are good go. Jumpers and leggings are all I am wearing this season. They are the easiest to style, and with the chilly weather outside, they are the smartest pieces to wear. When it gets really cold, I swap the leggings or skinny jeans, for joggers. And that keeps me even warmer.
