How to support someone with mental health issues

*Collaborative post.

Mental health talk is so trendy these days, it makes me wonder if people even take it seriously. Or just talk about it to feel like part of the cool kids club. Many people are still struggling with mental health issues and have no one they can talk to. This is shocking considering how mental health is so hot a topic at the moment. But then again, I can see how difficult it can be to help someone having mental health issues. Many of us are truly helpless and have no idea how to reach someone who is already in a dark mental state.

How to support someone with mental health issues

Here are some ways you could help someone dealing with mental health issues –

Speak with them

The first thing to do is to let the person know you are available as a listening ear with no judgement. We all need someone to share our thoughts, hopes, and feelings with. This is even more important when you are struggling with mental health problems. So being available for a chat would be one way to help.

Don’t judge

Many people rather suffer in silence than be judged by others. This is one of the main reasons why mental health sufferers don’t speak to anyone about their issues. You need to remember to listen without any judgement in other to support someone with mental health issues.

Many judge themselves and others for various reasons like playing casino no deposit bonus games for example, but there should be no reason to judge.

Get them to get help

If you can convince a mental health sufferer to speak with a doctor and get some professional advice, you may have just saved a life. Encouraging whoever is suffering to get help is the best thing you can do. It pays to stay calm and be patient as this will help more than you being pushy and anxious.

Help in other ways

Apart from all the ways listed above, you can also help with general day-to-day activities for this person. So helping with childcare, school runs, cleaning, food shopping, company, and so on will help massively. Many people struggling with depression and anxiety may struggle with day-to-day living, so helping when you can help take the strain off them, and allow them to focus on getting better.

Look after yourself

While looking out for others, make sure you look after your own well-being as well. It is easy to neglect our mental health while dealing with others, so make sure to check in with yourself every now and again, to ensure you are doing great. You can look into taking supplements from somewhere like Blessed CBD to help improve your general well-being. CBD supplements come in the form of oils, capsules, gummies, and creams, among other forms, so you are sure to find something that suits you if this is something you are interested in.

You can’t pour from an empty cup

The older I become, the more I start to take good care of myself. The saying – you can’t pour from an empty cup is so true. If you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t care for others, which is why I now pay attention to my both my physical and my mental health. As a twin mum, it is so easy to put myself last every time. I still put myself last every now and again if I am being completely honest, but I am now conscious about the fact that I need to care for me in order to care for everyone else.

The easiest way to avoid burning out is to make sure your cup is filled. Pay attention to your well being and mental health. Don’t neglect yourself in the process of taking care of everyone else. Ensuring your cup stays filled, depending  on your lifestyle, can be tricky in this day and age with so many responsibilities and distractions. But this is not something you should push aside. Here are some quick tips you can implement today to help you pay more attention to you –

Stay active

It is 2019 and there are so many ways to stay active, so no excuses. You could go to a gym or bring the gym to your house thanks to YouTube. There are so many fitness videos on the platform to get you moving. All you need is time, a good internet connection and dedication.

Going for walks is another way to stay active. The school run helps me get out and about on my feet. Walks are a good way of staying active. They are also great for my mental health as they help me clear my head.

Spoil yourself

You should ensure you spoil yourself every now and again. Do something you really enjoy at least once a day/week. It doesn’t have to be anything pricey or complicated, it could be as simple as reading a book you enjoy or watching a great TV show in the evening when the rest of the house is asleep. It could also be booking a massage session for yourself or getting your house cleaned while you just relax and unwind. Whatever it is you do, the most important thing is to make sure the activity leaves you relaxed and refreshed.

Get rest

The benefits of quality sleep are too many to mention in this blog post, but many of us already know all about the healing powers of sleep. Our body repairs itself while we sleep, so ensuring we get a good night’s rest is another way to keeping our cup filled. I am very grumpy when I don’t sleep well, so I make sure I get a decent amount of sleep every night to feel like myself. I aim for 7/8 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night.

Say NO more often

I have never been a Yes person, but the older I have become, the more I now say NO. It is ok to say Yes if you want to and if you really mean it, but don’t feel obliged to do things just because someone is asking. If it is not convenient or it is too much of an ask, say NO. Say Yes to yourself more, yes to getting adequate rest, spoiling yourself, and just being there for yourself more. It is great for your well being and state of mind.

Follow your passions

Focus on yourself and follow your passions. You are of no use to anyone if you are unhappy or depressed. Your dreams and heart desires matter, so pay attention to them.

Healthy boundaries

There is power in having healthy boundaries because they create healthy relationship, that is best for everyone. While lack of boundaries create toxic  settings. Having healthy boundaries are great for your health and they help you stay mindful of you. I can go on and on about the importance of making sure you have your boundaries up when dealing with people. Healthy boundaries help you have great relationships with yourself and others.

Stay away from toxic relationships

Speaking of healthy boundaries, toxic people don’t like boundaries. They like to suck the life out of people, which is why it’s best to stay away from them. Once I read you and I see you are trouble, I stay very far away.

Remain positive

It is so easy to develop a negative mindset with all the issues and challenges we encounter. However, we must remain positive in other to attract positivity into our lives. I choose to remain positive no matter what life throws at me. It can be hard on some days but I quickly pick myself right up. That way I am happier and my cup remains full. After all, you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Mental health is more important than physical health

“Without a sound mind, there is no body” – Fashion and Style Police.

Mental health is something I have decided to blog about. I have written many articles about mental health, depression, and anxiety in the last few years. You can catch up on those posts in my lifestyle category. This topic is close to my heart because almost every day, I hear or read about someone dealing with mental health issues. I think there is a lot more to be said about it.

Our mental health is more important than our physical health. I remember having a conversation about this with a friend some time ago and she didn’t understand how our mind could be more important than our body but it is. Many of us take our mental health for granted. We pay attention to our physical health and everything else but pay no mind to our minds which is the most important part of us. Without a sound mind, there is no body, and many people struggle to understand that bit but it is fact. Having said that, our physical health is also very important. If we neglect to take care of our bodies, that could lead to many health issues that will eventually start affecting our mental health.

There are many ways to improve your physical health and I am sure you know how to replace certain habits or lifestyle choices with healthier options to improve overall health. One way is by replacing regular cigarettes with vape cartridges. Your next question now could be are delta 8 vape cartridges safe? And the answer is yes, if they are lab-tested, top quality, and properly extracted. You could also try Kona Kratom products which have great relaxing benefits, especially the red vein kratom, which is the most potent.

Spending time caring for our minds should be a priority. Doing more of what makes us happy should be our target. Focusing on everyone except ourselves (hello mums) would only drain us. Even if you struggle to switch off, it’s important to find something that works for you. Some people find avery albino mushrooms help to enhance mood and relax, whilst others find meditation or simply a nice hot chocolate works for them. We need to make out time every day for ourselves to protect our state of mind.

What is mental health?

Mental health or emotional health as some professionals like to call it is our overall psychological well-being. It includes the way we feel about ourselves, relationships, and our ability to manage our feelings and deal with difficulties. Mental health plays a major role in our ability to manage our physical health, which is why I think it is more important to have a healthy state of mind because that will help you achieve healthy physical health.

Paying attention to our physical health problems and neglecting our mental health issues will only cause more problems. Both are closely related and important, but I believe that priority should be given to our mental health. That being said, it is important to ensure we also stay on top of our physical health. One way to achieve this is by taking natural health supplements, like those by Nature Happiness, which can help provide your body with the nutrients it needs to stay well and function as normal.

Why the comparison?

Many of us tend to ignore our mental health. It is not something we can see so many of us, tend to neglect it until it becomes a major issue. This is why I am writing this post. Our mind needs to be catered to. We should remember self-care is not a luxury, it is essential. Spending time caring for our minds should be a priority. Doing more of what makes us happy should be our target. Focusing on everyone except ourselves (hello mums) would only drain us. We need to make out time every day for ourselves to protect our state of mind.

In conclusion

Both our mental health and physical health are important, and should not be taken for granted. I am not a Doctor, Counsellor or Therapist, but my advice is if you continue to feed your mind, your body will remain healthy. A healthy mind leads to a healthy body. So pay special attention to your mental health.
